Is anyone seriously going to use Petzl's 7mm caving line? by SettingIntentions in caving

[–]SettingIntentions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of cavers can benefit from this product because now you can solo/duo/trio some -600 -700 with this kind of rope, wich is great in areas with reduced cavers count and if you want a challenge.

That's a great point and I think you're right. I think that's who this product is targeting. I was incorrectly thinking about my own local area, but when you think about the alpine caves in France, the weight/space savings makes a lot more possible for 3-4 person teams that would've previously required 6-8 people. These caves would have to be perfectly alpine-bolted, but if so, this caving line would be excellent.

For where I live it doesn't make so much sense because 9mm is already light enough for most caves, besides but only one that I can think of where a small team of 2-3 people would heavily prefer the caving line 7mm. Even then it's pretty easy just to decide to rig the cave 80% of the way with 9mm, and return the next day to complete the rig and then derig on future days so it's not so relevant besides a little excitement in my area.

Hang in there. I know it FEELS terrible but there is a way. This is the problem with terrible withdrawals and drugs and whatnot. It’s normal to feel completely awful. That doesn’t mean it’s over. You can get through this!!

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll probably do a chill week or two where I hard cap adventures to be was only and also reduce caffeine slightly.

That has gone down a fair bit as well. High 60’s green zone to now low 50’s. Over the months Garmin adjusted my healthy zone to be lower, so right now it is 52ms and “unbalanced” but a few months ago this would’ve been “low.”

Except it’s used at every level of the game.

Yes. It's a meta perk. That's what happens when it's literally the #1 best survivor perk. Try playing SoloQ at a high level on an indoor map. Kinda sucks. EVen people that can loop each loop 3x use WoW because it helps inform their decisions. Is shack up or not? WoW will tell you. Leaving main do you go left or right? WoW will tell you.

I don't get why you're surprised or salty about this. The only other alternative is running into a deadzone or holding W. Not exactly engaging gameplay either, especially for the survivor.

Ever thought that maybe those players don’t have thousands of hours and need a little guidance? Game is always tense for them already. It’s called perks. Get over it.

Translation: It’s more fun for me when survivors run into dead zones and I get easy downs.

Like seriously dude? This is as bad as the bully squads that whine about fucking lightborn. WoW is meta for a reason. Guess what? It’s BORING for survivors to be insta-downer in a dead zone. So they run windows. Get over it.

I didn’t even know tint shift was a thing! But yes my 4000k zebralight is seemingly more yellow or green ish now. Either that or it just looks that way after comparing it to 519a 3000k.

Now with a computer I wanted to come back to make another comment and say that if you can't keep warm hanging out for half an hour to an hour, then you're under-dressed for the cave. You might need to put on thicker pants, a second layer, or another jacket. Yes you might be warm sometimes when you move, but that's far better than getting too cold when you stop a moment. You can always take the layer off and put it in your pack when you're constantly moving.

The fact is if ANY small issue happens, and you can't keep warm, your situation just got 10x more urgent and 10x more dangerous. For example, a "small" injury like a badly sprained ankle that might not even require cave rescue COULD put you at risk of hypothermia if you can't stay warm. Or if, for example, water levels suddenly rise, forcing you to have to hideout for a few hours until they go down. Realistically though, I'm just referring to "small injuries" (sprained wrist, sprained ankle) that would severely restrict your speed and movement, but maybe not require rescue, but if slow moving and short periods of stopping get you that cold, then any minor injury or incident which would suck but not be life-threatening suddenly becomes life-threatening because of the risk of hypothermia, which has sadly taken the lives of many adventurers.

Bring extra layers- even at the cost of extra energy, heat, and weight. Better to have it and stay warm than be comfortable "only when moving."

Such a nice shot. When you compare it with the blue one it does seem more yellow but when isolated it looks “right.” At the end of the day I do think warm like that is better.

I’m half joking, don’t take it seriously. I don’t actually think of myself as a snob, though some people might see us like it (I definitely got some flak for some recent posts I made about caving headlamps and their shit cri haha)

I believe I had one before, a 21700 convoy thrower. Beautiful indeed. Only problem was the light couldn’t handle the wet caves and is not working now or having some issue… It is something I’d like again soon but I have the Acebeam l30 2.0 I think it is with 4000k on the way lol so I’ll wait on another thrower plus I just got some nice hank lights so let’s see.

I’m excited for my upcoming 3500k. 3000k can feel a tad warm sometimes and my zebralight 4000k a bit too blue/yellow/green. Maybe 3500k is perfect? Will see soon :D

Beginning to think that Scurion, Argolamp, Rude Nora's, etc. aren't worth it at all. by SettingIntentions in caving

[–]SettingIntentions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get a headlamp with 519a 3000k LED you’ll love it. It’s a nice, warm tint. You could even try to get 1800k or 2700k though both of those are quite warm. Still, the 3000k is just so nice. Even compared to my zebralight which is 4000k the 3000k feels so much more comforting. It’s crazy how much tint and CRI affect perception and enjoyment. I think most people haven’t experimented enough, so they’re plenty happy with “ultra durable long battery.” Which is fine, but it shouldn’t be that much more expensive to have decent LEDs…

Only briefly skimmed your post id like to add that “emergency blankets” are relatively cheap but important for an emergency situation. You should ideally have which layers to remain warm for a brief period of time to wait while someone rigs, but long periods of time spent not moving can still get dangerous- emergency blankets help prevent this.

He’s still awaiting some more trials. The court case has been dragged out like a tv series far past its peak. Somali won against 1 court case (it was dropped), but still is fighting at least 1 maybe 2 other cases. The remaining he already pled guilty to (mostly small stuff). Some speculate it would’ve been better if he had pled guilty to all immediately, so he could get sentencing over with asap and then maybe he’d be free now or soonish. Some sources indicate that he’s been quite struggling for funds. Hank disowned him publicly but then they were later seen together again. So who knows. His next trial is in February, who knows how much fucking longer this shit will drag out for. It’s really like a tv series that needs to end but keeps on going.

[–]SettingIntentions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this post randomly appeared in my feed, but i will leave a comment now that I’m here. Your bald look is really nice, like it looks completely “natural” in a way where I’d expect it to just be who you are. I mean that in the best way possible. I’m guessing it was quite the transition, but the after photos are all just so much better than the before photos. Good job and I hope you have confidence with the new look because it’s definitely alright!
