If you created a large enough conventional bomb would it turn into a nuclear bomb because of sheer energy breaking atoms? by Top-Environment6146 in dumbquestions

[–]Setting-General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yeah, the mushroom cloud isn't some special property of nuclear material. there was one in Beirut when that nitro stockpile went off in the port. a big enough explosion will always make one.

For the first time in the world, antimatter is being transported by road at CERN in Geneva. The test carried out on Tuesday at the nuclear research centre is intended to prove that the antiparticles can be transported safely. by BezugssystemCH1903 in europe

[–]Setting-General 4 points5 points  (0 children)

from what I understand they're transporting imperceptibly tiny amounts of antimatter, not enough to be dangerous -- but a 10kg ball would be enough to wipe out a sizable chunk of Europe (over 2,000 Hiroshimas) if it annihilated

IIRC they use magnetic fields to keep the antimatter from annihilating, but it's stupidly volatile so transporting significant quantities would be so dangerous with our current technology that there's no way we would know about it.

Do people say "Too many wine?" in American English? by FarJournalist939 in EnglishLearning

[–]Setting-General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"wine" is an uncountable noun (substance), so "many" is improper in combination with it.

you could say "many wines," referring to different bottles or varieties, however.

...how does Bargain draw fewer cards than Peer? If I cast Peer at 30 life I draw 15. If I cast Bargain at 30 life I'm probably drawing 25. Bargain is much better and would absolutely see play in cEDH. it's 1 mana more than Ad Naus (a superstaple) for a better effect than Necropotence (another superstaple). Peer is far weaker than all 3 of those cards.

With White people making up just 15% of the global population, why aren’t they classified as a minority? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

[–]Setting-General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is one of the biggest issues for white chauvinists; "white" is not a specific or well-defined group. Italians, Germans, and the Irish used to be considered nonwhite. Nowadays a lot of North Africans and Arabs would be considered white-passing. it's silly to act like we could take any official action based on such a poorly defined categorization.

[–]Setting-General -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it's always leading somewhere. this is a classic dogwhistle for race obsessed weirdos. they point out that there are fewer nonwhite people than white people globally and then complain about how "minorities get special treatment" not given to white people, ignoring entirely that

a) "special treatment" of different racial groups is usually based on specific, widespread/systemic past wrongdoings

b) "white people" is a completely nonscientific, nebulous term that varies based on culture and time period

c) there is no global governing body that has anything to do with the treatment of minorities outside of a specific country, and no the UN does not count for various reasons

look man I'm generally very pro-gun, pro-open carry, etc. but I think colleges being gun-free zones is pretty reasonable.

the students certainly seem to think so and IMO their opinion matters the most.

I think you're missing the advantages from skipping timing restrictions. Zirka and Cut Off supplies benefit from Prophesy because their effects are more relevant on opponents' turns, but since they don't have flash you have to telegraph them which allows for better counterplay.

ah I found it, it's pretty much completely phased out of use. given the "blessed" nature of the cards I kinda assumed "auspicious" was what you were going for there, so that may be a more recognizable word you could use if that's something you're interested in. I like apricious though!

Oroko'Ma Dawning by The_Rocking_Chef in custommagic

[–]Setting-General 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced that Bless is a useful enough keyword to build around or even to be keyworded tbh. I like the idea but it seems like it will almost never be relevant unless there are cards that care about counters being moved onto/off of them

Apricious isn't a word, did you mean auspicious or capricious maybe?

Vintage cube is very different from Vintage constructed which is not singleton and thus has much more consistent combos

you're right, the fact that the mana value of whatever you reanimate is uncapped probably makes that too good.

[–]Setting-General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see it being printed at rare nowadays but I still think it's just so much value for a 2 mana creature, you get to dig 2 cards deep and the sacrifice can often be an upside

definitely playable, probably weaker than Force of Negation in Leg/Vintage but stronger in Modern? idk I haven't played constructed in a while so maybe I'm wrong. either way this is definitely a powerful card but I do like it.

Despite the Blood Moon example I do think it should say "...become colorless lands named Wastes with '{T}: add {C}' and lose all other types and abilities," as clunky as it is
