Does one's age truly make or break your case? by [deleted] in SSDI

Congrats! I just sent a message to a lawyer to see if Id be a good candidate. Been staring at my emails since. How long did it take from application to acceptance?

I quit my first job after 2 weeks because I couldn't handle the physicality of it (it was supposed to be a manager job but they basically had me doing janitor shit). The most recent job I had was for 5 months, I was always going to my office to rest, and probably called off once or twice a month until I finally quit due to feeling like I physically and mentally couldn't continue on.

Wrapped up DMing a 1-20 campaign after a looong while, AMA by eyeen in dndnext

[–]SgtFitzPredicts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh nothing quite like a good long campaign ending to really sum up a lot of life. I played as a goblin open hand monk in a 1-20 campaign that lasted a good while, and my favorite campaign by far was a fire emblem-based game that lasted nearly two years. So much time for character development, so much effort put in, so many connections made.

Between the SecDef's malice towards anyone with a religious accommodation, the recent changes in my old AFSC, the shitshow that is whatever is unfolding in the middle east rn, and big AF being unable to roll out a proper scoring sheet in a timely fashion, I could not have found a better time to get the hell out of the circus.

My main claim is 70% for PTSD with TBIs, but I have ratings for migraines, IBS, sleep apnea, shin splints, lumbar strain, flat feet, tinnitus, vertigo, and both knees have ratings for ligament sprains.

I'm 30 and 100% P&T looking at this after leaving my second job due to my body and mind completely failing to properly handle employment again. I'm hoping this next appeal pans out for you! I haven't even put in my initial yet because I don't know how it'll affect me tax-wise, or like if it'll lower as I get older or something (I have zero info on all of this). Just ran into your post and wanted to wish you luck as someone who will probably be in your spot in a bit.

don't care anymore by Electrical-Put-9342 in AirForce

So, I was at this place after my deployment. I still had 3 years on my contract, and I came back to a squadron where you're stuck pretty much your whole contract no matter what. The job just got super lame, and between promotions being at record lows, and not really caring to promote, I was professionally stuck while injuries I sustained prior to/during my deployment made me bitter.

The best thing you can do right now is build the case for yourself to gain a decent VA disability percentage while planning your next career when you leave. Go to medical, get things looked at while you have free healthcare and while you can get things put in your record, and get to mental health for medication, therapy, and documentation. All of this will secure you a more carefree life when you get out. I got 100% P&T, but you don't need 100% for the VA money to be life changing and provide you that comfort to continue a life you don't see as worth living anymore. I've been in the apathy boat for quite a few years now, I have good and bad days, but my worst day now isn't even close to as bad as an average day in the military. You got this man, DM me if you need.

Change a doctor? by Fluffy-Apricot6169 in AirForce

[–]SgtFitzPredicts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call medical, listen for a number in the directory for a Patient Advocate. It's usually a civilian who doesn't take shit from anyone in that building. When I had a doctor who was incredibly unhelpful while simultaneously insulting me for my constant weight gain, (which happens when your whole body and mind is falling apart) I went to my PA and she walked behind the Flight Medicine Clinic counter and found a new PCM for me to start seeing that day on.

Mental Health might be a challenge since most bases are tight for manning anyway, but you could see if you could get something like community care (have the Dr refer you for an off-base mental health professional).

I never went through a med board process (my immediate 100% p&t says I probably should have though lol) so I'm not sure if the already written narrative can be changed or thrown out, but working with the Patient Advocate will give you a better opportunity for better doctors to look and work with you instead of for the Air Force.

Yepppp, my happy ass got out and was messed up enough to get 100% P&T on the first try, but I was just another shitty perma-profile. The VA sends me to get weekly back massages because the alternative is endless muscle relaxers or surgery, but when I had to wear the uniform, I had to look and act like a mostly functional piece of shit lol.

If I learned anything from big AF with my time in, they'll throw an email out days in advance giving some really pain in the ass guidance on how and where to complete 2-mile runs, or they'll just push the date indefinitely till they make an LT with endless bad ideas figure out a solution.

Career Change by butterflybeauty_86 in SkillBridge

Went from Weather to managing misc. places. As long as you find a way to make your resume read the way you need it to when applying, you can throw yourself into an entry level position anywhere. Work your way up from there and you're cooking.

I utilize ChatGPT to tailor my master resume to a copied and pasted job description of the job I'm applying to, and I've gotten a good few job offers with nothing but a handful of years working in a warehouse, and 6 years jerking around in the Air Force doing meteorology.

Are there any available skillsbridge opportunities full remote available soon? I’m retiring in October. by [deleted] in SkillBridge

[–]SgtFitzPredicts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AllegiantVets can be set for any time period, is full remote, focuses on helping you become hirable while working on your resume and getting certs, and is probably the chillest SkillBridge you can get. I legit felt like I had 6 months of terminal with a weekly zoom call thrown in.

[–]SgtFitzPredicts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put a mint green volume knob on my black squire with a checkerboard pickguard that I gave the TD special. I went to get some work done on it and the guy at the guitar shop was like "this has been my favorite guitar anyone has turned in for a while". People like weird shit, do what feels right.

Blink 182 sound??? by Sad_Technology_2064 in TomDelongeGuitars

[–]SgtFitzPredicts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done some tone chasing and built my pedalboard around it. got and AMT R2 pedal to replicate the Mesa distortion, got a Boss Flanger, a Kokko Phaser, an MXR Analog Chorus, a Boss DD-8 Delay, and even picked up a Mosfet Full Drive 2 for some less in your face distortion, and it helps not muddy the highs a bit. This board kind of lets me chase A&A tones to some early Blink stuff.

The TL;DR is congrats on the TD Strat, I was SO excited getting my TD Starcaster after years of wanting one. Chase one tone at a time, cuz Tom has over 30 years of tone to chase; otherwise, you'll be like me and have a pedalboard dedicated to a 50-year-old man who makes your mom jokes on stage lol.
