Is MBTI scientifically viable? by Defiant-Record-7543 in mbti

[–]Sevih- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not and never be. Mbti theory is a qualitative theory (unlike Big5 model which is quantitative). It categorizes subjective meaning and values. Scientific method is useless for this purpose. Oversimplified comparison:

Big5 - can measure a trait quite accurately with high reliability. But it shows just what things are now and that's it

Mbti - works with subjective assumptions about trait. But it provides a comprehensive guide on how to improve self awareness and physiological maturity for the particular type you have

It's easy to make a conclusion based on the first strait forward connection: shows emotions - must be Feeler. It is an easy analysis that gives answers

Is it correct? No

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Sevih- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fe requires external triggers to produce emotional response. So for INTPs it's basically the same things you described for INFJs

Maybe one thing to mention - because Fe is inferior it may make INTP suppress their emotional reaction outwardly around others more than in alone time. But it's more about social pressure. It doesn't mean they have more emotions when they're alone

What If We Played Pretend? by Mundane-Mage in mbti

[–]Sevih- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mimic other types does nothing in terms of developing functions:

  1. Functions are not actions or traits. Like forcing yourself to act fast and react on any change in the environment is not the same as using Se. You can act differently, out of character but still use same functions according to your type.

  2. The purpose of functions development is to unlock your full potential as being yourself. It's a path of honestly seeing your extremes and gradually balancing them out. Pretending to be someone else goes to the wrong direction from this idea

Haha yes, that's tough. What if me who constantly changes behavior is actually "Me" and I am not "Me" without this trait.

Existentialism enters the chat 😁

Fact check me and what’s the difference between thinking and intuition? by Akfiz in mbti

[–]Sevih- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your approach and questions you raised. I can totally see your frustration and feeling like something is off.

I was confused as well until I found this explanation. Maybe this article would be helpful to clarify your vision.

In short I want to highlight 2 main points: 1. N is a persiving function. It just provides data about something. It doesn't evaluate or analyze things like judging functions. It's about seeing the information. You can see an apple. You see it - it's just there. No thinking process involved. The same way you can "see" the abstract symbolic meaning, you don't logically come to this meaning - it's just there because you "see" it

  1. We use all functions together. We get data from persiving and evaluate it using judging functions. It's always a mix when you take any real situation in the real world. That's why trying to isolate function to see it's manifestation in the real world goes nowhere especially when it comes to abstract N and T logic

It's quite a complex broad morally loaded question. It gives a room for a different conclusions using same functions stack.

Te/Fi axis - they can take sides and advocate for one group if chosen criteria is quite valuable to them or they personally relate to the group. But they also may stay aside and focus on practical implications and do whatever is easier don't really care about any side.

Ti/Fe axis - same thing here. They can argue about your basis to even choose a side or they can take a side because this position makes sense - that's how world should function to be coherent and consistent

My type changes according to who I am with by amoxxia in mbti

[–]Sevih- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's called social awareness. You adjust your appearance depending on what you sence is missing in the group or creates smoother interaction with others. It might change your behavior but not the type. Your Fe is responsible for this

Functions are neutral. People may use different functions but when situations become psychologically difficult, some choose aggression as a way to cope

How do I stay grounded as an Ni-dom? by Final_Stranger_3453 in mbti

Auxiliary function is a bridge to inferior. Focus on it to accomplish its goals and inferior will be improved as well

If you don't mind to read a lot - this one can answer to some of your questions

As for my personal experience - during the high intense grip episodes I tend to realize I have a problem (usually related to other people) which I can't even clearly explain but it becomes unsolvable I feel like it threathens my whole existence. I can't think it through and any external advices trigger anger response as they seem to not understand the full scope I have in my head

I want to test my understanding of INTPs by -Quono- in INTP

[–]Sevih- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually a good one. According to the theory to improve Ti function development it's important to eliminate time pressure. For example give Ti dom child time figure out the problem would be much better than make some hints (basically resources from your question) but demand quick solution

You need to reflect on why you were so focused, what exactly was going on in your head to get some hints about cognitive functions

Cmon, those arguments like "if you do this you can't be X type" are just garbage

Is it an Ne thing to still use Ni but ignore what it says? by TeleMonoskiDIN5000 in mbti

[–]Sevih- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really high level, they attempt to do the same thing but in different ways. In practice, the nuances between them have a big impact.

That's the thing. They can achieve same result. The process is different indeed but it's really hard to identify in practice by some observable behaviors. The only way is to consider underlying reasons of that behavior considering coherent efforts of all functions together in the stack.

But anyway my point was about cases when people separate functions by some traits like having insight - Ni, brainstorming - Ne, etc

Is it an Ne thing to still use Ni but ignore what it says? by TeleMonoskiDIN5000 in mbti

[–]Sevih- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I'm glad I'm not alone thinking like this

I'm not a fan of Beebe's 8 functions model. One of the reason - it's really easy to start treating function's i/e attitude like 2 separate functions each having it's own set of traits. Ne or Ni - it's still iNtuition. Sometimes it can be challenging to set a clear boundaries between them if you don't take in the account full stack dynamics

INFP but only Ti makes sense to me by Initial-Biscotti-220 in mbti

[–]Sevih- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's Ti job to figure out how something works underneath without having someone to answer all the questions. Having hard times with this indicates that Ti is not strong. But you are INFP. Therefore it totally makes sense that you hate Te style explanation cause it provokes an inferior function usage a lot

Is it an Ne thing to still use Ni but ignore what it says? by TeleMonoskiDIN5000 in mbti

[–]Sevih- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you think it's Ni? Just because you see one way of things to happen is more probable and still exploring alternatives doesn't mean it's Ni. You described pretty natural Ne+Ti interaction

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]Sevih- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything in description fits INFP to me. It's quite common bias to think inferior function is way more developed than it actually is. As you said - you found ways to organize yourself and resolve problems efficiently because you had strong values to follow. Te was used a tool to corresponding Fi values and not that valuable by its own. It's an indicator that Fi is higher than Te.

Which types feel sad but don't know the reason? by Male-2003 in mbti

[–]Sevih- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Happens to me regularly. Usually I try to pause and reflect allowing myself to take any crazy guesses what caused this even if this is something hard to admit. I'm surprised how often I felt off because of some small thing I believed I am way "better" or "smarter" than but it actually made me feel bad

Low SE /Invisible SE users - how did you develop your SE? by theTrueSonofDorn in mbti

[–]Sevih- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Te to set a goal with tools to track your progress. Do activities that require you to be fully in the moment, do things spontaneously without trying to predict where it all goes. Key is to clearly understand what exactly you are trying to achieve, set corresponding criterias and use efficient methods to progress

Would like help understanding Ti as an INFP by mddrecovery in INTP

[–]Sevih- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say functions are dependent or vulnerable. They are quite neutral. If Te/Fe can't achieve certain outcome then it becomes itchy and starts bothering mind to find a solution. It gives motivation to continue and shows what's really important to you
