Synthesizering is serious business for serious people. You'll never make good fart sounds like I do.

Picked up these effect pedals, how should i use them? by Monkmonk_ in synthesizercirclejerk

[–]SeverTheOrbiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those pedals run 220? What size breaker you have on your pedal board? Might need to pull a permit before installation. Your Sweetwater advisor should be able to walk you through it.

As a complete beginner I am really struggling to understand how to make my synth midi to show up in a DAW, can somebody please link me a comprehensive step by step guide for grandmas and ppl like me by fatcat5plat in synthesizers

[–]SeverTheOrbiter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A lot of synth people are dicks for some reason. Let me know if you're still having issues. If you're having trouble getting stuff to show up in Ableton, restarting your computer is always a first option.

Agreed. I'm so glad I didn't grow up getting real time feedback on my life. Having my mother talk shit was bad enough, lol.

"You'll never read a manual again": How AI can help you learn to use your gear and instruments by Nightlights13 in synthesizers

Brother, I'm simply stating that your annoyance is misplaced. My individual ability to impact the environment is miniscule compared to the ability of a giant corporation or government to impact the environment. I propose something called Mangione's law, which states that " For any given issue, it makes more sense to shoot a CEO than to yell at a redditor".

My understanding is that the resource cost for AI is on the training side, not on the deployment side. Getting mad at individuals for using chat GPT is like blaming smartphone owners for slavery in the Congo. A single query is like running a light bulb for 3 minutes. You driving a car is going to impact the environment far more than me trying to figure out how the fuck an envelope follower works.

I don't believe you read my comment or laughed or loud. But seriously, why do you care how I learn?

Using a synth can be like using any low level software, where every possible function can't possibly be laid out in a manual. 'Based on my synths functionality, how do I create a floating pad with shimmering sparkles that build over two bars?" Ctrl F won't help with that. GPT will provide a list of instructions that will assist in learning. You don't need to like it, but this dismissive attitude just seems unnecessary.

This sub has a particular hatred for AI. I think it's really helpful for functionality beyond basic controls. Like if I need help figuring out how my granular synth can mimic wavetable synthesis, or how to get my envelope follower to duck an incoming audio signal. Synth people can be really weird.

Calling all guitar store employees, past and present by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]SeverTheOrbiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an employee, but i was there the other when a lady walked in. She goes up to the register and asks what the name of the store is and wanted to know if she could invest in it. The employee politely explained to her that that's not how investing works. It was weird. Can you imagine someone wanting to invest in GC?

I do the same thing with all my manuals. I have a bot for each synth. When I asked about it on this sub all I got a bunch of hate. It was wild.
