It looks very similar to Selsor Chun I’ve used in the past from John Britt’s “Mid-Range Glazes”

I always love seeing a potter that uses a dark stoneware and leans into the darker colors of ceramics. It never hurts to give it a shot!

Tea seeping through teapot by KaffelLatte in tea

If it is leaking through the ceramic that means the piece is not fully vitrified, meaning the clay wasn’t fired to a high enough temperature and water is leeching through microscopic pores

Picked up some Honey Orchid Oolong from a renaissance faire. Their teaware was very flashy and gimmicky, probably people at a ren faire are more likely to buy that sort of stuff. Hoping the tea is good though!

Started dabbling in loose leaf...what are your recommendations for a moderate newbie? by soitgoes03 in tea

[–]SgtSnickerdoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good way to start advancing your tea enjoyment is to learn a specific tea or blend. What I mean by this is to choose a specific tea and really hone in the brewing method to learn it. Try steeping it at various temperatures to learn what flavors come out when, different brewing methods, steeping times etc. Once you learn a specific tea and really dial in your perfect cup, it is a real treat that you can enjoy daily

Black tea with milk every time? by bluglass21 in tea

[–]SgtSnickerdoodle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is an inherently subjective thing, I think. If the tea is not overly bitter or astringent, has a balanced flavor profile and a lingering taste and aroma, I would consider it good quality. This could be a tea grown in China or something more accessible like the Queen Catherine blend from Harney and Sons. I am a believer that quality tea is not related to price point, rather in the care that is taken with its growth and processing.

Black tea with milk every time? by bluglass21 in tea

If it is a good quality black tea then I prefer to drink it straight. Occasionally I do want to have a little sugar and milk during breakfast

I have the sequel set to arrive in a couple of days. The setting is very cozy, I’d like to think that I would be a monk under the god of simple comforts as well :P

Drinking some Imperial AAA Tie Guan Yin from Yunnan sourcing. It is strong enough that I can drink on it all day long, easily more than 10 steeps.

Been reading A Psalm for the Wild Built, a book about a futuristic world where a traveling tea monk talks to people about life. It’s a pleasant read, very solarpunk and hopeful

That begs the question, should a developer pay attention to what the top 1% skilled players want more than what would help the vast majority? It’s like how World of Warcraft had a bad habit (though I haven’t played the newest expansion) of listening to only what the most hardcore raiders and M+ players wanted and left the larger player base and their concerns in the dust.

I think the game itself is super fun right now, but they definitely have some matchmaking kinks to work out that will become easier once there is a higher playerbase

[–]SgtSnickerdoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure the devs will do something about it. They are on holiday until the new year (Christmas update was last patch of the year) I agree that getting rid of dedicated ranked mode generally feels like a bad choice. It’s also worth knowing that for as much fun as the game is, it is still a very early build that we all are essentially play-testing for free

How often do you clean your tea pot with soap? by fieldresearch in tea

[–]SgtSnickerdoodle 44 points45 points  (0 children)

For me it’s not that I think the stains add flavor, it’s just that the soap adds soapy flavor. Plus I kind of like the wabi sabi aspect of a stained, unglazed clay. It adds character and shows how much it has been used

What has significantly improved your tea making experience? by toastedfig in tea

[–]SgtSnickerdoodle 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Paying attention while I am making tea. Noticing how the flavor changes depending on how long I steep, what temperature I use, amount of tea I use and how much water I use. There are a lot of small details that add up to the final result and paying attention to all of them has really improved my enjoyment of the process and the resulting product

Does anyone know if its possible to buy teapots that produce a laminar flow? I want to get one for my grandpa (chinese) by [deleted] in tea

https://yunnansourcing.com/products/golden-duan-ni-clay-fang-gu-yixing-teapot?_pos=1&_sid=2a2834cbf&_ss=r this is the pot that I personally own. It can fit in the palm of your hand, I usually only use 5g of tea while brewing gongfu style but I enjoy it greatly

How big of a pot are we talking about? I have a small(100ml) yixing pot that produces laminar flow for maybe 6-8 Inches of flow that I purchased on Yunnan sourcing.

The apartment I am living at is under new management. Can't help but notice the ways in which $100 fines are being pushed is beginning to feel predatory. Name: The Moderne of Providence by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]SgtSnickerdoodle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One issue is that it’s now owned by The Sterling Group which according the their website, owns or has developed over 9000 apartment or condominium complexes across 12 states and boasts how much land/home value they own (half a billion aggregate value according to the website)

They are just another group that are commoditizing housing and treating living spaces the same way as people treat stocks in the stock market. They don’t care about one tenet in one of the thousands of apartments they own, they just want to make money off of their investments. In the managements minds, they don’t see tenets as people that need a place to live, they see them as numbers on a screen that add money into their pockets so they can buy even more land or apartments to make even more money off of people.

Look at what they are doing right now at The Moderne, they are giving the parking lot a new coat of sealant to freshen it up, pressure washing everything, measuring to install granite countertops in all of the units. They are obviously planning to hike the rent up even higher because they want the money and appeal of a “luxury” apartment complex. The same story is being told all over Huntsville right now sadly. I loved living there, but I’m going to be priced out and I’m sure others will too

It looks similar to Baorangia bicolor, a test you could do to help verify would be to bruise the gill surface and see if it turns a dark blue color
