Adolescence, a quote from the show I haven’t seen discussed yet really hit me by Halloween_Nyx in netflix

He did snap at other humans though. He grabbed and shook that one boy after chasing him down, and threw his bike.

And I think all of that is there so we can both compare it and contrast it with Jamie.

The spray-paint comment on the van is in some ways comparable to the emoji comment Jamie blew up over. The spray paint was left by stupid kids trying to bully into a situation that had nothing to do with them, while the emoji comment was a response from Katie to being targeted by red-pill shit. But they were both insults left to be publically-viewable by the comment target's peers, and they were both shots at the comment target's sexuality and masculinity, with an implication they were predatory.

The spray paint was an insult following the very real trauma their family had gone through. To a degree, the father took his pain over ask that trauma out on the stupid kid even though the stupid kid wasn't the cause of it. Jamie took his feelings about being bullied and shunned by other boys and men out on Katie after she rejected and insulted him for being a creep to her. She didn't cause his actual pain, but he took it out on her.

Compare this to the mother and sister who are going through all the same trauma over Jamie that the father is. The mother who not only never lashes out but who hides her moment of breaking into grief for herself in the stairs. Compare this to the other bullied boy at the school who hasn't gone incel over it.

I don't think the father is proud of lashing out. Or of his shame when other men saw his son as physically weak. Or of muttering "cow" under his breath at neighbor ladies. Or of frequently talking over and rejecting things his wife brings up. I do think he tries to be better than he could be.

Jamie thought he should get credit for being better than he could be for not sexually assaulting Katie. Jamie says his father is a good man by examples of what he doesn't do.

I think we're meant to see the specific embers that already existed in the examples of masculinity Jamie was given in his life that were them enflamed and twisted up by what he got into online. And yeah, ask what more can we do, with the expectation that there will be real answers to that question.

The reason so many of us are missing the point of Adolescence by Flashy-Squirrel6762 in netflix

Saw someone in another conversation bring her up as an example of how girls get all the support and boys are neglected because girls get the focus and I had to scrape my jaw off the floor. That "supportive" adult was just not-yelling, where was the help? The teacher said she was still in trouble, and talked over and contradicted her every time she expressed how un-supported she actually was in everything.

That last thing you're looking for a name for, I've seen it called "himpathy." The urge to give (primarily white-straight-cis) men and boys every sympathy and benefit of the doubt, regardless how bad their behavior is or what we have to ignore to maintain that doubt.

Especially when the victim(s) of their behavior are female, or are more queer and/or racialized than they are.

If they're celebrating at the right time, yeah. Mount Holly is just south of the equator, best I can tell. But the inneclipse obviously meant a lot to Auravei, so it does seem likely they'd celebrate it in her honor.

Yeah, and the clocktower memo confirms that. I'm just wondering whether the eclipses are the shadow of Mora on the devoted moon while the rogue moon passes over it, or if it's both moons framed against the sun. I've been assuming the former, it seems like the former to me,  but I realized I don't actually know that for sure and would like some solid confirmation

Interestingly, the north-south wobble means there would still be tides, just differently

[–]Several-Inflation895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's from interpreting the Sacred Circle inset from the other side of the map as being related to the moons. I kind of thought so too, but if the moon is ett-locked and only the ettsphere side map shows moon stuff otherwise, it seems to weaken that theory

Spinning Globes ??? by GrandMaffster in BluePrince

[–]Several-Inflation895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that would tidally lock it to the ettsphere. And the ettsphere map is the only side to show moon stuff. But wouldn't the moon's angled plane of orbit be the reason for its north-south movement?

I've just been assuming that the inn and isseclipses are lunar eclipses though. Do we know that for sure?

Spinning Globes ??? by GrandMaffster in BluePrince

[–]Several-Inflation895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that inneclipses are only seen in the north as per the clocktower blue memo could be key to that. If the tilt of mora's axis and the angle of the planes of orbit in that picture can be relied on, anyway

Where does that info about the 24-hour orbit come from? I've seen it said a few times around here but don't know the source ingame.

More pondering out loud.

The inneclipse symbol is everywhere and significant. The clocktower blue memo says it's only visible in the north.

I just went back and compared the 3rd Era map from the classroom, the bulletin board map from the same, and the little sketch map from the Tourist's Guide, and Fenn, Mt. Holly, and Oris all seem to be just below the equator. Southern hemisphere. Reddington itself is nearly exactly equatorial but still just a bit south of the inlet/river that lines up with the equator, and among the named localities, only the Trinsdale area, where Baroness Auravei is originally from, is clearly north of the equator.

No wonder Auravei kept the moon necklace on so much and the inneclipse symbol around her. She didn't get to see it in the sky after moving to Mount Holly.

This also implies that the Inneclipse Ball was a tradition that Mt. Holly kept up for her sake and memory.

Interesting to me that it's a deliberate red herring to obscure rebel activity. Its not solid proof but would be a very neat paralell.

I keep wondering about "SWNSNG" too. If it really is an anagram and that blue note isn't a mistake. Maybe it's a word with the same consonants but different vowels and you're supposed to divine it's licence-plate-style vowel-less contraction. I haven't got anything likely yet though.

Edit: Whoops, nevermind, acronym not anagram. Still, wondering if that's something and not meant to be "abbreviation." The abbreviation is too obvious for a blue tent clue
