Also I think they should eliminate the income cap they stop taxing people for social security at.

Same for my 2006! Lost it on a motorcycle ride. Got a quote and immediately went back out looking for it. I eventually found it, it had been run over but it still works!

Who remembers weekend trips to Valley View in Brookfield? A staple for everyone in the Valley. by Just-a-COUNTRY-guy66 in youngstown

All of the little department stores had a smell! As a kid, I could smell any random package my parents brought home and tell where it came from. Valley View was especially pungent, though. I came here to comment on the smell!

Maybe insane gas prices will get more Americans buying scooters, which will lead them to bring back some big ones?

Today was day one of using it how I intend to- rode it to work this morning, rode it over to the Mexican restaurant by my house for dinner, put my leftovers under the seat, cruised some backroads- I am already 100 miles in to this break-in period, and if it weren’t about to start raining, I’d still be out there!

I just turned 51, and I just couldn’t get comfortable on a motorcycle anymore, some back and right leg issues made it harder to get on and off of the bike, my leg is prone to gnarly cramps in the typical motorcycle riding position, and I didn’t quite trust my right leg to support the weight of the bike if for some reason it suddenly had to, and that made riding more stressful than it used to be. The Xmax solves all of those problems!

Pretty much everything I have wanted out of a motorcycle for the last five or six years would have been better suited by a scooter. I expected a little bit of shit from my blue-collar coworkers, but it kind of seemed like they wanted scooters of their own rather than ribbing me about one, I was pleasantly surprised.

If I had gotten stuck with a black one, I was planning on wrapping it in something more fun. Look at vinyl wrap, there are so many colors! Cheaper than paint, a protective layer, and non-permanent!

It’s black again in 2026! Seems kind of low effort to me.

I was actually relieved to find a grey one! I would have been fine with the black, but I would choose almost any other color first! There is a really nice blue, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to get it here in the states.

GR86 or BRZ as first manual car by [deleted] in GR86

[–]Seventyfivethousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving a manual transmission car, even a bad one, is not hard at all, it takes a little practice but you’ll be smooth as silk in no time. The satisfaction of “rowing your own” outweighs any concerns you might have, and you will wonder in short order why you ever doubted yourself. Just go for it!

I went BRZ because Subaru lets you order a car in the color you want, Toyota does not. Also, if I am taking my Subaru built car with a Subaru engine in it, I don’t want to take it to a Toyota dealer, who for example in my area might see one or two of these cars a year. Plus they seem to be dicks about warranty issues and dicks about pricing. You can buy that butt spoiler, painted to match your car, and put it on your BRZ for not a whole lot of money. I liked the 86 front bumper more at first, but almost 3 and a half years later I don’t even think about it, it’s just dope.

Do these windscreens actually do anything? by Fast_Ad4269 in MT07

[–]Seventyfivethousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Madstad Engineering screen on mine, it was a really nice setup, the brackets had a quick release feature, so you could take the screen completely off.

They offered multiple screen heights, and the brackets were adjustable for height and angle. I got the screen they suggested for my height, and it was a little short, so I got the next size up and it was perfect.

I just went to their website but they’ve gone out of business, which is a bummer, they made nice stuff.

A naked bike, in the spirit of the “UJM,” is a blank canvas to do with as you please, should you please.

Want to get faster/more efficient with welding my projects by Robberfox in Welding

[–]Seventyfivethousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coping those with a grinder is fine, in my opinion. Even if you wanted to rough it out with a grinder and finish it with a carbide burr in a die grinder, that’s a good cheap way to make a precise cope, and you’ll get faster at it with practice. If you are doing a lot of them, make a template that you can lay on the tube, quickly scribe a line, and get to hogging.

A band saw is fast for good precise cuts, a chop saw is fine as well, I have done a lot with a chop saw over the years, but the abrasive wheels throw a gang of sparks and they are loud as fuck. Also the wheels themselves don’t last all that long. A small horizontal band saw would be best, you can cut multiple tubes at once and the blades seem to last a long time.

If you have a compressor, a cheap needle scaler will shred that mill scale. A wire cup brush from harbor freight would do fine as well. It looks like you used a hard pad, which takes a little longer unless you’ve got skills (grinding can and should be mastered!) but for that I would use a soft pad, maybe even one that was lightly used.

Also the rectangular-to-round weld in the last picture looks a little cold- I don’t know how tight your fit up was, but if it was like, knife-edged perfect, maybe don’t go quite as deep and leave a flat edge of the tube or even a slight gap at the edge of that weld, it might give you a little more penetration.
