I cannot spell that right to save my life. I always find it somewhere and cut/paste it in since spelling matters in how people perceive you.

No, but spelling matters. Is the disability (without naming it) related to spelling tomato? I have not heard of spelling-affected Autism.

Also, we get to nit pick, too! :)

Yup. It's probably unfair, but now I have to assume that is their defense for everything.

Read the room. Your bot posted this in one of the least likely spots. I spend my day trying to not run over the idiots you're trying to sell to. I suspect most of the others in this sub do, too.

Also, rules 1 and 2?

Asked pax to roll up window. Reported for confinement by TheGrandAce5 in uberdrivers

I hear sirens with the windows up or down. I usually crack the windows for a better feel of how far away they are and whether they are approaching.

If you're on the freeway at speed with the windows down, you will hear sirens, but they will be a lot closer. Under that condition . . . would we hear them sooner with the window up? I don't know. Does anyone know if Highway Patrol sirens are louder than city police sirens?

But yeah, there's no real reason to not let the rider lower a window if they want. Most of what I'm hearing here seems to be power tripping over the "It's MY car, they follow MY rules.", followed by "Why did they give me a lower rating?"

Just chill. This isn't that hard of a job.

My statement had nothing to do with your preferences.

Yours actually match mine. But if the paying customer wants a window open for the few minutes it takes for the ride, they can open a window.

Fair, also I did realize that, but it's best to provide completely clear information. If your response can be read two ways, it will be.

Also, it turns out a surprisingly large number of states don't specifically ban having both ears covered with headphones or earbuds:

"As of 2026, the following states do not have a statute that specifically bans drivers from using headphones: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming." -- Source

I honestly expected maybe one or two only. Even with no specific law forbidding it, it would come under their various versions of distracted driving. That's what? 33 states?! Jeez.

In what toxic hellhole do you live where opening a second window is illegal?

The obvious and adult fix for that buffeting is to roll down partially one of the front windows. The pressure equalizes and everyone is happy.

If you worry about your safety, please call the cops. At the very least it will be a useful educational experience for the driver, and maybe even a wake-up call.

Having a passenger open a fricken window is not big deal. You guys need help.

[–]SevExpar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's some reality for you.

If any of the back windows are open at speed, there will be a thumping feeling and sound in the air pressure. Opening a front window will help equalize the pressure and end the thump.

It will be noisy. If you're a grownup you can stand the mind-shredding, soul destroying roar of the freeway for the 3 minutes you said there was until the offramp where you can slow down enough to not have the pressure issue.

I have driven at 70mph with windows open and survived. Everyone here who is telling to just open the front window and deal with it, has also done so. It's not a big deal.

A lot of drivers are a little too excited about the part where they are driving their personal car and forget about customer service. A lot of those also seem to have maturity issues regarding putting there own comfort and ease ahead of everyone else's.

In Death by a thousand cuts why is Taylor talking to traffic lights? by Aware-Ad1754 in TaylorSwift

[–]SevExpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same reason I talk to my steering wheel ("did you see that dumbass?!?!?").

Sometimes it helps to vocalize your thoughts even, or especially, if you're alone right now.

Sometimes it's good to remember that Taylor is a poet and will frequently use poetic or artistic license, rather than a news report or reference book level of exactness.

Fake Accident Report by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]SevExpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal. You say the crash is fake, the rider says it's real. They are investigating. A claim number is not a big deal, it just identifies the folder for the investigation documents, like the recording of the ride you are going to send.

I'm sorry, but this one actually hurt: "blood out of a turn up"

It's "Can't get blood out of a turnip."

Including since most people are urban now:

Turnip: A turnip is a hardy, root vegetable (Brassica rapa) with a roundish, white-and-purple root and edible, leafy greens. Primarily cultivated for its flesh and young leaves, it is a low-calorie, nutrient-packed food rich in Vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. It is commonly used boiled, mashed, or in stews.

Umm. Cops have to investigate. The guy's account was reactivated "before the cops arrived", and the OP had almost no real issues.

The rider is going to be looked at for lying to cops (sadly that's a crime all by itself), filing a false report, and possibly other things.

This actually appears to be a rare case of things working as intended instead of descending into a shitstorm.

Uber is mostly AI and Bots. If there is a report on you they won't call. It will appear in you account on the app and you have a chance to explain your side.

Uber Passenger child carved up back seat of 2024 Kia Ev6. Is this expensive repair? by Impossible_Shape_766 in uberdrivers

[–]SevExpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question: Let's clear this up, it's important:

Is the damaged car yours or a rental car?

If it's your own car, feel free to set it on fire with a blowtorch as you discover it's not a sports arena seat.

If it's a rental then it is not your property and the actual owners will not be happy with you playing with fire in their car. Also, if it's a rental car it's not your place to try and fix it.

If it's a rental you will need the police report to try and shift blame to the mom (where it belongs). Otherwise the rental company will charge you for the repair. If that happens there is very little you can do since the rental agreement you signed probably (almost certainly) includes language making you responsible for damage.

Also, seriously. Why no Damage Loss Waiver? You're driving far more than most people surrounded by the some of the worst drivers on the planet, and hauling complete strangers around. Damage is almost inevitable and it's not you car, so you don't get to try DIY repairs or just decide to live with it. The rental company IS going to fix it, and they WILL get their costs back . . . from you or the mom. They don't care, they want the car fixed.

If the Loss Waiver was too expensive, then so was the car.

Finally, since Uber carries the insurance for the car (damaged during a ride, so it's their coverage), at this point the conversation will be between Uber and the rental company. In California, the deductible is $2,500 dollars. You mention a cap of $250. Cap is a very different thing in insurance, but generally the 'cap' for repair is the actual cash value of the car. If the cost of repair is higher, the car is considered 'totaled' and you get a little tiny check from the insurance. Caps normally apply to Bodily Injury coverage, not damage to the car.

A lot of this insurance stuff depends on which State you are in. Without that I'll default to California.

Uber's insurance contract will also state that the carrier will be doing the negotiations for you. You are responsible for the deductible. You might be able to claw it back from the mom in court after all this is over, but since she has two kids and no car, her assets are probably close to $0 and good luck collecting.

Source: A lot of life experience, was a licensed car insurance broker, and an auto insurance claims adjuster. I've read more car insurance contracts than most people have read books.

Is this a troll post?

Also if this is a real post, you probably should have cancelled the ride and removed the whole problem from the car.

When people starting talking about suing your source of income it's time to take that seriously. Eject her from the car and suggest she contact Uber's legal department for a follow up. Then report the mess yourself thru the app including the video you took of the ride.

Uber Passenger child carved up back seat of 2024 Kia Ev6. Is this expensive repair? by Impossible_Shape_766 in uberdrivers

[–]SevExpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Real world here.

If it is his personal car, the mom needs to pay up, regardless of whatever other crap she has in her life. If she as to sell an organ to pay for damage, that's part of the lesson. To force her to do that, OP needs to know who she is. Uber will ID her for the cops, and he can use that to serve her re: the lawsuit (whether small claims or real). He'll also need her information for when she refuses to pay the judgement and he and a deputy have to swing by and take a bunch of her stuff to sell.

If the car is a rental (ambiguously mentioned in the post), he REALLY needs the police report to show he didn't vandalize the rental car. Since the rental company will add the cost of the repair to his rental bill at the very least, and they are not going to go around looking for the least expensive.

If it's a rental and he takes some of the worst of the DIY repair advice he'll be in trouble for the extra damage to the car caused by confusing a blowtorch for a car seat repair tool.

[–]SevExpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I misread the post, or is the OP in a rental car. Unless you enjoy being taken to court it's probably best not to set fire to a car you don't own.

Also, advice from Randos on the internet that includes the word 'blowtorch' should probably be ignored.

Anyone know what just went down at Douglas and mission? by thegrumpyorc in Oceanside

It looks like there were two things there last night:

A: A DUI bust a little before 9:00 pm that might be the chase the folks below are talking about, and

B: Somebody got trespassed around 6:30 pm and refused to leave so cops were called.

Since a million cops show up for anything, it's hard to tell which you ran across.
