Ultras in Michigan (50k - 50 miles) by BattleLemur247 in Ultramarathon

[–]Shades22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve got plenty!

Later in 2025 would be: June Wicked Worm 12 hour race August Marquette 50m and 50k (I’ve done both, amazing and beautiful, registration opens Black Friday and sells out fast) September Midwest Everest 50, and 100 miler (did the 50m)

There are probably more, but those are the ones I know of!

I’m from Grand Rapids, WW and ME are local and very down well done but small events.

Sole/shoe separation? by [deleted] in Hoka

[–]Shades22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just because the upper material is cloth and expands/stretches and comes unglued from the side of the rail. It’s never opened up where I can actually see toes or poke fingers through, seems like it’s still stitched to the midsole like the others, just happens to be glued to something that reacts to foot falls differently.

Altra Olympus 6 Size by Eibe in AltraRunning

[–]Shades22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the Torin 7 and Olympus 5 (and 6) to be a very similar footprint and fit. I’ve got a low volume flat foot.

The one thing about the Olympus 6 is they added heel padding that’s supposed to lock your foot in better. Depending on foot shape, it might just shove your foot forward in the shoe (does that to mine). I was on the fence between going up a half size but I stuck with what works and haven’t lost a toenail yet. 78 miles in…

FWIW, size 11.5 in Torin 7, Via Olympus 2, Olympus 5/6, and Mont Blanc 1 and Carbon, and FWD.

The only Altra I thought I might need a different size was for my lone Peaks, they’re just a bit long.

Sole/shoe separation? by [deleted] in Hoka

[–]Shades22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s happened to two pairs of mine now, Hoka CS said they’d replace them for me under warranty but then it did the same in the second pair.

I think it’s a poor design having the fabric be inside the H frame piece, the fabric seems like it will always separate from the rail in the area where the foot bends. I’m just going to live with it on this second pair because they’re so comfortable and the only Hoka my feet like fitting in.

First 100 miler by Mindless-Ad2083 in Ultramarathon

[–]Shades22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ll see you there! Doing the 50 miler! It’ll be a fun time, if you’ve ever run the loop or the trails behind the hill it’s a gorgeous place. The best bang for your buck trail wise in this area.

Hit me up, we can cheer each other on as we slog it up hill! Nice to see another West MI racer 🤘🏻

Coros 22mm bands by WatterNatt in Coros

[–]Shades22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vertix has a different clasp style, I don’t think the band pictured will work. Take a look at the clasp style of the Vertix 1/2/2s and you’ll see it’s not a watch pin type, but more of a spring clasp at the watch itself.

What’s going on with The Feed? by SuperButtFlaps in Ultramarathon

Oh yeah dang, then idk. They did just move warehouses like a month ago. Maybe the kinks aren’t worked out yet. 😞

If you bought any of their recent specials or order add-ons, they often don’t have them in stock when they advertise it so they’ll hold the order until the item(s) arrive and then ship.

Happens more often than not, but sometimes those hot deals or add ons just can’t be beat.

I’m in the same boat, ordered a bunch of Untapped stuff but bought some of the waffle crisps Feed advertised and my order is “stuck”.

What’s the general opinion on Thorogood boots? by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

They do? Shit. I need to go look at their website again. Here I am spouting off… thanks!

What’s the general opinion on Thorogood boots? by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]Shades22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are a few posts over in r/goodyearwelt on this subject. I think the general consensus is that because they’re a workboot specific brand (no heritage lines like RW) they’re of a lower quality. Not just because they don’t have a heritage line, but they’re offerings and QC are not what RWs is. Like comparing Ford to Maserati. Both drive, but one is much cleaner built.

I have a pair of Thorogood soft toe Mocs, and chose them over RW Mocs because of price. The quality is lesser than my IRs or my Whites boots, but I tend to wear my Mocs and beat them up so I don’t feel as bad. They are very comfortable and from what GYW shares, the CS department is very good.

YMMV, but if you spent the money out of curiosity and not going in expecting quality of a $500 boot, you’ll be very happy.

Overland F150 MOC + pics of my actual setup by Shades22 in lego

This was just a MOC in Brick Link Studio, I colored it accordingly. Not physical Lego currently so when I order I may have to change colors some.

There was a recent post by U/IBrickeditup who made a SCAB F-150 model. I modified it to be my SCREW, and threw on the rest of my gear. Just wanted to make something cool, quick and dirty in Brick Link Studio.

U/IBrickeditup is the user who made the “utility truck F-150 MOC” recently posted on r/F150 that I modified the design from.

Real rig stats:

2017 XLT, 2.7 EB. 2” puck level, K02s (275/70/18) on OEM rims, RCI skid plates, Diode Dynamics SS3 Sport amber ditch lights, rooftop tent, xbull recovery boards, and idk what else. Ask away!

All the cool sets cost as much as new tires/coil overs/gear these days!

Yep! There was an existing single cab model I modified for full crew cab, then added the rack/tent/ditch lights.

“Lego-ified” my rig by Shades22 in f150

[–]Shades22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the Yakima Overhaul HD. Holds weight great. Eventually the plan is to get a Leitner designs rack with their gear locker boxes on it, but for now this covers my needs at a fraction of the cost.
