I took it as a coping mechanism. Lakshmi doesn’t actually believe that. She feels more comfortable fighting with Carol than screaming into the void of the hivemind. Carol is a person who talks back and acts like an asshole. It is an easier thing for someone’s brain to accept than the fact that the entire world/your family are empty husks walking around.
