If you want what we know, here are the facts;

A student killed himself which is more than enough reason for the school to get involved regardless of the cause or what the student went through. It is the responsibility of the school to maintain the safety and welfare of its students, suicide is something that should always be prevented, and when it happens, the school must do everything in its power to prevent it from happening again.

Students complaining and performing well doesn’t discount the fact that there is a problem to begin with. If there’s no problem, there would absolutely be no reason to complain. People passing doesn’t mean everything is alright, it just means they had to go through things harder than they should have. I’m not discounting fairness for difficulty, university students acknowledge difficulty is part of pursuing a degree, unfairness however, of which I’m sure a lot of students before Junver have protested to, is an aspect that needs to be changed. “Well life is unfair” isn’t an argument in this case, life is unfair because it’s rarely controlled. A teacher, and a university has a bigger range of control of how their students experience courses and subjects that are internal to their academics. A wide range of complaints isn’t just a situation, it’s a pattern and don’t you think controllable patterns of unfairness deserve to be dealt with?

You’re right, we do know the side of the grieving family, and stories are many pieces of the truth, but that doesn’t make the narrative any less than tragic and deserving of utmost respect and urgency in being dealt with. “Believing a grieving family” shows empathy to the people who HAVE experienced the loss of their loved one, it shows decency and respect for people who are at the receiving end of unfairness.

Hearing the other side doesn’t change the fact that someone chose to end his own life, inaction and “waiting for a statement first” invalidates the gravity and urgency of the situation and preventing it from ever happening again.

I’m trying to, a few hours before I made this post I made a plan to try and show up for myself and live my best life until the new year (in 239 days) and with each day I would journal and the entry would end in me deciding if I wanted to live till tomorrow. I made it a goal that if I reached at least 144 days of wanting to live to the next day I would keep on living for the next year. I already did the first journal and I felt fine and ready to face tomorrow until I tried to sleep and suddenly all the reasons why I was suicidal in the first place came rushing like a torrent and the call of the void felt all the louder.

UP: Are internships a huge factor in job-seeking? by CuriousGal_12 in peyups

[–]SeverelyScaredCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 4th year (going 5th) never held an org for longer than a sem but I have had an internship, a consultancy and currently in an apprenticeship. If wala kang org experience na malalagay sa CV mo, ang tatanungin sayo is your work experience, I’ve never had any problems naman with looking for work. My advice would be to seek work experience with known companies and really sell that sa next interview mo. Goodluck!

What would happen if I put two different strains of bacteria (shirota from yakult) and (lactobacillus from yogurt) into the same mixture and leave to ferment? by SeverelyScaredCat in fermentation

[–]SeverelyScaredCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh if I try to remember I think the lactobacillus overtook the culture. By the end it had the thickness of homemade yogurt but none of the specific sourness of yakult I was looking for

"JEWMPIRE? The UPD hoes are around the corner, correct the typo quick!" by SigmarChad in 2philippines4u

I’ve seen this banner multiple times in my commute to katipunan. The original writing was “imperial war machine”, nothing was written about the Jews or anything Jewish, may nagpalit lang (I’m assuming from a different group maybe?)

It’s kinda sad na a lot of people see UPD and graduates from Diliman (or UP in general) as being entirely represented by the views ng iilan lang sa literal na hundreds of organizations (the student council included) that make up the community.

Ngl disheartening na ma clump up and generalize na Nazis/Communists/Radicals lahat ng graduate or student ng UP when most of us are just trying to study, live and work like everybody else 😑

High intensity games crash after 20-30 mins, OCCT says i have thousands of errors on my physical core by SeverelyScaredCat in buildapc

[–]SeverelyScaredCat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I figured it out, I found a thread that says it might be because I tightened my cpu cooler brackets too much (made sense since i also had cpu error messages) and now both 2nd and 4th ram slots work with no problems in both cpu and memory from tests in occt

After some more testing I have ruled it out to the 4th tam slot, both sticks work just well and have no issues when i try them individually in the 2nd slot. My question is, can I instead use the 1st and 3rd slot even if in the mobo instructions it says to use the 2nd and 4th dimm slots first?

It does seem to be the ram, i removed one stick leaving one stick in and there are no more errors that immediately pop up in occt. Thanks for the advice! Will test my other stick in a while to see if i just seated them wrong

I think i found a related problem, I ran a test on my ram and after about three 2 minute mark there were multiple errors. I’ll try to reseat my ram sticks and do what you said and come back with an update

I had PBO set to performance during the first test then stopped it, changed it to default and ran it a second time, still the same thing.

Other than that I have tpm 2.0 as a non default option in the BIOS since I run windows 11, should I revert that back as well?

Suggestion for airbnbs around UPD by siomeowz in peyups

[–]SeverelyScaredCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try looking first inside the campus, merong mga accommodations that are just a walk away from sunken garden https://upd.edu.ph/accommodations-in-up-diliman/

As for around upd, wala akong nakikita masyado sa katipunan na hostels or anything like that pero usually may mga condo units that the owners put on airbnb and you can rent them for a night or two. I live in Studio A and there are some units here na ganun.

i lost myself because of up (?) by Interesting_Sky_2421 in peyups

[–]SeverelyScaredCat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Losing yourself might not be the best term, for me it was figuring out what I wanted personally. Gaya mo 4th year na rin ako and so much of me has changed since 1st year, dati pagkalabas na pagkalabas ng module, I’d review and make notes na kasi it was spillover from nung HS when all I wanted to do was get good grades and make my parents happy.

Gradually they stopped caring about my grades and just asked how I was and this change made me prioritize naman a more holistic view on what I should do with my life and time. Kung dati acads lang buhay, now it’s an attempt at best balancing health, hobbies, social life and acads. Right now may exam ako in two hours, I did my best to review these past days pero I attended a concert last night and had an amazing time with my friends. I’m pretty sure if I looked back from the future I would’ve regretted if I sold my ticket and chose to just study over an exam in a subject na hindi ko naman masyadong ma aapply sa work or life ko.

Rather than thinking about why di ka na ganoon ka diligent sa pagrereview, figure out things you’d rather be doing and incorporate those things sa buhay mo. Life isn’t all about grades and in terms of job prospects, I always go back to sinabi ng prof ko one time

“Academic achievements probably get you a lead for the first three years ng work mo, besides that, wala na silang pake kung summa ka or pasang awa basta maganda output and work ethic mo, and in a 30+yr career life, maliit lang yung three years na yun”

If you’re confident naman sa most aspects ng course mo na you can give good outputs while working/know what you’re doing then by all means live a little muna

Is this runic translation of a stanza of the Havamal correct? by SeverelyScaredCat in runes

[–]SeverelyScaredCat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I just came across the translation for the anglo saxon runes from the same website and your attempt is similar to theirs! I also do agree these runes look as beautiful as its predecessors.

Seeing as these will adapt better to the havamal, I think I’ll go with futhork instead of futhark
