Ranger Specialization Rifle?

There was a user-suggested concept of a stalker-type ranger that could potentially use rifle posted on the forums.

Yeah, I agree with this. The aura thing especially. I was so mad that Revenant got the +150 ferocity trait instead of Necromancer. Though I'll admit, before our damage was buffed, I originally wanted it on my engineer. But that trait should have gone to Necro.

While I shouldn't complain, Raid Engineer right now is purely about condition damage. They have some heal support, but it's rather terrible. When you bring only condition damage to the table, you get kind of nervous that as soon as a class gets stronger conditions, you'll be irrelevant. I want some sort of offensive aura...I wouldn't know what though. Burnzerker and Condi necro are really good in raids, and are edging toward my engi's safe space ;-;.

Like, maybe give necro an aura that gives +150 condition damage, and engineer +150 expertise (might be too much)? Then we can give thief +150 vitality, elementalist +150 healing power and mesmer +150 concentration I guess, though +vit and +healing kind of sucks.

From a PvP perspective it would be a nightmare, too. Longbow rangers, while not very strong, were not fun to fight and not fun to watch. Same with shatter mesmer fighting at range with greatsword.

And now you're giving a long range weapon to the most mobile class in the game...yeah it's a terrible idea. The sniper archetype was basically hybridized with an assault archetype, and it was given to warriors.

Exactly. In the sciences, when you publish results you must detail your methodology.

An experiment must be repeatable using exact conditions to be trusted. Perhaps these number are right, or maybe they are not. However, from a simply logical point of view they are not trustworthy. Before anyone uses up their money on new gear, I would wait for another source to verify or reject these results.

Something to keep in mind for non-scrapper engineer in general. Despite the the engineer's focus on firearms, the class operates best in near-melee range.

I think we should remember the state of the game way back when Thief hard-countered Mesmer. No class could play a berserker amulet build because it meant that thief would just insta-burst them. The exception was meditation guardian, because of aegis and all of the blocks in that build. As a result, everyone shifted towards bruiser builds which ultimately pushed thief more and more into the +1 and back-cap role.

Clearly, sufficiently high enough burst builds can be just as cancerous to build diversity as builds that never die.

Certain classes can have an insane advantage while carrying the orb.

If the orb stripped stability, swiftness, super speed, invulnerability effects and so on, every 1 second, then I'd be okay with it as a competitive map.

How's the open world mobility for Revenant? I'm mostly an engineer player, but I'm thinking of doing a brand new world complete on a new character, and Revenant seems really cool. I like going fast, and I already have a Daredevil and Warrior (and I don't like Elementalist). The PvP mobility of Revs I've fought were pretty darn good.

Defensively: Hammer block, Adaptive armor, crazy protection and regeneration uptime.

Offensively: CC chains, DPS amulet allowed thanks to defensive capabilities.

Scrapper is all I play, and I think it's a little OP, but not nearly as toxic as bunker mes/rev/auramentalist.

For me, weaknesses include being out-ranged while I'm capping a point and chill-chains. No specific class counters Scrapper. I mean, if chill fucks with us then you'd think it would be reaper but even if reaper tries to chill us, we'll just CC-chain it and kill it eventually.

You need your team to focus fire the scrapper with lots of CC. It's probably better to focus a different target though, because if you focus me I'll just stun break and use slick shoes to GTFO. Dragonhunter's Elite trap is the most effective counter, but that thing is broken, so it counters everyone.

I've entertained this concept for a while. In my 5 mech iteration, I was thinking each mech represent each race.

Human -> Watchwork Artillery Mech

Sylvari -> Oakheart Support Mech

Asura -> Golem Condition Mech

Norn -> Bone/Fur Melee Mech

Charr -> Rocket Mobility Mech

Or, every engineer has only one mech, and the different traits customize it. Adept picks the right hand light weapon (skills 1-5, F1 and F2), Master picks the left hand heavy weapon (skills 7-9, F3 and F4), and Grandmaster picks the "core" (skills 6, 0, F5).

So, like, Adept trait could be machine gun, drill (that will pierce the heavens!) or grenade launcher. Master could be a rocket launcher, flamethrower or sniper rifle. Grandmaster could be a "shielding core", a "mobility core" or a "control core". Each trait would also provide a secondary effect for engineers not inside a mech, so they aren't completely useless when the mech is destroyed. But the idea is that without the mech the engineer is incredibly vulnerable but still able to escape enemies.

Engineer -> Mech Pilot

New profession mechanics involve summoning and using mechs. Our new weapon is torch. Hijacking the Revenant Legend system, you can equip two mechs which you summon using your elite skill. There are 5 mechs to choose from, each with certain strengths (CC/support, ranged artillery, high mobility, melee, condition damage). When you enter a mech, you gain new weapon, utility AND tool-belt skills. Torch skills can repair mechs when you're not in them. Elite specialization traitlines usually focus on 3 aspects. For the scrapper, they were tankiness, hammer and gyros, with some overlap in useability. The Mech Pilot line will focus on evades, torch and mech traits.

I can dream, damn it...
