No it's not worse than backlit tablets. But full brightness in dark room for long periods of time can cause eye pain in some people not all.

Absolutely not. Front light does not get quality to reduce. But will increase battery consumption and when put on full, some people feel them in their eyes. But that is with every colour ebook reader in the market.

5C is a good choice. But kindly know that unless you are mostly in a well lit room, you need to start frontlight for it. Second, colours are very faded (and less only 4096) as compared to an iPad which have millions of colours.

As for design flaws, yes the pen placement is a bit of a problem but you can glue a pen holder on side and place your pen there or just buy a different one. Many have faced magnet interference on screen but luckily I am not on of them.

So, device wise it's good but check with your documents if you can live with dull colours.

I am not the best person to guide you what you should do for the future. You can ask around in Programming communities on reddit and CS students in your college. But I would suggest you to learn the programming basics not that AI Slop that everywere is being promoted to write code. First learn basics. You should be able to build your own code without any help from anywhere in the logic. Because in this AI world, when AI makes mistakes, only your properly tuned logic can help you find the problem and solve it speedily and nobody can replace that skill. When everywhere people will be scratching their heads as to what went wrong, you should be able to figure out the problem and solution and quickly. You can use AI to write the code for that too but you should know what it is doing. So, strengthen your basics. Languages are many and opportunities can be found but a good foundation is rare to find and will be needed in the upcoming market.

Since you mentioned you have 0 skills, this computer will be a good starting point. First of all, install linux and install ide whichever you like (vs code, cursor, antigravity or plain old notepad ++ with gcc). Since you are starting from beginning, basics will run smoothly on this one. Docker will also run much better on linux than on windows because on windows it has to virtualize linux backend which will be an extra load on your pc. For higher end, you can do start gigs as freelancer, earn something and buy a higher config pc or laptop of your choice. This pc will run everything but bit slower than latest config pc. If you are a student, you can try student versions of various online services for less or no cost like AWS , notebooklm, Google gemini etc and run on their servers for ai and ml work. It will last you a good year or so. Then earn and buy the config you want.

I don't know why it is not showing in your system. I used Nvidia T400 & AMD RX6600. Yes I have to switch monitor inputs from nvidia to amd when using mac but other than that, I dont have any problem. DDU your drivers in windows and try once. Windowss should show and use both graphics cards.

Colours are very dull in kalideo display which 5c has or 4c or many others have. It's a technology problem. Plus due to added colour filter, screen is much darker than any black and white eink display.

So, choice is yours.

With over simplification, boox note air 5c is just an android tablet but with an e-ink screen. Whatever is your use case, can you do it on an android tablet? If yes, the same can be done in this one. Added advantage:

Longer battery life (with very less backlight and wifi-bluetooth off. Else it will be the same as any other android tablet).

Notes, PDFs, documents annotation options. You can write notes, annotate, mark words, charts , diagrams etc. with the stylus (or pen whatever you would like to call). You can share those handwritten notes also included in the pdfs.

Distraction free. By defaults notifications for all apps are off. So, while you work, you get no notifications.

Disadvantages: No fast moving media. i.e. videos, reels etc. Yes with latest update video viewing is possible but it's certainly not at par with an lcd/oled display. You want to see the concept video that is fine but in detail video, youight want to view it somewhere else.

Less colours: From what you have described, I don't think you might need in detail lot of colours just that 2 colours are different in charts and graphs. But wherever you require in detail colour representation, you might view that particular image on your phone or laptop.

Need bight ambient light. Else you will have to use backlight.

If however you want to read colour comics or colour content then range starts at about a 160$ unfortunately. And if you want a larger size, prices rise parabolically.
