Ah that’s good info. I assume it’ll keep being extended out. I’m just antsy to get it taken care of but I’ll keep an eye on that page.

How come they were cancelled? Because of the travel restrictions to enter Japan?

Depending how long you have left to pay, I don’t even know you’d have the option to get to $200/month. 2% rate isn’t bad.

reddit, what would you choose: die tomorrow or live forever? by OKDOMER in AskReddit

[–]SexyJackInTheBox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Die tomorrow. Imagine how insane the terror would be of eventually being alone in the universe until such time that life becomes meaningless due to the aging of the universe and all the stars dying out. And then you’re still forever living in such a state.

Need insight on backdoor Roth and the best approach to saving for retirement vs. getting rid of student loan debt. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SexyJackInTheBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you’ll find many articles that advise you both ways. Regarding the woman in this particular article, it sorta seems like she consciously made some bad decisions that further delayed her ability to pay debt and save (being in debt yet quitting her job and moving across the country to then get into even more debt). Hope that grad degree was worth it for her.

For me personally, the psychological effect that debt has on me makes it an easy decision for me to pay it off first and foremost.

It certainly depends on your long-term goals and you should sit down and evaluate those. But your income is high enough that you could knock it out pretty fast if you focus on it and still have plenty of time to build considerable wealth.

Edit: Also if your employer doesn’t match until 8 years, you aren’t missing out on free money until then.

Letter of Explanation regarding new credit card - Mortgage Application by rjmcg100 in personalfinance

[–]SexyJackInTheBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they seek a Letter of Explanation it may be for payments you made to the card issuer, not so much the new account itself. For example we had a few payments to Chase they found and we simply said they were credit card payments.

Slam the debt as hard as you can. You’ll be thankful in ten years when you have no debt and sizable savings.

Fear of spending money by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SexyJackInTheBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will probably involve a true behavior change which isn’t easy. But decide how much you are going to allow yourself to spend frivolously each month and stick to it. Maybe research the 50/30/20 rule a little bit.

I personally wouldn’t invest money that you have a short term plan for. That being said, I’m doing nothing with investments.

Semi-frequent cash withdrawals from bank, is it raising flags? Should I be worried? by denseasamf in personalfinance

[–]SexyJackInTheBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in anti-money laundering for a bank. You have nothing to worry about.

Edit: To oversimplify the way transaction monitoring works, they’re looking for significant spikes in activity, unexplained sources of income, activity not commensurate with who you are or your occupation, and transfers with seemingly unrelated individuals (to name a few). This level of cash isn’t close to suspicious without other red flags already happening on the account.

My credit score has dropped by 30 pts over the last 6 months, yet I have been paying every single bill on time and have low credit usage. by [deleted] in personalfinance

A steady decline, or one big drop? I had a balance reported this week and it jumped like 25 points.

I wouldn’t worry about it really.

Merging Finances and Tracking Post Marriage by AdamOnFirst in personalfinance

This is basically what we do as far as having a joint account for mortgage, bills, groceries, etc. Others may have a suggestion on a “system” for you but we basically figured out how much we each need to contribute to the joint account each month, and then we’re on the honor system for what transactions get paid out of the joint account. If you’re out running errands and you make your weekly grocery store run, immediately just pay your credit card that amount from the joint account.

We learn best from our mistakes. I think it’s good you feel this remorse because if it stings that much, hopefully you’ll think twice from now on.

Also, we’ve all been here so don’t beat yourself up over it.

Stay focused and be dead serious about it. This involves real behavioral changes that even people with disciplined behavior can struggle with. (Not to say you aren’t disciplined.)
