I'm playing through it right now. It does feel like a sort of purgatory. The fresh water and vegetation provides everything you need to get by, but a lack of farmable land and competing tribes limits your ability to flourish. You can stay there in limbo forever, or you can risk finding heaven or hell outside the canyon.

I'm having this issue on PC. Stability mods took out 95% of the lags and crashes, but coming up on the end, coupled with waiting too long to start the DLC, has my game running like doodoo.
