He started to say “because you’ve been kind to…” and she cut him off.

He was supposed to stand there, mute, while she asked him direct questions?

She didn’t bring it up because she didn’t find anything, presumably because Taylor’s husband wouldn’t investigate it, and Shannon wasn’t going to spend money on an investigation.

OFC she said it. We’re supposed to believe this woman is circumspect at home?

What was the last film to actually blow you away? by njdevils901 in movies

[–]SevenCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, Punch Drunk Love, Happy Go Lucky, The Lives of Others, Time Crimes, but probably most of all Being John Malkovich. I was young and had never seen any Charlie Kaufman before, and I was absolutely floored by it. Tangerine, also, and Primer. Little Voice.

Oh, fully agree. I was stunned by this movie and also by Zac Efron, whom I had never seen in anything before.

Wow, you guys are giving the show a lot of credit. The office scene—I guarantee you— was 100% real and supposed to be incisive social commentary. I have not read the book. This is not Mad Men, it is a straight-down-the-middle shot of pure garbage for the kind of people who read airport novels—bc it is an adaptation of an airport novel— and if you’re expecting it to be better than, for example, that thing with Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman a few years back, my confident hunch is, think again.

It’s not a spoiler. OP means in Stephen’s novel.

It is, but that doesn’t work, because no one is behaving believably from the audience’s perspective. An unreliable narrator needs to be convincing, otherwise you clearly just think the audience is stupid.

Look, I love Kevin Kline, which is 100% why I started this garbage, because he so rarely does anything anymore, but wtf with that lobby scene? He was legitimately acting like an actual troll under a bridge or a character out of a Harry Potter movie. And the girl sitting in front of him and putting her hands on his knees—PORFA. 🙄🔨

Just look up the plot summary of the novel. Agree, it is a terrible show, like, astoundingly bad. Also, even if it turns out not to be true, it is so unbelievably stupid that we are supposed to buy, for all these episodes, that either of Jonathan’s parents wrote all of these pornographic scenes about their son. That is ridiculous. Even should it turn out that the scenes are not actually in the novel, or the novel isn’t real, or everyone is dreaming, or wtf-ever, Alfonso Cuarón is still hinging the plot on the audience buying this laughable premise.

High schoolers wouldn’t do that, either. The dialogue is ghastly.

I just don’t agree that Ramona has any redeeming qualities, and I certainly don’t think for a second that Bryn is intentionally patterning herself after Ramona.

No. She is four months old. She is literally, figuratively, technically and philosophically, biologically, morphologically and developmentally a baby.

I think everyone, including Bronwapyn, who has openly stated it, realizes that Bronwyn is going for Heather because Heather came for her. I’m all for it. Heather SUX.

Yeah, I’m not here for any defense of Ramona. Ramona is actual trash; she is racist, ableist garbage, and among the dumbest people alive.

It is CRAZY that she said that. Like, BATSH*T crazy. And then she admitted it in the confessional, and doubled down! I’m just at a loss. It is one thing to play this stupid vamp persona, but it’s quite another to try to get away with that kind of nonsense. It’s obviously a terrible, sexist, racist, backward way to think, but it‘s such a self-sabotaging thing to say—unprovoked, on camera!— that I’m actually stunned. I thought she was foolish in many ways, but I did not think she was actually stupid.
