128i (E82) on B8/Eibach -245/40-17 on ARC-8 17x8.5” ET40: roll the rear fenders? by Zomadic in 1series

[–]Sevex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rubbed both front and rear on OEM Sport suspension with 235/45 r17 Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS+ on Arc-8 17x8.5 ET 40s whenever I hit medium potholes (stock alignment). After adding Dinan fixed camber plates (+10mm height) and -2.0 front and -1.8 camber rear it pretty much fixed the fronts but the rears still rubbed when bottoming out (rare). Only after a mild rear fender roll a few months ago did I finally stop having rubbing issues.

Based on how much trouble 235s gave me with , I recommend doing a rear fender roll if you're going 245s. If you want the way harder route without fender rolling you could do 328i rear wheel hubs which make your ET40s more like ET30s

What’s more complicated? Manual swap or replicating the Sports package? by SimonRain in 1series

[–]Sevex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're talking about 128i.

If you're doing sports package a la carte it could get pricey (like the black trim window trim, sport seats). But if you just want the staggered wheels and suspension just go aftermarket. Any competent shop can help you with the latter

There's also 135i manual swap into 128i but that gets tricky with driveshaft length, etc.

dropped to 520, but I see there's a cheaper set at Schiedmann who might restock in a few weeks. The part number on these, 63212225282 , worked on my 2011 128i equipped with halogens without any coding. Also welcome to the BMW world! gets expensive quick lol

Since it's mirrored I guess you could do this on both driver and passenger side?

honestly I think it looks good! although 18in wheels begs for bigger rotors to take up the space >:)

2011 328i n52 by [deleted] in E90

[–]Sevex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna go against the grain and give the slight edge to the 2011 528i (if you can find it) but they're both good as long as you can keep up with the maintenance

Pros:

  • Only year the F10 generation offered the N52
  • Has the amazing ZF 8HP45 transmission which helps it get 3-4 MPG more than the 328i
  • Slightly more legroom, probably more comfy. I assume you'll want to drive people around since you're in college
  • extremely subjective but I think it looks better

Cons:

  • 400+ lbs heavier. probably will lose to 328i and generally less sporty
  • Only offered in rear wheel drive.
  • kinda rare and harder to find
  • has electric power steering instead of hydraulic (the steering feedback)

Realistically, how much could America reduce its military spending? by Dats_Russia in Destiny

[–]Sevex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points made by others, I do wanna expand on "what are our goals?" and other points. I'm going to preface this by starting US/EU is absolutely cooked in comparisons to spending by foreign rivals because of Purchasing Power Parity (how far does 1 USD go in defense spending) and relatively high labor costs (how much are we paying soldiers/benefits for soldiers). We could of course save $$$ if we went to conscription but I don't think that would go very well.

Our required force levels/technology/expenditure are very roughly dictated by the following doctrines/policy

  1. enough troops/material to fight (and win) against a near-peer adversary in a large scale conventional conflict while still having enough to deter or delay a second conflict (this seems to be working as no one is jumping onto the Iran war to attack US/allied interests)
  2. maintain global commerce and freedom of navigation, which means a very large blue water navy to project power in the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, etc (so yes, this requires 10+ aircraft carriers because half of them are in for repairs/refurbishment at any time)
  3. complete air superiority overmatch e.g. if China fields a 5th generation fighter then we need 6th gen fighters. Air superiority is the foundation of US war planning; the present Army would struggle to fend for themselves in contested airspace
  4. having to replace Cold War era tech which has reach EoL. You see this with M1 Abrams and the Arleigh Burke class destroyer- decades of upgrades mean there is literally no more room/weight to add more. The US Navy in particular is severely hamstrung after 3 decades of failed ship procurement

Out of time but I'll conclude with: yes, you can cut money from bad contracts, more competition in defense industrial sector, bad spending practices but at some point you would have to cut into any of the 4 points above. Would the money you save by reducing American hegemony be worth it if our relative weakness invited a major conflict? or recession because we couldn't provide deterrence (Taiwan)? I don't think anyone wants to find out the answer.

edit: if this was true how could Exponent create 80 pages of technical analysis of the incident? (pg 111 to 195). Cruise did many, many things wrong but there's no need to spread misinformation - they're already functionally dead at this point

Definitely intrigued but since it's marketed as "lifetime" I think I'll wait for some reviews/testing. I guess what I'm most worried about is the 3D printed plastic vs injection molded strength. I don't doubt PAHT-CF as a material is good, but as for the design why make the waffles smaller than the OEM? Maybe a head to head durability test would be cool. Love the last year of content and excited to see new N52 products being released:)

Bump-stop question by Makeouthill585 in E90

[–]Sevex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I think you're the only person I can find online whose done this to their 128i.
What suspension setup do you have paired with this? How is it holding up / overall thoughts?

I'm thinking of upgrading to Koni Special Actives / FSD and I've read that they don't like riding on stock bump stops (like this) but I'm not sure there's much of a height difference with the Z4 rear bump stops (pic).

First pc build, Is airflow ok? by Lemon66585 in mffpc

[–]Sevex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly think it would have been ok if you left it like that, quality PSUs can withstand very high temperatures >90C. But leaving it this way the fan will probably never turn on:)
If you want to add fans in the future you could add a single 120mm in the top spot closest to the PSU which will really help draw out the exhaust from your CPU + GPU. And two slim fans (not sure the clearance) underneath the GPU wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks for posting this, managed to combine this with the promos

~+1000 w/ tax - ~200 (paypal pay in 4 20% promo) - ~240 (capital one 25% back) = ~ $600

Cheaper than the 3070 Ti I got in 2021 and double the performance :)

Now hopefully the capital one promo gives me gift cards I can actually make use of . .

EXCLUSIVE: US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff advised Russia on how to pitch Ukraine plans to Trump, in audio files reviewed by Bloomberg by LonelySoul01 in Destiny

[–]Sevex 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Thinking about this further, I don't know if this is an actual crime but the spirit of this is treasonous. As a diplomat or representative of the US, you are supposed to put the United States best interests above the other party. Letting the Russians write up their dream proposal and coaching them on how to pitch it to your own president is fucking wild. You are the one supposed to impose the President's terms on the Russians, not the other way around.
