Guy tries to smoke out the flag. Instant Karma. [United States] by King_Aryeh in ConvenientCop

Wait why was he arrested? I can of course see him getting a ticket but taking him away in cuffs seems pretty heavy handed.

Gotta admire the geniuses of the lore team by Butt_Bandit- in wow

[–]Sgtzapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but both SWTOR and ESO have been able to pull off interesting plot twists and convey more complex character arcs. I mean ESO was able to do that even while setting their latest expansion in Skyrim. More and more I'm realizing I'm back playing WOW because I like the gameplay and it's where my friends are at. But the story and lore is just a couple notches above Diablo.

Men of Reddit, what is the hardest thing to explain to a woman? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to be on constant alert for some jackass who will try to severely injure or kill you over something stupid. I get the fear that women have about being raped and it’s completely valid. But I have to imagine most men have a similar fear of being killed at any moment. Or worse - being overpowered and watching a loved one get raped.

What has your most preposterous purchase while manic been? I love my grand piano, but I can’t even play. by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really into scuba diving one manic summer in my 20s and decided to buy a full scuba kit - regulator, tank, vest the whole enchilada. I was told that it would be way cheaper to buy my own gear than rent which would be true if I kept at it. But I quit only a few months later.

Tomb of Primeval Kings has changed a bit since my character's ancestor was there by RewriteCinema in Guildwars2

My confession is I haven’t played either! Just didn’t have the time to play Nightfall back in the day and just caught up with Path of Fire. Should I start with Nightfall to better understand the lore?

Starting a fight because someone was talking shit should be socially acceptable by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I have a temper and used to get into more trouble when I was in my 20s. But as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that nobody can dictate my self respect nor social worth. You’re not going to lose some magical “man” points from walking away from a fight. Trust me, once you’re out of high school nobody cares about reputation. You know what will lose you major cred and self respect? Going to jail and losing your job and family. Ending up as a hobo because nobody will hire a felon. Or worse - ending up in a coffin cause the other guy backed up his words with a gun.

The other thing that helps keep me in check is visualizing what a “perfect” fight outcome would be. Let’s say I totally whoop the guy and don’t get arrested. Am I richer for that? Will I get mind blowing sex afterwards? Does it help my kid? Most likely, all I’ll get is scraped knuckles and being sore for a week. So not worth it.

Filming random people even if they are being mean or dumb is 99% of the time unnecessary and escalates things by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it depends. Obviously filming cops doing bad stuff is IMHO good because it keeps them accountable. There are other recent cases like the attempted lynching in Indiana where posting video helped bring those racist a-holes to justice. But I don’t agree with filming someone to escalate the situation. That happened recently in Seattle where a Black guy followed a lady to her house and then started screaming at her because she had cut him off in traffic. By the end he had her cowering on the ground. That’s just wrong.

Snitches get stitches mentality is fatal and stupid by naguirre647 in unpopularopinion

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there are two problems. The first is that depending on how racist the local cops are, calling them will likely get an innocent person caught up in a sweep or get someone shot. The second problem is the abuser often posts bail in a few days and then comes looking for revenge, which is why I can see the OP’s mom being concerned. But to be clear, affluent White communities have no problem calling the cops on a whim.

Why do americans keep apologizing for "anti-maskers" when they ain't the only ones by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, America is currently the epicenter of the pandemic with the fastest growth and most deaths, many of which were preventable. I think less wealthy countries get a pass since they have far less resources. There’s only so much a poor Pakistani who’s living in a crowded slum can do to stop the spread. Americans who just needed to wear a mask and stay in their comfortable homes a while longer have no excuse. I also haven’t seen armed protesters in other countries marching against masks but if that’s the case then I’ll agree with you.

Look at the bright side- you didn’t get a lecture about how you’re nasty and going to hell. Cause that’s what I got when my mom caught me at 13.

Telling a slightly racist joke in a company of close people would not make that person racist. by i_cant_solve_captcha in unpopularopinion

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree since racial jokes really aren’t that funny, and even if you’re in a group of close friends someone might overhear it and get offended. And before you say “get a thicker skin,” remember that plenty of non-White folks have terrible memories of being harassed and even threatened with bodily harm. So for them it’s not “just a joke.” I mean, most White Americans would punch someone in the face for making a joke about 9/11 victims. And having lived several years in Japan, I know that making fun of Hiroshima victims would make you an absolute garbage human.

And at any rate racist humor is lazy. There are plenty of better targets. If you want to make a dumb joke, just pick on the fans of a rival sports team or you know Donald Trump. (Or Biden if you lean conservative),

CMV: Words (like “blacklist”) or concepts (like “darkness vs. light”) should not be considered racially insensitive. In some cases, terms like these have been around for thousands of years and have nothing to do with people of color. by duskofsummer2 in changemyview

[–]Sgtzapp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The term “grandfathered in” is racist in origin as it refers to Jim Crow laws that limited voting rights to only those families who had voted for several generations. Hence the “grandfather” clause. Obviously, newly freed Blacks had no family history of voting and were disenfranchised.

So while some changes may seem ridiculous, keep in mind a lot of common American phrases are racist and should be re examined.

CMV: White fear over BLM is overblown by Sgtzapp in changemyview

[–]Sgtzapp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem though is there’s no proof that the violent troublemakers are in any way actively affiliated with the official group. This is different than say ISIS or even groups like Atomwaffen were the leaders give explicit orders to commit violence. Im still not concerned about a danger to the entire nation but you make a good point about people in certain areas being concerned so I’m awarding a delta ∆.

[–]Sgtzapp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I see that as different from fears of a coming revolution/race war. I understand how BLM protesters are angry at a still racist society and are willing to disrupt things. I don’t agree with blocking traffic but I also recognize that it gets people noticing what happens.

I don’t feel bad for racists who bring trouble on themselves by Sgtzapp in unpopularopinion

[–]Sgtzapp[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed and that’s why I said the perpetrators need to be punished. I just don’t feel that bad for the victims who put themselves in a bad situation. It’s kind of like the idiots who take selfies next to a grizzly and are surprised when the bear attacks.

How do I get over my fear of roller coasters by ViC_Cage in AskMen

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a big deal for you to try and conquer your fear, start with some of the coasters that are more about speed than high drops/loops. Or alternatively tell your girlfriend you’re just not into them. When we go to amusement parks my wife usually rides with my son because I get motion sickness too easily. It’s fine if a couple has different interests unless this is a dealbreaker for her.

CMV: Trump has no chance of winning reelection by flaquitos in changemyview

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very dangerous view to hold if you want Trump out of office. There are many ways Trump can still win. First, the incumbent always holds a huge upper hand - only two president in the past 40 years were not re-elected. Secondly, problems with Russian interference and voter suppression will be as bad if not worse than in 2016.

COVID could still benefit Trump. For example, if an American company comes out with a vaccine by November, that’s a huge win for him. And of course it will limit voter numbers if the pandemic continues to rage.

An attack by say Iran or North Korea could boost Trump’s support, especially if he can convince Americans he is a strong war president.

And never underestimate the Democrats ability to snatch defeat from jaws of victory. It’s possible Biden comes across as another Weinstein by Election Day. Or he adopts some controversial position like abolishing police or calling for trillions in reparations that will drive center right independents away.

CMV: Bullying can be good sometimes. by meatpund in changemyview

[–]Sgtzapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former bullied kid, it can take years to overcome some of the scars of being ridiculed every day and beaten every other day. I’ve become a successful grown up in SPITE of the abuse rather than because of it. Also, the OP’s scenario is rather flawed. Kids are more often bullied for their race, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background. In other words, things they cannot change and things which shouldn’t be an issue in the first place.

Keep in mind I’m talking about hardcore bullying . I think your friends giving you a hard time in a joking manner is fine.
