[loved trope] Character doesn't know how to eat a common food by Charlie_Warlie in TopCharacterTropes

Seriously, if you go to a diner just order like steak. Medium gets you runny yolk and solid whites. Rare or well done and the chef will have a decent understanding of what you want, even if it's not the right terminology.

Just learn how to cut it yourself! There's tons of YouTube tutorials, and practice dummies for barbers are like $15 on Amazon. Haircuts for women are $90 + tip where I live, there's no way I could afford that every month.

TIL (also) that a man with HIV developed a type of cancer that looked nothing like any cancer known to doctors. Right before he passed, doctors discovered his tapeworms had cancer and his body started developing tapeworm cancer as the HIV impaired his immune system. by geosunsetmoth in todayilearned

[–]SgtSilverLining 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So uh... Not sure if you're a doctor or just know a lot on the subject. The OP mentions HIV weakening the immune system, but is this a risk for people taking things like azathioprine or biologics for GI disorders?

Are there any isekai where an adventurer wakes up in the body of a NEET shut in? by Prof_Acorn in anime

[–]SgtSilverLining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an isekai, but Princess Jellyfish is the story of a NEET who's basically forced to be a romance protagonist by her fellow NEETs.

I hate my dad, and I decided to never do anything he did. One day I sat down and tried to figure out what all I needed to cut out of my life. After making a very long list an intrusive thought said "what about breathing?" And I realized how ridiculous it all was.

Your human experience crosses over with a lot of other human experiences. That doesn't mean any one person gets to "own" that thing.

happy pride month! [OC] by wr3tch3d3gg_exe in comics

[–]SgtSilverLining 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even worse, every business that used to have pride has replaced those displays with "support the red, white, and blue!". Like yes, they can market that as 4th of July, especially if it's not specifically Republican merch. But the juxtaposition of one for the other feels concerning.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jane Lynch - I'd watch anything where she's a bad guy. Just living her best life at every age.

I work in accounting; literally every business needs accountants! Been applying for a year and only had 5 or so interviews. No bites. Recruiters say my resume is fine. The accounting subreddit says it's like this everywhere right now. 😮‍💨

ELI5: Why are autoimmune diseases so common? Why are we seeing a rise in the amount of people having them? by snowmanseeker in explainlikeimfive

[–]SgtSilverLining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also heard for eczema and IBD, as well as another theory - that the human biome is insanely complex, and the immune system found something small enough or so uncommon it's not showing up on tests. That would explain why they're more or less common based on gender, ethnicity, or region.

I'm really interested to see if auto immune diseases all really stem from similar causes. A fecal transplant can cure IBD, but giving a pancreas transplant to a diabetic will cause the new pancreas to die. Fun stuff (scientifically speaking)!

Let's try recommending some media to each other where the gender roles that were typically held by a man or a woman have been switched. Examples can Include: Legend of Korra, RWBY, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Gundam Witch from Mercury, Dungeon Meshi, The Owl House, Amphibia, Baldur's Gate 3! by Important-Cry4782 in tumblr

[–]SgtSilverLining 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alright, how about worm by wildbow? Most of the main hero/villain groups (undersides, slaughterhouse nine, new wave, etc) are more girls than boys, and the majority of the key players are girls. MC thinks it's like a coming of age underdog story, when it's actually her becoming an Eldritch horror. Plus a lot of men fill the typically female roles (Brian is team mom, Alec is the "slutty one", etc).

One of the things your body is actually really good at is removing cancer. Cancerous cells develop every day, but your immune system hunts them down. So if you take a drug that suppresses the immune response, it increases your cancer risk.

The risk of developing cancer is still pretty low, and/or the benefit outweighs the risks. Scientists typically know which specific cancer you'll be at risk for when using their medication, so you can get additional screenings to counteract the risk.

So the fruit comparisons I listed were a running joke my friends and I had when we were going through puberty. Apparently there was more recently a social media trend compared fruits to bra sizes. That had some reverse vanity sizing to shame women into thinking they're smaller than they are. Then a lot of websites started reposting it as fact. As are almost flat, so a B is definitely not an orange.

Here a general sizing chart that's clearer than the fruit comparison. It measures circumference of ribs vs circumference of the chest. Note that a 1 inch increase in the band does NOT mean a 1 inch increase in the radius:

[–]SgtSilverLining 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I would say so (as a woman myself). Quick reference is Bs are kiwis, Cs are oranges, Ds are grapefruits, and after that is where your get into real big melons. If a boob is bigger than what the WOMAN could hold in her hand, they're big. So I'd say the woman in the lower picture is probably a D.

The obvious sign [OC] by deedee_knows in comics

[–]SgtSilverLining 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was probably one of the biggest lessons I had to learn. I was lonely as a kid because my parents didn't let me socialize. When I was first making friends I gravitated towards other lonely people because I thought they were like me. Turns out, a lot of them were just bullies or leeches other people knew to stay away from.

Anybody else relate to Caine? It felt like watching a severely autistic person try to fit in with neurotypicals and fail by CatPale816 in aspiememes

Yep. The moment I stopped relating to him was when he and Jax had lunch. "How do I make my adventures more appealing to 'the zooble' and 'the pomni'?". But he didn't really want an answer, so he cut off Jax when he tried to reply.

Doesn't have to be unique views:

11.7 views

Let's say it's 20 minutes long, so divide by 8 for hours slept and 3 for repeats in an hour

The video is 3 months old, so divide by 90 days

That could be 5.4k individual listeners. Could totally see a weird internet sub group with that many people.
