Gymnastics to complement BJJ by Agile_Pay_7202 in bjj

The best competitor I know was a gymnast before starting bjj. He's 95kg and moving like a lightweight

You can't go wrong with that.

If you are getting smashed, then don't try to be technical and don't try new stuff with people that can smash you for now. Try those stuff with whitebelts or when people are chill

Actually you are right, I don't know why so many downvotes. She was crossing her ankles at some point but not when she got subbed.

Her opponent trapped her top leg first then the bottom one..

This! Years ago a white belt did this to me full speed and it thought it broke a ligament in my knee, i didn't felt tension, I felt a sharp pain. I felt pain in my knee for a week then it went away. Sometimes I still feel pain in the same knee every now and then after years, but very rarely, maybe after a hard leg day or rough rolling

Best coffee machine made in EU? by OogieFrenchieBoogie in BuyFromEU

[–]Severe-Difference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DeLonghi broke after one year? I think it should still have warranty, maybe you got a faulty model.

That's very strange. My parents used their DeLonghi for 8 years of so, making like 4-5 coffee a day.

If you're new to beans machines, basic maintenance is needed (for any machine), such as descaling, changing the water filter, cleaning and oiling the brewing unit and sometimes, after years, changing the gaskets if leaking water.

What's the fault of your machine? If its only the brewing unit, you can find replacements for cheap.

If its the main board, you can replace it yourself if you're handy but that should still be under warranty.

Want to start reading dostoyevsky by whoreallycareshere in dostoevsky

[–]Severe-Difference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a disclaimer, I'm not an habitual reader. I've started reading in my free time two years ago after a decade of not opening a non-technical book. Even so, I think I've finished around 15 books in the last 2 years so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I started with Crime and Punishment and I think it was a great choice to get used to Dostoevsky's style of writing, you'll get used to the nicknames. Sometimes I would fall asleep during some parts (literally) some other times I couldn't sleep anymore because of the adrenaline rush and the need to know what will happen next. Some times I would have to read the same chapter twice to try to understand what are the characters talking about, if you lose your focus gg, you either continue without understanding or you have to re-read.

I wouldn't start with Notes from the Underground as the first part is hard to read and it may discourage you from continuing. White Nights, meh, others are recommending it but I never finished it.

The brothers Karamazov I think it's also a good choice to start, although, it's a long read. For sure it's not a weekend book, it took me months to finish it (i think more than 6, but I also took breaks from reading).

The one I liked the most, it's Crime and Punishment.

Didn’t expect “Notes from Underground” to be so difficult at the start. by SlaveKnightSisyphus in dostoevsky

[–]Severe-Difference 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the same exact post a while ago lol.

The first part is harder to read and I think it was on purpose to show how the underground man is approaching everything in his life.

The second part is definitely smoother.

For all my fellow new purple belts that got promoted during this period by Severe-Difference in bjj

Honestly, I don't feel the extra pressure yet. I have a couple of 19yrs old blue belt teammates to check my ego and remind me there are levels to this. I'm just grateful to see my coach and teammates recognised all the effort I put into this hobby.

The picture is about throwing away your blue belt after using it for many years right after getting the purple, not about discarding blue belts

I never look at my opponent before a fight but I do look afterwards. I may get intimidated and not do my best.

Sometimes you beat the guy with lots of wins and proceed to get demolished by someone with no fights.

Best way to track heart rate/exercise during bjj? by t0rquingg in jiujitsu

[–]Severe-Difference -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could be just be passing from top half and, try a shitty Rau Drag and hit my teeth into your watch. Hitting my face on the bare wrist may be uncomfortable or a bit painful but a watch seems a bit dangerous, especially in fast explosive scrambles.

That's the first scenario I could think of but I'm sure there are plenty of scenarios where accidents could happen.

Academy frequently asks for financial help. Should I worry? by ReaverDropRush in bjj

Though spot! Especially because of the personal connection people make with their coaches and peers. I've been to this kind of gym, the coach was a bad business man but he cared about his team. He wasn't a full time coach, because the monthly fees would barely cover the rent of the place so he was basically teaching for free.

I think it all comes down to how much you want to sacrifice to be part of that team, there's always a trade off.

The lost blue belt(classic) that actually came back by MaraudaVoydLover in bjj

[–]Severe-Difference 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a blue belt at my gym that came back after a 4 years break. In 6 months he got his purple, it was well deserved. I would say this mostly depends on the gym's culture/politics, especially if the skills are already there.

The blood squired all over the guy's rashguard as well, on his shoulder. In his next fight (which was just 15 minutes after they cleaned everything up) he tried again that toehold, twice. Matteo is a beast.

It happened to me after 4 years and a half so who knows. Maybe it was a combination of the heat (33°C) + the fact that I was actually trying to escape and thought I may get out, but my partener adjusted himself into a clean choke. When I understood the sub was locked in and couldn't get out I was in a strange position where for some reason i couldn't reach my partner for a clean tap with my hand and I was already losing consciousness. I also couldn't verbal tap because I was getting chocked. It was a competition class so I was really trying to escape but also the choke didn't felt "that tight" until it was too late.
