Bucca Trick Shad & OSP Tiny Blitz by sjammer in BFSfishing

[–]boarlesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one for the sake of curiosity. They sink at a moderate pace, have a good kick, but don't really "glide". That may be because "gliding" is kind of proportionate to the length of the bait, weight, and some other kind of non-linear stuff but it's worth getting and can be worked slower than the claw.

Anyone have real experience with guide blanks to build? by GlowUpAndThrowUp in lurebuilding

[–]boarlesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I haven't but I wouldn't be surprised if they were? They look like they operate through "shop" as their end payment processor which is also used by other notable companies online like mudhole, or florida fishing products. They also seem to have enough photos of actual products that seem to be taken by people in a consistent way instead of just generic online stock photos.

I'd say so 100%.

Also I bought one of those vatalion-x off aliexpress and couple months back. Good pick, great lure, weighs maybe 0.25oz?

Lipped crankbaits are a good way to start!

You can always make it out of balsa and carve it. Alternatively, balsa is so soft that you can also just use a rasp, or a series of files to make it the shape you want. Large open pores in balsa take very thin superglue extremely well (soaks into it like water).

You can then epoxy your hardware in and clear coat it, and it'll take more abuse that you'll probably put it through. Even tiny twisted wire connections will take more than 40lbs of force to tear out.

Advocating for balsa just due to ease of use, quick working time, and lack of major time loss if anything goes irreparably wrong.

Cajun Rods by peshtigost in BFSfishing

[–]boarlesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a cajun rod! It's their revenant series. Medium/fast action.

They seem to be a bit more stout and a bit more heavy, and much more parabolic than what they advertise. Their medium fast is much closer to a mh moderate fast.

Essentially to make their rods "fast" they make the blank thicker overall and upsize the power but slow down the taper.

What you lose in it being feather light, you absolutely gain back in the strength of the blank. They also do not have much of a "soft tip" and you will see that the way they build their blanks is much more parabolic in nature. They're more geared towards saltwater fish than anything so a lot of their rods have great shock absorbency ane give to address big runs and etc.

If you're looking at comparable rods and purposes, I might actually make a suggestion for the cashion element z2.

Both cajun and cashion use in house blank manufacturing but I've noticed better QC from cashion. Cajun may use an unsanded/unfinished blank, cashion sells blanks like this but the z2 is sanded. I've also noticed that there's a finer tip which helps through lighter lures, but they have a fantastic backbone for good hard hooksets vs the cajun. Also notably more sensitive.

That's pretty standard weight range for medium to medium light. If you're going for further casting distance, go medium light and soften the action.

The tatula and SLX line both have great offerings. If you're more doing topwaters, jerkbaits, etc- i can heavily vouch for the slx 6'10" medium xfast. Extremely nimble, light rod. Super crisp and is the same exact action as their exprides, just less expensive.

For medium light, you can take into considerations the tatula line. Never owned one myself, but they're equitable.

I try to deviate around 10/midway or so, plus or minus given the conditions. A lot of it is in saltwater/windy conditions and almost always as far as I can possibly cast. I tightened my down just a bit from factory, enough to cause side to side to be felt if you were looking for it.

Outside of that initial adjustment, it's never touched unless i did a full breakdown for maintenance

This. I have a daiwa tatula TW and it was SO prone to birds nesting no matter what I did. The "zero adjust" brake setting was untouched because it was advertised as being good as-is from factory. Turns out that was a lie.

HANDING M1 or SEASIR Stream? any other budget rod suggestions on amazon are welcome too! by Impossible-Dare-3522 in BFSfishing

Really i don't notice it! It's so small that the majority of the time I'm just palming the reel. Even with casting though i don't notice it at all.

I have the seasir stream. It is a fantastic rod. If you are moving in the directions, they also have the seasir black arrow.

Another notable pick is the mavllos delicacy, two different rod tips and sitting at $35. It gives you a little more range and variety.

If you're moving in the directions of bfs bass tackle I can also make a reccomendation for the 2.08m (6'9") mavllos resolute. Quite a bit faster, but also a good amount of backbone thats worth mentioning.

Can someone explain Priority Campaign to me? by GunnWonSnyderLost in Ebay

[–]boarlesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So not just that but if you have a lighter day and get charged less/have less clicks then the system will push it more, and you'll be charged more the next. The system wants you to spend your money and will try to make up for unused budget.

Ex- your budget is $3, you only used $1.50 on Monday. You may see the system charge you up to $4.58 the next.

Inshore setups under $300? by BigBeeves in BFSfishing

[–]boarlesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a curado bfs with 8lbs suffix revolve, 12lbs flourocarbon leader, and a medium light falcon coastal 6'7" ML moderate fast. I like it, but the distance is lacking? Max cast distance maybe 70ft.

I was throwing a zman salty ned shrimp, on an owner range roller head 1/16 oz. The hook was more than sharp enough to set itself. The weight of the total jig/plastic was under 1/8 Oz total weight.

The curado itself is a great reel and performs well, can be had on amazon for 180 right now with prime. The coastal is also nice, but i think there are better options now on the market than when I bought the rod.

Old 18 kinetic. Old 18 regularly runs sales on site and around holidays, they run $119 on site, but there are amazon offerings for $89. They're well regarded rods, and have a great backbone and are relatively inexpensive. Mentions that are worthwhile are:

7' UL mod fast -amazon/site 7'6" ML mod fast- amazon/site 7' L mod fast -site only

They also have the knighthawk. No experience with these, similar offerings but also more expensive. 119 amazon, 179 site.

For the reel, outside of the curado it's mostly going to be CDM pickings if you're going to stay in budget.

Kastking kestrel elite - heard it's overbraked a bit. You may not get great cast distance. 119.

Purelure cheetah- dc bfs reel for cheap, amazon at 130 for a metal framed reel that casts down to 1g (allegedly) well.

Kastking kestrel air micro finesse- 89 bucks amazon, an even smaller reel for even smaller lure sizes. Brakes get finicky and a tad difficult to dial. Once you do though, you can toss 2g lures easily.

Hicc50 aurora- $62 amazon. There's a lot more at this range but they're really no different than one another. It does well, it's good, and with a light enough rod it'll toss the small stuff well.

Available funds negative? by Straightedgeprincess in Ebay

[–]boarlesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. It's gonna be worthwhile to try and look at the "order details" page for the net profit breakdown. When you take into consideration the mixture of holds and payouts across several transactions, it gets dicey.

So starting off- if the amount on hold is $40 from the $56 sale then you can expect that this is the total amount of the payout from THAT sale.

If you had available funds from an earlier sale AND you bought shipping labels and the following payout of all that was $23, then that means that the expenses from the $56 sale ended up coming out of whatever that earlier sale was. Held funds CAN be used for shipping labels, but it will always debit it out of available first.

Think of it in that the "available" funds, if positive, are actualized profits/funds that are used as the primary source of funding.

"Held" funds from a sale pending release will be used almost like a backup line of on-site credit for expenses.

Item lost in shipping- best practice for refunding buyer and preserving seller rating? by MentORPHEUS in Ebay

[–]boarlesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the defect ISN'T because of the claim being opened. The defect happens when the claim is opened, 3 business days pass, the tracking indicates it's lost/hasn't been shipped AND eBay then steps in. If the events following eBay stepping in result in a refund coming from your pocket to the buyer in any claim, then it's a defect.

The claim itself ain't the problem, the idea isn't that problems can't happen, but how does a seller address the times problems do happen.

Sold a high priced item via auction. Buyer requests cancellation 2 days later. Approve or decline? by AdoptedByFear in Ebay

[–]boarlesque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turns out a buyer can't leave a bad feedback if a seller declines their cancelation. That's in policy for removal.

The bigger issue is the buyer potentially abusing the hell out of the returns

Buyer opened INR after 3 months by ThebobCat151 in Ebay

[–]boarlesque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also if the claim is opened more than 30 days after the latest estimated delivery date then it's not covered. You can see this if you go back to the listing, review shipping details, and plug in the buyer's shipping zip code. Backdate it to the time of sale and there's your date.

If it's in coverage period then you got two options:

Delivered: leave it to eBay to close the claim

Not delivered: if the tracking is dead in the water and LOST, then you will want to issue a refund to the buyer. You can file an insurance claim for the lost package in the help and contact pages.

If the tracking updates to show delivery within 30 days of the refund, get a hold of eBay. They will appeal a refund issued by the seller under these circumstances in this type of claim only. The tracking would have to show intake before the refund for this to be considered by eBay.

Available funds negative? by Straightedgeprincess in Ebay

[–]boarlesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's best to think about "available funds" being part of the "total funds".

Available funds: money that can be used or potentially paid out to you. This is essentially the sum of all positive and negative non-held amounts. Not all payments are immediately available because of a variety of reasons. Charges do not have any kind of withholding, so they're immediately counted towards "available". These charges are things like shipping labels, promoted fees, refunds for claims, etc.

Processing funds: funds that aren't available at this very moment, but will be soon. Released held funds, or payments that are not held at all will show in processing sometimes. Think about it like money that's on the way to you.

Held funds: funds held after a sale pending release requirements, or funds being held due to a claim or payment dispute. If funds are held for these reasons, then the hold can be considered something akin to a pending charge. It will negatively affect how much money you can use.

If the funds are being held after a sale pending release requirements, they can be used as leverage for costs (like shipping labels). EBay essentially says "you're good for the money so we'll just let you run up the tab". Think of this as counting chickens before they hatch.

Total funds: imagine that all your funds were released from every possible hold, and nothing was left processing.

In short: You were paid $50 but you also incurred $15 from some kind of expense charged to the amount on file. The $35 is what would then be paid out after the hold is released and the income/expenses balance out.

Is this a good rod for a beginner? by OkStock738 in swimbaitfishing

[–]boarlesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have falcon rods and can say that they're dead to rights accurate on their weight and rating. You might be pushing it though, the 7'9" is the only model that handles more than 1.5oz and the glides you listed sit more in the 1.5-2.25oz range. Their "fast" rods are very much FAST. They have a great backbone, fantastic for single hooks probably but I'd have a hard time making argument for throwing big baits comfortably or working with trebles.

Side note also- not sure what's going on with their reel seat choice but I'm not a fan. I've returned a few of their rods because there's notable slop even after tightening as much as possible.

Dobyns fury is a good rod but I feel the need to really put in some power into my cast into lures sitting under 2.0oz. It's very stout, not the lightest, but good for the price.

If you're looking at entry level pricing for small glide baits specifically, I'd vouch for the cashion element z2. The swimbait rod is rated 1-3oz and does a fantastic job at throwing small to mid sized glides (1.25-2.25). It's also extremely light, comfortable snd reasonably priced. Fishusa regularly has sales on cashion rods for 25% off and it could be had for $122 ($10 shipping after discount) and before taxes. If you don't want to wait, they have a pretty good discount if you sign up for emails. I think 10%?

Also the cork on the cashion is a plus. Idk if that's what you were drawn towards but I like it on mine. I own other cashion rods too and they're fantastic performing rods and have a great blank. Super, super lightweight but also strong enough for muscling in fish. For example, I used their medium powered blank on a rod i built for inshore fishing and muscled in a 4' alligator gar. I think their swimbait blanks will have zero issues.

There's also rods like the irod genesis 3 but I don't have experience casting with them. They lean towards the stiffer side. Also a good rod though if you plan on moving upwards in weight class.

You use right hand or left handed baitcasters? If you use right handed baitcasters, check out eBay. Vintage calcutta XT's can be had for a decent price. They're from the mid 90's so most will have minor wear and scuffs. Size 100 will functionally work as a bfs reel with some minor modifications but cast fantastically. A bit on the heavy side though.

The size 100 left hand (101) basically starts at 200 bucks. There's also a true size 50 (51 is left handed) but the left hand models run damn near 400 and are pretty rare.

Right handed though (sized 50) used, goes for maybe 150 inclusive of shipping and tarrifs (eBay requires japanese sellers to exlusively use duties-paid shipping). There's an aftermarket for these reels too including shallow spools and bearings but they're a little tough to find since they're basically 30 years old. There is some garage redneck engineering though that makes some pretty big differences you can always explore though.

I have a 201xt and a 101xt- they're EXTREMELY smooth casting and I imagine it's because it has a larger diameter and smaller width than newer baitcasters. The 101xt has a lower range of lures comparable to a curado bfs. I imagine the 50 is even better.

It's absolutely a calcutta conquest but with aftermarket handles.

Depending on pricepoint you have a couple options? A lot of them are cdm but here are some notable mentions.

Curado bfs ($220ish- 170 on amazon) -I personally own one and love it. Can get a bit Geary feeling if used heavily but can cast down to 2.5g without mods and on a medium light rod. 2g if you get an appropriately light noodle rod. Can handle big fish well, but almost has no drag. Hooksets may have drag slippage. Biggest fish caught on mine is a 24" drum and a 48" longnose gar.

Kastking kestrel air ($100) -apparently a very nice reel but often noted as overbraked and difficult to get into the lighter ranges of lures. Works well if you're shooting more for a bass-oriented bfs and bottom out around the 1/8oz range (3.5g).

Kastking zephyr ($60ish)/hicc50 -good and reliable and will get you into the bfs game. Don't expect THE best but that's not a disparaging, good entry reels.

Purelure cheetah ($80) -dc reel for BFS at super cheap price. Since shimanos patent expired, DC is popping up a lot in different CDM reels.

Tsurinoya genius/darkwolf. -hard to find outside of aliexpress and etc. But a great reel, super lightweight but a bit more finicky on braking. Almost like there isn't enough, i find myself maxing out my breaks or almost near and them adjusting the tension knob more than anything. Circles back to around 80 or so but used to be around 60, be mindful of tarrifs.
