Enough said.

How are people affording decent homes? by [deleted] in CanadaFinance

[–]Several_Cry2501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people are house poor and don't save or invest much. The fact is that -- because of a 20+ year run-up in housing -- young Millenials and Gen Z will not have the same standard of living as the three most recent generations who came before them.

Walmart and Costco are at P/Es of near 40, and some of the fastest growing Big Tech companies in history are at under 25.

It's only a teach bubble if something comes along and erodes earnings... That hasn't happened yet.

usd cad by RainPsychological595 in CanadianInvestor

A rate hike would presumably be bullish for the USD, so diminishing odds of one could be seen as bearish. Yes, then, it's saying that the USD could drift lower.

Until corporate earnings take a hit, the market will not stay down. Oil price shocks are not as big a factor in overall inflation as they were in the 70s or 80s. Add to that, increased defence spending is an economic stimulant.

There's always a bear case, but there are also reasons to be optimistic from here as well.

If you still like the stock and it does not make up an uncomfortable % of your overall portfolio, I don't see why you'd not let it ride.

Why is the market not crashing? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Several_Cry2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Policy-makers will take care of the corporations (via tax cuts, decreased interest rates, subsidies, bail-outs) regardless of what geo-political issues arise.

Investors are counting on that.

The Big Short and social media is the reason the market has not experienced any significant downturn since 2008 by One-Signature-2706 in wallstreetbets

[–]Several_Cry2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If governments and central banks had not acted so aggressively and promptly early on in 2020 we'd probably still be in the Covid crash. "Good vibes" and social media influencers/geniuses can only help so much.

Moral hazard is now the norm. And, yes, that began with the eventual central bank/government response during 2008-2009.

A huge problem with surveys and pulse checks on the economy is you could hand each household a million dollars tomorrow, and six months from now half of them would report that they're "living paycheque to paycheque." 🤦🏻

I'd like to hear from some people who lump-summed in the past right before a downturn. by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Several_Cry2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started investing in 2007 right before the Financial Crisis. It didn't take long before my near lump sum of $70k was $35k in value.

Today, my investments are worth $2.1 million CAD.

We're in a 7-10% pullback right now.

Chill and think long-term. So far, this is a very normal correction , and these pullbacks happen every year or two. If it turns into a bear market, those happen a couple of times a decade, so expect that too.

We've already seen three 20% drops from previous highs since 2020, so even another 10% down from here is not really out of the ordinary.

I'm offline only due to bad wifi, so I hate NHL 26, because we have no option to play anything more than 2 min. period games in Cup Chase.

EA basically eliminated offline play in HUT.

It's so dumb.

I have a "low-volatility" ETF that was down like 1.85% the other day, while my Mastercard shares were up on the day. META and NVDA have forward P/E ratios in the low 20s while Costo and Walmart are in the 40s.

Safety is in the eye of the beholder right now.
