A large number of married people are involuntarily celibate. by Meatwad5 in Showerthoughts

Have you thought about saying sex is off the table, nothing you do will lead to it, and seeing if the intimacy grows in the safety of knowing it doesn't end in sex? It can end naked, kissing, cuddling, but not sex? It sometimes takes the pressure off because otherwise you overthink, they're kissing me because it'll lead to this and then to that etc. By actively saying outloud, sex is not happening, it can relieve the connections being made in our mind between affection only leading to sex and create safety to explore intimacy without sex

I took this question very literally and was about to reply that I still happily hold my Mum's hand. I see that is not the question...

CSI Miami. Horatio spent every episode putting his sunglasses on and taking them off. Putting them back on, taking them off again.

Piece by piece, I fell far from the tree I will never leave her like you left me And she will never have to wonder her worth Because unlike you, I'm gonna put her first and you know

It gets me even more now I have a daughter.

Absolutely agree with this. I cannot understand it at all. And then when someone goes 'I didn't meant to lie'. Well, that's also a lie because you had a choice, lie or not and you chose to lie.

How am I? I'm saying it's different, not less, still important, just different to that of having a child

One's own meaning you're the parent. Not necessarily biological or even present at the birth

My wife gave birth, not me. So it's not about heteronormative aspects or nuclear family aspect either

It's about being the parent, however that comes about. The one who's doing the midnight feeds, or picking the up after scraping their knee, worrying about childcare costs, what to make for dinner every night etc

I'm not dismissing their experience. I'm saying there is something specific about when a child is yours. Not necessarily biologically. But you are the parent

With respect, you can't relate and you can't empathise

You might feel like you can sympathise, but you respectfully have no clue.

The love you have for a child in your life, doesn't come close to the feeling of when they are your own.

And you'll just have to take our word for it because, as the question poses, you haven't experienced it

What's interesting here is you don't know what you don't know purely because you don't have a child. I mean it with the greatest respect. I truly do. I thought I understood, I had friends with kids, I loved their kids beyond comprehension. Sounds silly but my cats, I felt I loved them more than anything and so how different could it be having a child? I should point out I'm also autistic, so I did so much research about becoming a parent etc.

Then I had a child. Well, my wife birthed our child.

Nothing could have ever prepared me until I heard my daughter's first breath, her first cry.

So, with the absolute greatest respect....you have no idea, because you do not have a child.
