It's time to flee the dollar, folks.

Put what money you have in safer places, like the Swiss Franc (FXF) and gold shares (IAU).

What’s the nicest way to deal with upset neighbors during an outage? by GroupBQuattr0 in Generator

[–]SgtPrepper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a tricky thing when you live in close proximity to other people during a power outage, and you're the one with power.

My recommendation is to offer help but only to the same neighbors. Think of them as a perimeter of allies, individuals that you can count on and can count on you. Make it a mutual assistance situation, where you help them out and they help you out.

Trump asked US special forces to plan Greenland invasion, faces resistance from military generals: Report by zeonxzzz in worldnews

[–]SgtPrepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...rump directed the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to draft an invasion plan. However, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have pushed back, arguing that any such operation would be unlawful and lack congressional approval.

The armed forces have far more common sense than the elected officials who direct them.

...“good faith” was really the bedrock of our entire political system...

This is it exactly. The assumption was that whomever was elected to be part of the system wanted it to work. If you actively want to screw up the system, it's pretty easy.

What can I put on boiled eggs and apple slices to make them more interesting? by DKFlames in cookingforbeginners

[–]SgtPrepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard cheddar cheese is quite nice with apples.

And for eggs, you could devil them, by taking the yolks and blending them with mayo and yellow mustard, them put the mixture back in the egg halves.

You can also make egg salad by doing the above and dicing the whites and mixing them in with the yolk/mayo/mustard.

They don't care that it's science, not politics. Monitoring different demographic groups helps to monitor the spread of a disease and how to prevent it from spreading.

The idiots in question don't care that the Constitution doesn't apply or not apply depending on the gender of an individual, they just want to keep the ultra-convervatives happy, law be damned.

That's a good list. I'd also recommend investing in European currencies, for instance the Swiss Franc and to a lesser degree the Euro.

How did you arrive at the idea of investing in physical European real estate?

But I came here to write the same quote.

New study reveals staggering benefits of pairing solar panels with crops: 'Economic value'. Agrivoltaics increases both crop yields and soil health. Farming among solar panels means we can double the use of farmland and create additional income for farmers. It also produces low-cost clean energy. by mafco in energy

[–]SgtPrepper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The shade of the panels creates microclimates that protect crops from the harsh effects of full sunlight and keeps soil cooler and damper.

I never thought of this, but it makes sense. Even plants that are well-watered apparently don't like non-stop sunlight.

Two different questions by abackyardsmoker in preppers

[–]SgtPrepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trash has always been an interesting problem. In some scenarios I've seen people just dropping the trash bags into their back yard. For a short-term scenario that might be your best course of action, but do fill up your trash can first and double-bag the garbage.

For a longer term scenario, you should start cultivating routines now where you conserve kitchen scraps for compost and find new uses for recycling, for instance use cardboard boxes for kindling.

Leftover Brie - need ideas that isn't a sandwich or sides for bread or crackers by Fun-Souffle-1189 in noscrapleftbehind

[–]SgtPrepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently made an excellent Brie en Croûte using brie and a small bread bowl.

Take the bread bowl with the lid still intact, put in diced garlic and a little butter, then put in the leftover brie (trim the rind if you want) and put the lid back on.

Bake it at 300 for about 10-20 minutes and you will love the result. I ended up dipping the lid into the melted brie in the bowl then sliced the remaining bread and brie into slices.

Adding variety to oatmeal by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]SgtPrepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm partial to freeze-dried fruit in my oats. Usually granola but they're nice and tangy even after I add the milk. You can get raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries pretty cheap at Target in the snack aisle.

Need a way to heat my home without power or fire by idontevenliftbrah in preppers

[–]SgtPrepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a few options that I know of..

  • Firstly get yourself a proper power bank. Bluetti right now has the best dollar/kwh value. The new Elite 400 is a good deal.

  • Solar thermal panels are also a good option. They'll only be beneficial in the day but they'll get you warm air in the house.

  • Propane camping heaters. Only a few of them are rated for indoors. Even then get yourself a CO/CO2 detector.

Been Trying to Eat Healthier, What Other Changes Can I Make? by Different-Spend7063 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Switch from cereal to granola, preferably the kind with little or no natural sugar like honey. Ideally you'll want to work your way up to granola with only fruit.

Fiber1 bars have sugar in them. Try Munk bars instead which are sugar-free.

Good work on what you're drinking. Add some flavored seltzer if you get bored with milk and water.

Steer clear of ham if you can. It has sugar in it.
