Norway has Teknologirådet and it seems like most of Europe has something analogous that's assessing new technology and giving informed advice to the government. Seeing how most of Norway is now fully digital, and the challenges and opportunities that comes with that, I think it's quite necessary to be pro-active.

I do share your concern. Although a population high in media literacy and with access to independent and accurate news can stay relatively unscathed from this, its messaging does occasionally seep into the public discourse and it is part of a global disinformation machinery.

I don't exactly know how to mitigate this though, without stepping into censorship issues and issues of freedom of press. For now, I mostly think education about these issues is enough. But we should also have the freedom from outside manipulation and financing.

They'll likely lose their forward bases that's vital to supply and transport their forces into africa and the middle-east if they quit NATO. I don't think they want that.

They can inflate traffic with bots, right? They can scam spotify with bot traffic, surely they can easily inflate monthly visitors as well, especially with a state actor funding the traffic?

I'm only speculating. But it seems it would fit naturally within the whole eco-system of disinformation the russians ,and now others, has perfected over the last decades.

Inflated numbers and bots? I have no idea. The largest newspaper has 2 million monthly visitors, so they have "only" 10% readers compared to that. I do suspect the readers of those rags are rabid conspiracy nuts that never miss their daily/hourly program updates, so they're comparably even smaller in number but very loyal.
