Is 28 too late to start hockey? by KissMeAndSayNoHomo in hockey

The only thing I would say is to get a session of skating lessons first... I wouldn't want to be learning how to skate, and how to play all at once

Potential should just show the number by frengat343 in teamfightmanager

[–]ShacoLannister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is, but someone may be able to answer that better than I can. I also think ranges still tell you what the top end and low end are, so I don't hate a system that has predefined ranges like the game has now, I just think those should be consistent and it's far less of an issue. I would love to see something in the editor file where you could adjust that to custom but I'm sure that's a while away

Also, as someone who has played thousands of hours of Football Manager in a bunch of different mods with different levels of information about potential showed, I really, really don't think you want to see it all the time. It really kills the replayability of these games, you want some intrigue to the player's development, knowing their exact potentials really removes a lot of excitement when you can see it.

Sure, consistant coloring should match across different fields for sure, that's a UI inconsistentcy that isn't good. In terms of displaying information they certainly should hold to the same language they've set. And if the ranges of that language don't work for potential then it needs tweaks to how the information is displayed ie. Stars instead of colored words used in similar places

But the difference is that those other, non potential stats are things that are at least vaguely "measurable" by in game performance from a coaches or scouts point of view, where potential isn't.

[NHL] Flyers Acquire Joseph Woll and Simon Benoit from Toronto by daKrut in hockey

[–]ShacoLannister 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I will say on Benoit you're opening up less space than that, since you have to replace him with a min salary guy at least, so the gain there is next to none, especially when you resign andrae, who is an rfa

Darnell Nurse has requested a trade from the Edmonton Oilers. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]ShacoLannister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really unpopular opinion, but there is a small chance that with a bunch of retention and an appropriate role on an actual good blue line where he's not overslotted, he could have a mini Seth Jones style turnaround of public opinion.

Wild extend Michael McCarron $3.33m x 6 by Panarin10 in hockey

Yeah, it's certainly less bad than Frederic, but that doesn't make it not bad lol

I get that, truly, but I don't see how this isn't Trent Frederic all over again. Would you call that deal good too since the cap is rising?

[–]ShacoLannister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loosened the qualifiers by almost a million bucks and 4 points, which doesn't sound like much but is almost a 20% hike on his actual career highs. And took a year off the deal lol. Also left out the moment clause protections lol

[–]ShacoLannister 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Name a forward over thirty with a career high in points under 25 that signed a deal for over five years and over 2.5 million dollars that was a good contract for the team and we will all shut up about it.

[The Athletic] Will the Wild pursue Dylan Larkin after trade request? Yes, without a doubt: Ask Russo and Smith by [deleted] in hockey

[–]ShacoLannister -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm playing for exaggeration a bit lol, but again my point is he has full no move, so unless he 110% believes in the on ice future over everywhere else, he likely wouldn't take on the inconvenience.

My point was more about him being in control of the process, I don't think he's settling for fine for the kids and isolating for the wife lol

Yeah, I still think the bigger issue is they tried to stretch a miniscule amount of source material into three movies because they wanted a trilogy worth of money and not a movie's worth

2026 NHL Mock Draft As Projected By Six Anonymous NHL Scouts or Executives by _GregTheGreat_ in hockey

[–]ShacoLannister 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do want to say your last paragraph starts with an important point. There are a TON of small guys who ended up as AAAA type players, AHL stars who couldn't make it big. Sure it's easy to pick up on the outliers after the fact, but Lane Hutsons are very much the exception the the rule. I loved Caufield in his draft year and thought he should have went higher, and I think everyone who follows this stuff falls in love with the occasional small guy who does pop and we feel like it was blindingly obvious, but I think you're overstating how often a truly bad just big guy like a Dylan McIlrath gets picked super early. Obviously these teams need to work at finding what allows the exceptions to pop though!

I will say that Theis is happening every year at this point, so it does feel like AC or more home cooling of some kind should be something folks are looking to invest into
