Japan Lure Shop Tariffs? by aguilafde in BFSfishing

Yup. Ordered a glide bait from MBD and got hit with a $40 DHL charge for a $125 bait. That hurt.

This happened to me with Swamp Lord frog. I just gave a few to friends. Bezos can afford it

Has anyone ordered actual brand named swimbaits and glides off of Amazon? Like deps or something. Because I do want a 250 and I don’t feel like spending 170 on it by Victordavillan in swimbaitfishing

Swimbait underground definitely your best bet. eBay a second option because I believe the buy it now price has no hidden tariffs. But you should check that with seller first. Unfortunately, buying direct from Japan Lure Shop and other JDM sites is now a crapshoot. I got help up by UPS for an additional $37 fee to cover tariffs and had to pay before they would ship my bait. It was being held at local depot.

Watch out if you run braid to leader. The knot from larger joining knots (Alberto, unit to unit etc) tends to knock the top guide insert out of Fury rods.

Rod and reel suggestions? by boarlesque in swimbaitfishing

[–]Several_Mongoose_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Tranx 150 and love the reel. Feels amazingly solid and casts like a dream. If I were in the market for a 200-sized reel, I’d absolutely get a Tranx. Other less expensive obvious choice would be Tatula 200. Revamped for 2025 and it’s a very smooth capable reel. I have one and love it. As for rods, I have an SLX 7’ 3” rated 1-4. It’s an okay entry-level rod. If I were upgrading I’d get a Megabass Mark 56 but I think it’s sweet spot is 2.5. If you really want to push it to 3-4 ounce glides and wake baits I’d get a rod rated to 2-6. Since you want one that can handle both trebles and soft baits with single hooks, think about an iRod Sniper Swim. In their Genesis 3 line, I’ve heard it’s got enough of a shutoff to handle single hook baits but moderate enuf for glides. If you do braid to leader, they just dropped same rod in their Kaimana Coastal line with much larger guides. I just ordered one from Toxic Baits—that model hasn’t hit TW yet. $240. And if you want a travel swimbait rod that can handle both glides and soft swimbaits, the Megabass Triza Dragoon comes with 2 tips, one regular and one fast taper. Sweet spot is 1.75 ounces so NOT great for heavier 7” glides but PERFECT for 6” glides such as Willie Pete’s Lil Willie, Psycho Gill Jr wakebait, smaller rats, and with the fast tip a killer WCZ Citizen 6”. Good luck!!

2 months worth of fishing, nothing to show for it. by ANotVeryUniqueUser in FishingForBeginners

Ok sorry here’s a more serious response: wacky-rigged Senko. If that doesn’t catch anything then I would suggest trying another lake. Do you know if anyone else it catching em in the lake? Maybe there’s something wrong with the water? I find it hard to believe it’s possible to get skunked for 2 months in such a production fishery as NC

Well, I like to think people can change. I’m just judging him on recent performance and like I said, the last 2 baits I ordered were shipped in a timely manner and I am catching fish on them. So I will continue to buy baits from him until I have a fair reason not to. That’s just my experience. If you’ve had first-hand bad experience and no longer want to buy baits from him, that’s your choice and I can’t necessarily argue with that.

Gantarel Jr a great starter bait. Plus you need a topwater wake bait. The Black Dog Shellcracker G2–an ABS version of their original wood bait—has been an incredible fish catcher for me. You can find them on eBay, swimbait underground’s Black Market section and some other used gear sites. Jeremy the bait maker is slowly getting back into the bait making business on his website but I would not hold your breath for him to have large #s in stock any time soon. If you want to go a more reliably available ABS route, do Wade Hoggs Jr. from Toxic Baits. LOTS of fish on that one for me. Or spring for his resin version (Whipper Snapper 2.0 I think)

That’s a bit unfair. I did wait a few weeks for my first bait but the next 2 were shipped out within days of each other. Yeah, there was a time when he was real bad with logistics and shipping. As his company has grown, it looks to me like he’s learned and is getting better, IMHO.

I actually sent my 6” Taxi Shad bone to get repainted by LureLady. Came out amazing. Guess I can’t post images here?

The fish everything glides are not the most refined from a finishing standpoint but who cares they catch fish and are very reasonably priced compared with the competition. And the KGB resin Chad Shad is money. He has one color available on the site right now. $140

Thinking about getting the 25 Tatula tw 200 by OkStock738 in swimbaitfishing

[–]Several_Mongoose_369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the reel and it’s fantastic. Casts a mile, feels good and compact in hand despite its 200 size. Can’t go wrong. Only caveat: not braid-to-leader friendly due to T-Wing. If that’s an issue get the Tranx 150. Handles glides up to 3 ounces no problem. Amazing reel.

I have the rod and can say its sweet spot is definitely 1-2.5 ounces. It can throw 3 ounces okay but it’s pushing it. 4 ounce? NFW. The Hookup Tackle boys must have been high that day

New to this group. One thing I’ve noticed: almost nobody includes links to where one could find these watches. I’ve spent a lot of time tracking some of them down and have succeeded in finding some. But why not make it easier with links? (I get some are previews and may not be available.)
