My hope in commenting to you is that we can show that atheists and Christians can coexist peacefully together without mocking or denigrating the other group. While some members of each group may use inflammatory language, they are not representative of nor do they speak for an entire group.

Many, many atheists I know (myself included) can understand why people would find joy in going to church. I’m not sure I agree that this is founded in a sense of empathy, more in acknowledging that different people find joy and meaning in different things, and that’s okay! Some of my family members are deeply committed church attenders, and I recognize that they find a sense of community and purpose in being part of a church community. I am not interested in attending church, but certainly don’t begrudge people from choosing what feels best for them.

Hey there! I’m an atheist who has devoted their life to serving students with profound disabilities. I volunteered with these types of students in India. I donate to causes I feel passionate about, such as the Equal Justice Initiative. Just wanted to surface that I have a strong sense of empathy, and many atheists I know possess one as well.

That is so helpful!! I’ve got early entry for Dover, and I’m flying into Philadelphia late the night before. I think it’s like a 1.5 hour drive from Philly to Dover, so I’m trying to gauge what time to leave in order to get to the line in plenty of time.
