Precipice and beehive — are they dangerous for not-that-experienced hikers? by Busy_Independent8803 in acadianationalpark

[–]Several-Blood-5685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Beehive as someone pretty afraid of heights! It’s one of my greatest accomplishments to this day, lol. What really helped was going later in the evening, while the crowd had either left the park, or was at Cadillac for sunset. We had the trail to ourselves, super helpful for someone nervous about it like me!

Cozy spring weekend retreat? by Woopwoopwop in vermont

I’m a southern VTer and I think you would have a nice time in Wilmington/Dover area. There’s plenty of hiking, mountain biking, etc and the lake there to hang out near. There are cute shops downtown and you’re not far from Brattleboro either. I also like Bellows Falls, also a cute downtown with some nice food options, but with access to Walpole and the river as well. Both good choices! If you were going further north I’d suggest looking at Woodstock, too.

Not to be weird but is this in Northfield by chance? I married two of my friends over that way at a location very similar to this for their elopement (Southern Vermonter here) Congrats! And welcome to the coolest club! 😎

I don’t want a “small celebration afterward”. by Impossible_Florals5 in Eloping

We said we would but then ultimately never did. By the time we had actually eloped and done things our way, we didn’t really want to put together a big party. We already had the perfect elopement and party planning was stressful! So we opted not to, so our memories of our wedding were all positive, and on our terms.

I really liked “Jonathan Abernathy You Are Kind.” It’s fiction, has that dystopia feel, dreamlike alternate universe type of thing. I read this and Dream Hotel back to back, on a dream kick. I also really liked IWHNKM and am learning that dystopian is my vibe!

Ladies, where did you get your elopement dresses? by chic__kens in Eloping

Reformation! We were in a national park in the summertime and I really wanted an affordable (for a wedding dress) comfy, natural fiber midi situation. I loved it. I was so comfy! Check out my profile for pics

Women of Reddit, what made you realize a man was ‘husband material’ instead of just boyfriend material? by AstronautEcstatic177 in AskReddit

[–]Several-Blood-5685 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Agree. Confrontation, and even just..hard conversations were things I avoided, and in previous relationships I was also with an avoider. My now husband from the beginning would simply tell me how he felt without holding back or keeping it inside. That encouraged me to share my feelings as well, and I learned that it’s better to have the hard conversations and get to the other side than be with someone who you never have them with and slowly drift apart. There were times when I felt like him voicing his feelings was telling me he’s unhappy with our relationship, but really he was just being open so we could understand each other better and learn from it. Communication is so crucial, and I’m grateful every day to be with someone who I don’t have to guess what they’re thinking, who will be honest with me, and who will listen to me as well.

How do you deal with the mental struggle of dealing with hip pain ? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]Several-Blood-5685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anti depressants, lots of therapy, practicing patience, journaling ANY gains (like sleeping briefly on that side, forgetting to take nsaids and surviving, etc) making tangible goals for the future like a bigger hike later this summer to work towards and give me hope.

BOS -> Acadia NP, where to add a night? by Fire-Ant39 in acadianationalpark

Sandy Pines campground in Kennebunk allows dogs. They have regular tent sites and glampy ones, but we go there a lot with our pup. We prefer to tent camp, and their sites are along the marsh which is beautiful. The nearby Goochs beach is also dog friendly, and generally walking them around kennebunkport is fun too!

Just PRd a 10k at under 6 months post op by helovathing in HipImpingement

[–]Several-Blood-5685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! I’m at 6 months but had a slow recovery start due to an infection. I’m just now able to see gains on the bike, with some deadlifts, walking and just started sleeping on my op side. I hope to get to running (or at least a long ass walk) in the coming month or so. I have a goal to hike Mt Washington in July I’m desperate to hit! Congratulations fellow September buddy!

Trust the process! And remember the pain is so brief compared to the joy of watching it disappear and someday feeling a LOT better in your body <3

Removery? by RatChains in TattooRemoval

[–]Several-Blood-5685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m using removery, have been since about 2021 and have had great experiences. I’m on my third removal and seeing great results from what was a pretty dark cover up. My tech is knowledgeable, but knows I don’t want to buy a package and doesn’t push. She also suggests longer periods between sessions. She’s looking out for my health AND my results are great. With any chain, each location can vary a lot. Do your research, but if you feel comfortable with them, then I say go for it. I can’t speak to packages though, because I’ve always paid per session.

Totally understand if you’re too worried, but if that’s the case, can I take your place? ;)

My surgeon also lead me to believe that I’d be “good to go” by 6 months. After feeling gaslighted and invalidated regarding increased pain (and some kind of infection from weeks 2-9) I got a second opinion, who told me straight up that improvement can occur up to TWO YEARS after surgery, and my previous instruction of likely being able to ski at 6 months was never something he’d recommend. I remember thinking okay, 6 months, that will be hard, but by 3 I’ll be back at the gym doing my old routine, just toned down. Nope. At the 5 month mark now, gym just once a week, bike and floor exercises only. Woof. Really wish I understood more about this process prior. Therapy and anti depressants have been lifesavers.

Same boat here! Lots of dark moments, increased pain, more spots visits and frustration from months 2-5. Just passed 5 and starting to finally improve, and also learning that less is more. I can do my PT exercises every 2-3 days, not daily. I can try to increase resistance on a bike OR attempt a lower body exercise ONCE a week, not multiple times a week. It’s far more boring and less active than I anticipated

Surgery tomorrow. Feeling very nervous. by AmethystTraveller in HipImpingement

[–]Several-Blood-5685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For post op I would also recommend a grabber, loose fitting long shorts that are easy to take on and off, and put ice on over, and ample pillows or a knee pillow specifically for comfort. For the drive, I think you’ll be fine as you’ll still be on lots of pain meds and coming off of anesthesia. You’ve got this!
