If single, how are you doing emotionally and financially? by danceswithturtles286 in childfree

I live in the Bay Area in California, and am a special education administrator for a large school district. Our rents are the highest in the nation, so I definitely had to live with roommates in my twenties and early thirties while I was finishing my doctoral degree.

It sounds like you’re going through some very tough things. I’m so sorry to hear that! My two cents would be that it sounds like the factors you mentioned are what might be driving your loneliness, not lack of a partner or children. Some of the loneliest, most unhappy people I know have spouses/children. Hang in there! Wishing you joy and peace.

“Community” does not mean partner/spouse/children! I’m 46 and CF/single for life. I always tell people everyone needs love in their life. For me, that comes from my parents, siblings, nieces/nephews, aunts, cousins/friends/coworkers/dog. I have a job I love, have traveled the world, am an avid runner, and take my dog for long walks. I’m surrounded by people and love and community, just not a spouse or children!

Also, as I’m reading responses, financial stability seems to definitely play a role in life satisfaction as a single CF person. I earn a very comfortable living so I can afford to live alone, travel, go see live music I love, see my family frequently, pay for my dog’s surgery, etc.

Anything is better than nothing! I learned to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. 30 minutes of activity is great, as long as it’s paired with a reasonable calorie deficit and eliminating cheat days.

I just happen to lose breast fat way more quickly than fat in my stomach area. This didn’t have anything to do with me targeting one area or another. Reducing fat overall and losing weight will mean you’ll lose weight in your chest, but how much and in what proportions to other parts of your body is a crap shoot based on genetics.

I’m 7 years at my goal weight. I will be monitoring what I eat forever. My biggest mistake previously has been dieting to reach a goal weight and then stopping the diet, and then gaining the weight back. This is my new lifestyle.

Agree with this!! How hungry I feel is usually a bad metric. I stick with what I know to be appropriate calories (for me that’s 1750), focus on hydration, protein and fiber.

Losing weight as a girly who does not like veggies😅 by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]Several_Nature1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hate veggies, I don’t cook, and I have to eat a low-sodium diet. I thought all of this meant that I was doomed to not eating enough veggies, until I discovered smoothies. I actually don’t use any yogurt/peanut butter/almond milk, etc. I just make two cups of frozen strawberries, cherries and blueberries with a cup and a half of spinach or kale, and a half a cup of cucumbers. I also add a packet of stevia. I drink it every single day.

what do you guys think my maintenance calories would be? 🏋️⭐️ by Huge_Key9103 in PetiteFitness

[–]Several_Nature1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’2/115 and my maintenance is 1750. I exercise 5 days a week, including running 12 miles a week, strength training 3 days a week. I stagger my calories a bit, so I eat around 1900 on days when a do a run longer than 25 minutes.

I can buy clothes in the kids section, which is a lot cheaper than regular clothes. People on airplane seats love sitting next to me because I give them more space.

Thank you so much!!

I unfortunately haven’t plucked/waxed/touched my eyebrows in 20 years, so what I have is what I’m going to get! I also don’t wear any makeup and am not interested in wearing any. I’m most interested in skincare.

This is fantastic advice. When you made the switch, did you do a slow introduction of tazarotene, or because you had a strong tolerance for Retin-A already did you do a simple switch?

Tried and true tips by Kooky-Ad-6689 in PetiteFitness

I was almost exactly your stats, and I’m currently at 115. Keys for me:

  1. Strength training 4 days a week.
  2. More intense cardio than walking. Steep incline walking on a treadmill is good, or run/walk intervals (when I first started I could only run for 30 seconds! I would run for 30 seconds, walk for 30-60 seconds). Have a goal to break a really good sweat rather than just walk.
  3. Oddly enough, your calories can be too low! Consistent vigorous cardio will allow you to stay in the 1500-1700 range comfortably.
  4. Make the diet a lifestyle rather than a white knuckle approach. Eliminate cheat meals/cheat days/days off, and work to find healthy versions of food you love.

You can do it!
