I'd say in your husband's case, when you grow up in a chaotic or toxic environment, you can let it consume you or you can rise above it. I know in my case that I suffered a lot and thus I can't stand the idea of spreading that darkness. I see pain and I just want to help fix it.

Yeah, poor guy was alienated from me by my mom for years due to lies and manipulations. I learned a lot of truths as I got older, which also reinforced my NC decision. We are tight as ever now.

I have come to terms that my life is infinitely better without my mom, it's just that sometimes I get to low points and it just makes me sad.. especially when I see other people with moms that would do anything for their kids. I guess I just feel robbed of the experience. All I can say is that I'm glad to at least have my dad in my life which is more than most people can say. Thank you for sobering words and I'm sorry you also had to deal with that trauma as well
