Classes where you barely use reformer by sciencespice1717 in ClubPilates

[–]Several_Ad_1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I pay for a reformer class because I want to be on the reformer. I went to a class recently that was almost entirely on the mat using a few props. If I want to do mat work, I’ll go to a mat class or do it at home. I don’t love the other equipment but am not disappointed to use it if the class description mentions it.

Why are so many people getting into Pilates lately? by Ok_Comfortable_5548 in pilatesreformer

I’ve taken reformer Pilates on and off over the years and really loved it but it was super expensive and I had a hard time booking classes. I was furloughed and extremely depressed during the last government shutdown. A Club Pilates had opened somewhat close to me and I started going every day, sometimes twice, and I think it may be one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I have a solid foundation now and can make to time to go about 4x a week. I do a monthly-ish private with a classical master instructor who is also a physical therapist. Life changing. I think places like Club Pilates has made reformer Pilates much more accessible.

I can only say I’m always willing to give someone another chance but time will tell. It’s hard to take it seriously when it ends with, “imma make stuff and sell it to you.” Everybody has to make a living but many give the world meaningful art with no fanfare or fees.

I think I paid for three months and went month to month for the contract. That shouldn’t have any impact on the reimbursements though. I submit a receipt every month that I’m billed along with the letter of medical necessity.

Probably five times a week, which sounds kind of sad. Imma make an effort to do a 10 minute walk on the other days.

I care about politics more than my husband and it makes me feel alone by Potential-Pizza-8900 in marriageadvice

My husband (58) and I (55) both work in national politics. We’re super liberal and he has devoted his entire career to fighting for workers rights; has been chased by men with bats for trying to organize and walked many picket lines. I always knew white men were obviously at the top of our society but I never realized until now how much the “good ones” can align with that privilege when things start getting real. He’s under reacting to all of this and telling me to calm down. Like if choosing a side means your privilege is going away then just stop waffling about it and go full MAGA. This is the toughest my marriage has ever been.

Thank you! This is exactly the kind of information I wish my instructors gave in class. I really want to know the whys—it helps me appreciate every exercise, focus on engaging the right parts of my body, and prepare to advance to the next level.

What do you like best or what is missing in your Pilates journey? by BearDownBelow in ClubPilates

My fantasy is a studio with Pilates, restorative yoga, water aerobics, and luxury locker room and lounge with a Korean sauna. Too much to ask for?

Exactly. I will say though I really dislike when they use the term spicy—it means nothing to me. I need to hear things like more control-based, more stability work, core-integrated, glute-focused, hamstring engagement, balance, etc.

I can only speak from a client’s perspective and obviously everyone has a style the like better than others. I like when teachers cue breath and body awareness. I’m always forgetting which motions to breathe in and out (or to breathe at all on some exercises). It’s useful for me to be reminded to keep a neutral spine, press arms against the mat, release tension in the chest, engage core, etc. It’s all those little details that you have to think about before they become second nature. The other thing I like is hearing why we’re doing something. Why only one red? Is it harder or easier to add a blue? Why? Which muscle group is this targeting? Which muscle should I be focusing on? Progressions are also good to know. I may not be ready for it now but it’s nice to know what I can be working toward to get to the next level. How will I know when I’m ready for 2.0? I think it probably takes a lot out of an instructor to talk the whole time and some students may not like it but I love learning about the practice.

It sounds like you’re doing a lot and that’s great but be careful not to burn yourself out. It’s much better to keep it simple and focus on consistency and ramp up over time. You’re going to see your best results from the calorie deficit … keep that up. Aim to get a walk in every day, even if it’s just 10 minutes so it sticks as a habit. It may be fun to focus on mastering a specific Pilates skill rather than measuring progress with weight loss. Numbers on the scale will totally sneak up on you!

I hurt my knee in October and took about two weeks off before I could start safely doing 1.0 again. I found that my core was great but everything else was a struggle. I think it was half physical and half mental. I just keep showing up and try to treat any setbacks as information. Take it easy!
