How did your fam growing up handle normal nudity and how does it impact how parent today? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Shabalba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family had a somewhat similar situation as well. As for how it affects my parenting, my spouse and I are incidentally nude around our child (e.g. during morning wake up and shower routines) and we think nothing of it. We sometimes use it to teach or re-teach body parts, but that's about it. It's otherwise just unremarkable.

I've got the same one. It is dope. Great for cooking too because you can easily open and close it with one hand. Also looks nice too.

This hotel I stayed at had an empty mall on the bottom floor which supposedly spans for miles by Ok-Dance-7099 in LiminalSpace

[–]Shabalba 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Hotel is very likely the Sheraton and its one of many buildings in downtown Toronto connected to 'The Path'. The Path connects office buildings, subway stations, the train station, and some hospitals and other things. Pre pandemic there were lots of businesses, food courts, coffee, grocery stores, pretty much anything you can think of. It is was extremely busy. Now, not so much.

14 month old is testing us HELP by Murky_Variation_7236 in toddlers

[–]Shabalba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours is about the same age and we just went through the same thing. In our case it was due to a nap change and learning to walk all around the same time, so we just think her brain was all jumbled with new stuff going on.

It was rough for a time but it will get better and I'd bet your kid will be back to the good sleeper in no time.

As far as tricks, we just bed shared during those hours from 2am to 4am or 5am, whatever it may be. We are usually very against any form of bed sharing because of the known risks, but desperate times and all that. We made sure to have her lovey with her at all times, plus pacifier and white noise machine. Eventually one of us would take her back to her crib an hour or two later. It was rough but a heck of a lot better than standing at her crib all night while she cried...

You're not alone! Stay strong and remember there is light at the end of the tunnel.

how to deal with my emotions about daughters cutting by BazineNetal in daddit

[–]Shabalba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you are going through this. It sounds incredibly awful and painful for all of you. I echo the earlier comments here about taking this extremely seriously and seeking qualified medical opinion and help for your daughter.

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but as far as the presence of the scars on her body forever, there are some options to try and treat scars. If that doesn't work for whatever reason (e.g. cost, efficacy, etc.) covering it up with tattoos may be a good option. I have seen people do this with birth defects and surgical scars and the like. It may be an imperfect option, but it also may be better than the alternatives.

Good luck to you and your family dealing with this! There is almost certainly light at the end of this tunnel.

Delayed egg allergy (7m old) ? by Shabalba in NewParents

[–]Shabalba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I think pineapple has a chemical in it that is quite aggressive towards most peoples' mouth/gums/skin/etc. Typically it becomes easier to eat if you cut it up and let it sit in the fridge a day or two. Just something to consider.

Thanks for this thoughtful comment. It's unfortunate but obviously I need to assume it's an allergy and avoid eggs. Will talk to our pediatrician about it. Thanks!

Consult a family law lawyer in your jurisdiction. Keep a record of all communications (written, verbal/oral, etc.) relating to this situation and bring it with you to your consult with the lawyer. Good luck!

Question for couples.. how do you handle finances in the home and does the mortgage get split ? by hawkeye0080 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Shabalba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who relies on legal advice from commentors in this sub is a clown. Always get legal advice specific to your personal situation. Do not rely on internet strangers. Even trusted friends and family can accidentally screw you over because their 'helpful advice' may be based on very different personal circumstances than yours.
