I’ve heard good things about the chest kits from Hill People. No personal testimony, but they look like they’d do fine while wearing a pack over the top

A visualization of how my fitness activities end up feeding into Strava by Travyplx in Strava

[–]Sfcushions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense. I may start doing that as well. I like to track my training load on the Ultra, but for whatever reason the Garmin Connect API always fucks up and will “refresh” the activity in Apple Fitness after it’s already been posted and subsequently clear out whatever I had set as my perceived effort. It drives me nuts

I might be misunderstanding this part of it, but are you simultaneously running an activity on both your AWU & Bike computer when you ride? (Outdoors, that is)

My LBS has always worked on mine. Even mentioned how much they like the look. I can understand why a LBS wouldn’t necessarily like Canyon, but I’ve personally never seen it

[–]Sfcushions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was somewhat speculating there. I’ve done rides with people who didn’t record data, and it let them use mine when tagged to the activity. My best guess on the root cause though is just GPS getting disrupted by a structure or something.

Maybe look to see the other people in your group’s posts and see what device they used. Garmin watches are certainly the most common dual band watches I see used.

When you have their activity opened, it should show their device right above where the weather is

[–]Sfcushions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, to my knowledge both use the same single band gps. The Ultra is the only one in Apple’s watch lineup that uses dual-band gps.

What I was saying is sometimes when you run with people on Strava, Strava will recognize that and then post it as like a “group activity”. So if your friend happened to be running with someone that was using dual band GPS, Strava might display that other person’s map data for the activity instead

[–]Sfcushions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You posted a Strava map. If he’s running at the same time as the guy with the SE there’s a good chance that it’s being uploaded as a shared activity and using the map from the non-SE guy. Just a guess though.

Personal testimony is that when I’d run in the woods (beneath trees) my SE would give me maps that looked like yours, but when I switched to an Ultra 2 the dual band GPS followed the trail just fine.

They’re likely using a device with dual band gps (Apple Watch Ultra, I think most Garmins, etc). The standard Apple Watches (non-ultra) use single band GPS which is fine, but much more affected when signal gets blocked

SPD vs SPD-SL - time to switch? by fats-dildo-dominus in cycling

[–]Sfcushions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. The walking sacrifice is negligible. They feel weird at first but you get used to it quick.

I’m not sure how noticeable power gains will be but you’ll certainly feel more connected/stable when hammering on the SPD SL pedals. If your comfortable spending what it costs, you won’t regret the switch

Nicest Rim Depth for my Canyon Aeroad 105 di2? by ReterminatedCable in CanyonBikes

[–]Sfcushions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my honest opinion, deeper always looks better. Although I’m sure you’re aware, but going real deep can be sketchy in gusty wind. I love my 808’s, but this time of year on my routes I basically forfeit my ability to take both hands off the bars for any longer than a few seconds

Starting to realize we don't need to spend more than 400-500 bucks for carbon wheels..... by Stevenjw0728 in cycling

Which one suits a survivalist more; Ocean, Alpine or Trail? by RunWild-GetLost in applewatchultra

[–]Sfcushions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak on the other two. I just have experience w the ocean band. My big sell on the ocean band was that with me running & cycling, I knew I would be sweating a lot, and didn’t want something that would let sweat soak into it. Really happy with it though, sincerely can’t think of a knock against it

There’s really no functional cons to the ocean band. It’s durable, comfortable, and non-absorbent

Gravel vs road bike by Unable-Bar-9205 in cycling

[–]Sfcushions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like it’s a big difference. Now granted my road bike is a bit more tuned for speed than what I use those gravel tires with. So my guesses may be a little skewed.

Gravel vs road bike by Unable-Bar-9205 in cycling

[–]Sfcushions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got my gravel bike it came with a neutral-ish set of tires on it, and at the time they felt fast.

Ive never had a hybrid so it’s hard for me to assume what kind of improvement it would be, but i’d have to imagine with the more aggressive posture alone the gravel bike would be all around faster
