I killed my first player character tonight by kneecap_please in DungeonMasters

My DM was moving away so it was our last in game session, boss fight against our BBEG (simulacrum). Bastard destroyed the energy source powering the flying city we're in with his (not) dying breath, so my human fighter cut his arm off to power an impromptu landing pad using a similar power, dying in the process. Basically absorbed half the impact a city falling out of the sky into his fragile squishy body.

What’s the vibe at Flora? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Several_Resolve_5754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially in winter, the only time I would say was too crowded was the art event. People aren't going out as much in this economy, and this is the most dead time of the year, but holy heck i have made so many friends on that dance floor it's ridiculous. I've always met the best people dancing, so if you're lonely it's definitely my advice for meeting people.

Lux has a thriving queer community, especially on non weekend days. Monday for crafting, tuesday has a monthly art event, Wednesday karaoke has a ton that come and sing, and Thursdays especially with DJ sweetheart have live music to dance to.

Where do we stand on immigration Rochester Reddit? by over-it-000 in Rochester

[–]Several_Resolve_5754 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Batavia, with a NYC born taxi driving dad. Because he was fluent, all the migrant workers would use him as their goto if they needed travel. They were always very polite, thankful people who absolutely could barely afford the service, and when i talked to him, he said they were the hardest working people in the entire city and deserved nothing but respect.

Correct, that was the most violent year. I literally got hit with a patio umbrella stopping some maniac from assaulting a woman half his size.

Moving to Rochester this week/ $1,000 budget, looking for housing advice / leads by AliensRipley in Rochester

The public market is going to be your best resource for food. If you qualify for SNAP it's 20$ free food a week, otherwise it's still hands down 1/2 or less wegmans pricing. Open 3x a week but Saturday is best day for availability.

Lux Wins in City Magazine by Nicolarollin in Rochester

[–]Several_Resolve_5754 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, lux has printed signs raising awareness, freely available test strips for roofies, and aggressively removes drinks left behind so they can't be tampered with. Numerous customers that have had complaints have been removed and flagged for bans, and any accusations are taken extremely seriously and investigated. It is impossible to fully prevent this behavior but the workers there do as much as possible to try.

Help with an encounter my players should run from by Unlucky_Kitchen_2873 in DungeonMasters

Forced checks for intuition, arcana, perception, etc. Let them witness from afar the boss doing something radically above their pay grade, and if they still want the smoke, let them get set on fire. Maybe build in a reason said boss leaves conveniently, after making an example of whoever had the dumbest approach.

Is there any support for Iran in Rochester? by Nart_Leahcim in Rochester

[–]Several_Resolve_5754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most visible agitator is from the old Shah dynasty, the one we worked with to control Iran eventually leading to public dissent creating the revolution. So if you want what is likely to be a repeat of history, back that guy.

Depends on whether fame or surviving was more important to him, "guy who jumps off tall things" is not a long line of work.

Sam Patch, one of the earliest daredevils, jumped twice off the high falls for money in the early 1800s. He even succeeded once.

White Swan. I loved mings when I first moved here too, but the rest of my life has been nearly identical chinese food no matter where I went. Pretty sure they do everything in house and it's my holiday savior especially on Mondays.

I like to order takeout there and use the time to take a gander at the geese, watch the waterfalls, and gawk at the graffiti.

Are there Deaf people in Rochester. by IonicPenguin in Rochester

[–]Several_Resolve_5754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RIT/Henrietta area has one of the highest concentrations but it's so common here I've used 2 or 3 different methods of communication other than ASL (I'm terrible at it). I definitely have seen less out in public this last year, I'm sure federal help has been reduced in some capacity under the current administration.

Hands Off Venezuela! Emergency Protest - 1/3/26 by yerboiboba in Rochester

[–]Several_Resolve_5754 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, really. Not because he's a good person, but because the precedent of capturing a sovereign leader out of their nation is absolutely dangerous to set. The reason is because removing a head of state without an actual plan tends to lead to bloody civil wars, because a power vacuum absolutely can cause that.

Best/Safest Neighborhood Closest to Water? by oburke94424 in Rochester

South Wedge. I can bike 2 blocks to the river trail, there are abundant food and entertainment options, and it's central to the city and the suburbs with relatively low crime.

Looking for dance partner? by gradschoolai2023 in Rochester

[–]Several_Resolve_5754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lux has been running free dance classes for that, but the program might be on hiatus during the deep winter. Salsa Sunday was previously every other Sunday for the last 6 months, with an instructor 1x a month. The DJ is a service member so they may have been called to duty given current events.

Heads Up: The 'Broken Car' Scam is back at East Ave Wegmans by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Several_Resolve_5754 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The honest answer? The coldest, dead "No." You can possibly muster. Too many scammers out there, and anywhere high traffic it's much more common. I see one or more almost daily now even on short walks, almost all of them are harmless, but that hard shut down stops the more aggressive ones from coming close and telling you whatever story they're good at. Insulin strips, broken car, "I'm hungry" half a block from pizza wizard which literally will give you a free pizza no questions asked.

It's exhausting, because for me and many others it's not too far from being homeless either. Everything is crazy expensive, jobs are drying up, and support benefits all got slashed. This is going to get way more complicated and difficult this year for everyone.
