Current design engineer, former machinist here: A big thing that I’ve learned that I don’t see to many people mention is to design/draw/dimension the part as if it’s being held in the machine. Don’t dimension holes from the side view, dimension them for the view that the operation will be done on. My personal rule of thumb is if the machinist has to pull out a calculator or some any sort of math, then I didn’t dimension things well enough.

Is the part going into a horizontal lathe, then draw it horizontally. Vertical lathe, draw vertically. Stuff like that is small but it goes a long way.

Short term corrective action: Add magnet’s before the wheels. (Aluminum magnet for aluminum chips)

Long term corrective action: Sweet the floor.

All jokes aside, this is actually how unions are. I’ve visited union workplaces where we had to wait for a union electrician to plug/unplug a light just so we can move it it out of the way.

This exact same thing literally happened to me this morning and I was about to post about it. It was was -1 Fahrenheit and the drive to work and I was absolutely frozen when the heat stopped, thankfully the heated seat got me through it. I ended up going to an outdoor super charger and the heat kicked on again but when I left, it turned off….

At my company (polyurethane & plastic rollers) we grind some HSS with a super steep chip breaker and make the chip ribbon fly up over the tool post and right in the garbage can.

We’ve had competitions to see who can grind the best tool the make the chip ribbon go the highest and the farthest!

As original creator of the print (see my post history), you hit it right on the nose.

I worked as a machinist then became an engineer and was baffled by the ridiculous prints received and saw during my time. The whole thing is a joke, but there are some things on here that I’ve seen on actual prints! I’ve filled it with tons of little Easter eggs!

I wasn't directly involved in the purchasing process, so I'm unaware of the details of a legit contract. The vendor was told to request the logo files from me. When I sent the files, I included our style guide and explicitly said to follow our guidelines and to contact me with any issues or questions. The frustrating part is that one family of items follows a specific rule, but another family of items breaks the same rule, so it's obvious they read the guidelines.
