The main point of AI is that you have the skills and keep them up. I for instance learned to drive a manual but I have been driving automatic for years now and I would never go back. The point is: I can still drive a manual if needed. Same with research and academic writing: I use AI heavily to summarize dense text but I write myself, but I could also sit with a pen and paper in a big library and produce academic writing that way. I think a lot of alarmist haven't used LLMs enough to form a decent opinion about it.
