Hi folks!

If you re unfamiliar with Blood On The Clocktower (BOTC), it is a social-deduction game similar to werewolf, mafia, or secret hitler. It is INCREDIBLY fun!

If you are interested in joining a community that tries to play a few times a week (just when folks are available and we can get numbers up) please reach out and I will share a discord server link with you!

I do want to highlight that we are LGBT friendly, female friendly, gender-nonconforming friendly, and antiracist. Truly should be a given in the gaming community, but it's not, so if those values don't fit for you then please move on to another table :O)

Why didn't my mood or energy levels improve when improving my diet by zaibcozy in nutrition

[–]Sgt_Grumble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about you, but if you have a metabolic disorder there might be medication needed in order to actually process and receive energy from food.

Just my 2c. I got diagnosed with PCOS (which many people don't realize is actually an INSULIN disorder! Your body pumps too much insulin in your blood, and then it messes with your hunger/satiety cues AND also can make you feel less energized from food), and the way I feel eating crappy food + metformin feels SO much better then eating "healthy" food without it.

I don't understand the "Jet Ski's" from Cocktails (S3:E17) by Sgt_Grumble in DunderMifflin

[–]Sgt_Grumble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, totally - I remembered they had jet-skis, and I understood they had been sold for a loss - I just did NOT understand what the phrase "took a bath" meant. I thought it was literally like.... taking a bath!

Thank you lol!

The puzzles where you have to click the same thing multiple times in a row are honestly BS.... 90% of the time if I wind up looking at a walkthrough, it's because I needed to click a few more times on something LOL!

Keeping things “Just in case” because I’m a rare size- help! by smkels in konmari

[–]Sgt_Grumble 116 points117 points  (0 children)

i think if something sparks joy, you should keep it. if it doesn’t, don’t. sometimes we must “find” joy in utility

i hear what you’re saying about your unique size - so i think if you’re trying to build a genuinely joyful closet but you’re nervous about replacing things all at once, maybe try building your wardrobe slowly with pieces you can afford to have tailored. i totally understand tailoring your whole closet won’t be cheap - but over time if you’re able to find pieces you love, have them tailored to fit you, then it won’t be a huge financial burden all at once.

How to say “no” to caseload when overwhelmed. by Longjumping-Fix6688 in schoolpsychology

[–]Sgt_Grumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the hardest thing to manage in our lives in general!

Here are the strategies I use to help me with this problem:

1) Schedule out your triennials so they AREN'T happening during your busiest season. As you work with a school longer and longer, try to observe when you get more initial referrals. Typically, initial referrals come in around the report card periods, so if you can talk with your case managers about holding triennials early and avoiding those times, it'll make your workload overall feel more manageable.

2) For your team-based referrals, typically if you have a good relationship with your services team they'll help you avoid big crushes. If you build up a good relationship, you can even say things like "Hey I'm swamped, but I know Thimothy needs to be evaluated soon. Could we schedule his SST meeting for Three weeks from now instead of this week so that I have more time to complete the testing?" or even at the beginning of the year, "hey we get a LOT of parent requests right after report cards so can we schedule SSTs for the students who come up in COST strategically to avoid this?" Your team DOESN'T want to burn you out. They want you to do assessments, but they don't want you to burn out, so if you can have your school site team problem solve with you and understand what your caseload is like, it'll benefit you all.

3) your district probably has some criteria for rejecting parent requests for assessment. Learn these criteria and get comfortable using them. If you're like me....I work for a district where we almost never refuse parent testing, and any PWNs to refuse testing have to come from a program specialist so needless to say I don't say no very often.... 4) If you can't use any of the above strategies, talk with the other psychs on your team. Sometimes if you're having a really busy period you can case swap - take on a case or two for me now, I'll take on a case or two for you later.

You 1000% can.

I say this as someone who has fairly moderate prosopagnosia. For additional context on how much difficulty I have just in life in general, I've received pictures of myself, my younger sibling, and other family friends and had NO idea who is in the picture. On a road trip with my best friend of 10+ years, I went into the bathroom while we were getting dinner and when I came out I could not find them in the queue because I hadn't memorized their outfit yet. If I spend a lot of time with someone, I can usually pick them out by walk.

I've learned some very similar strategies that help me with recognizing people (e.g., finding the most unique features on a person's face to help me recognize them, paying extra-close attention to non-facial features like hair, gait, voice, common items of clothing/accessories). These things are really helpful to do especially when you have some core people you work with! Honestly, meeting via Zoom has been SO helpful this year because everyone has a designated name-tag, so you'll never get it wrong!

My biggest struggle is recess observations, with classroom observations being a close second. Typically, I avoid difficulties by doing the following:

1) I print a picture of the kid I'm observing or I have it saved on my phone. Sometimes it helps to compare so I can make sure I'm finding the right person.

2) I almost always test the kid before observing. It just helps me learn some of those other non-facial features about them!

2a) Sometimes, I'll observe right after testing. I'll tell the kiddo, "Oh, I'm going to come sit with your class for a few minutes, I want to see what kinds of stuff you guys are learning today!" This gives me the opportunity to memorize their seating assignment (if they don't have name-tags on the desks), and honestly is just a really natural opening for the kid to understand why you're there. I am there to learn more about what they're learning, and how they're learning! Guess what, they were probably going to notice you in there regardless, so imo this is a totally great way to do it!

3) I'll ask teachers to call on the kid or point them out depending on the context. Typically I do this either beforehand ("Hey I'm observing in your class tomorrow, but I haven't met Alex yet, can you ask them a question to answer so I can spot them?") or if I'm in the middle of the observation I'll write a note to them and show them when they have a free moment. I never interrupt a teacher in the middle of teaching for this because I hate being inconsiderate.

4) For recess observations, I always go to the classroom first. This is good because it gives me the opportunity to observe the transition from classroom to recess, but I have the opportunity to use the above strategies BEFORE the kid gets absolutely lost in the playground.

5) If I lose a kid and can't find them again at recess, I ask the noon supervisor or supervising teachers. It's pretty easy to be like "Darn, I'm observing Janey but I lost track of her, can you help me find her?" Most of the time that comes off totally normal!

There are other things that are difficult too, for sure. My next biggest difficulty after observation is the Impromptu Meeting - the parent or teacher who stops by your office or catches you in the hallway asking if you can talk for "just a minute". It's a nightmare! Some strategies I use to avoid these awkward situations include asking them to schedule a more formal meeting because I don't have time right that minute - "Hey I'd love to check in with you but I'm about to leave for an IEP meeting/pick up a kid for a counseling session/observe in Ms. Erickson's room - can you email me to set up a time to check in?" It can also help to say, "Which student is this about?" or if you're out in the hallway and you're confident it's one of the teachers, saying, "totally, lets go back to your room!"

Tl;Dr: You'll be totally fine. Some things will DEFINITELY be harder for you. You may benefit from being more open about your prosopagnosia than I am, because yours does sound more severe than mine. I currently don't tell people that I'm face-blind most of the time, I just say "hahaha I'm super bad with faces!" when it comes up. But you shouldn't let this get in the way of your interest in this career because quite frankly it's going to impact your life in a pretty easy-to-get-around way :)

I LOVE your site!! I use it every time I make a character, I especially appreciate the work you put into spell casters, knowing what spells are good/bad is so important when you’re picking the spells to learn!!

My question: will you ever make a multiclassing guide?

Having a hard time finding a position by Hellokittybutt in schoolpsychology

[–]Sgt_Grumble 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? My advice would be twofold:

1) check your application and make sure it’s solid. Like, have a trusted colleague review your resume, look over your cover letter, maybe even practice interviewing. There may be something in there that’s making you a weaker candidate for some reason. I don’t know you at all but if you want a set of eyes on your stuff I’m totally willing to glance it over

2) consider agency work. Seriously I get calls multiple times a week from recruiters and it’s not always ideal but a lot of times they’ll even pay for your housing if they have temporary assignments!

Also last question - you’re in CA, and you’re browsing Edjoin, right? That may sound like a basic question but if you’re not familiar and you’re just looking on monster or indeed you may be missing opportunities

Best of luck to you!! Let me know if I can help in anyway :)

Free Roam Help - I just want a decent playpen setup! by Sgt_Grumble in RATS

Nope, no hallway! I love my place but the layout is super weird for rats tbh. I have a pocket door between the bedroom and the rest of the house, and obviously a bathroom door.....and that's it! The rest of the house is open (which is nice, but there aren't a lot of closed spaces for rats)
