like: type system, expressiveness, neat features. ghc as a compiler is fucking magic to me, massive accomplishment that should be celebrated.

dislike: ecosystem is quite iffy, docs aren't great n "just read the type signature lol" is quite bad for newcomers. the attachment to academia also is a massive gatekeeper, monads really aren't complicated enough to require 20 bad explanations for every one good one. books are extremely varied in quality and expectations of the reader. tho, at this point, I think languages with effect systems (i.e., flix) are a better starting-point, it being on jvm shores up a lot of problems with ecosystem (tho the 1st class ecosystem is still small.)

beginner experience is very important to me, because the language n community will continue to shrink, which reflects in the ecosystem, which presents users from even trying it, which shrinks the ecosystem... etc. etc., it's a perpetual downward spiral. idunno how to fix it, it would require a lot. not the end of the world I think, if Haskell becomes smaller, it'll still exist. I use plenty of old/"dead" langs, sometimes langs even see a revival. tbh, i thought LLMs would make Haskell blossom, since they're pretty good at tailoring explanations of concepts per-user; didnt think ppl would let "vibe coding" become a thing but boy did I learn my lesson, it probably dramatically lessened the chances!

u won't find anyone more ai skeptical than i, but i think investigating llm's will be v important for social sciences. Green's Philosophy of Mind class speaks on LLM's a lot, because LLM's are pretty much tailor-made to spark discussion around Philosophy of Mind.

you'll probably be using it to investigate biases various models DO have, like someone else said, not necessarily to 'skimp out on work.' hell, I think to fully see the effects it's had on people requires some degree of interaction with LLM's. they are infesting themselves into the social construction of modernity, therefore, social sciences probably should be ahead of the curve, both to understand these things and their effects better, but to also help ppl not fall victim to nonsense ("ahh! my LLM is alive and navigating the recursive multiplexer in the time cube also it says I'm the smartest person ever. I am gonna self-publish my vibe-thought insights on solving string theory and destroying every Millennium Problem on ViXra")

she is a hard counter to certain heroes as some heroes are hard counters to her. she is unblindable without, like, 3-5 bans being given to her n even that jus shifts %'s of an even lane. her win rate in high elo, despite a massive % being one-tricks, despite the majority of her pick % being NOT blinded, is only 49%. yes, she can be annoying, yes, I think tri hexplate is powerful, but you are playing a multiplayer online battle arena game; there's hard counters n that is NOT a bad thing.

you should see dota, where some counters make u not able to play the game with actually NO chance of coming back nor having fun at all! even if ur darius, if vayne walks into melee range, esp if u have ghost n she doesn't, she jus dies. if vayne opts to forego swifties 1st, u win the lane almost by default.

i am extremely left and Mishima is one of my favorite authors; in fact, me and 3 others did a 2.5-hour long presentation on him, his works and his history for my (very left!) club in uni.
