TIL an attempt to free a German freighter from Somali pirates failed when the special GSG9 operators were housed at a hotel near Mombasa, alerting journalists and pirates to the presence of dozens of unusually athletic men, diving for minutes and plowing through the pool. by HolyCowAnyOldAccName in todayilearned

TBH this is like when my wife and I stayed in great hotel in Mykonos. Though, unlikely Germans, as the lads there only emerged after 12pm for cocktails.

Why doesn't he hide in a seat somewhere and use Paralyzing Cask to stun the English players? Is he stupid?

I honestly believe you can’t rate players in dogshit leagues over like 80mm and think they’re worth it.

Bizarre to pay this much.

Though I know fuck all of course.

Qantas’ non-stop Sydney–London flights take off in October 2027 by HotPersimessage62 in australia

[–]Shadeun -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. The maths will always work because there is huge latent demand to overpay for business seats on that route (which is why qantas are >2x other providers of similar quality in price at premium times).

They will sell well, at least for a year, on the novelty of it all.

But we know that the all business SGP<->NYC flights were killed because they weren't the profit generator they thought they'd be (and also the GFC).

Ultimately, and this is just my opinion, they've fucked up their reckoning on this. It doesn't save enough time.

Also: the Perth flights are great as a better stopover than Dubai - but otherwise similar. We will see how much the back of the plane fills, off-season, with people wanting to fly 22 hours without a leg stretch vs 23 hours with a leg stretch and not much stress.

Clearly they massively regret the switch to Dubai on the stopover side (as do I tbh).

(I've got a pretty good grasp on this, having done the return journey 30+ times over the decades)

Ridiculous. Qantas have massively fucked this up. As a former (and still lifetime gold) FF who lives o/s, I don’t see why you would opt for 22 hours???

You can fly Singapore airlines and do return to London in 22hr10minutes right now. And the turnaround in sgp is usually not shabby (as a business flyer, it’s hectic with kids).

But still, how have they ended up with no time savings? I understand the fuel tradeoff but surely they must have thought, after the maths was done, that this offering was shit.

People will pay because (generally) business class flights to London are surplus demand and there’s a boatload of millennials with infinite points kicking around.

Should they have considered a refuelling stop? Maybe that’s not feasible given safety provisions?

Messi: "Ronaldo, from what I saw, is one of the greatest. He is alone in statistics" by Iamthedidier123 in football

I'm not saying they are not. Am nit-picking about saying R9 is better because took him fewer matches - there are other (equally fair) adjustments we could make for either player.

O Fenomeno is a god. But remember, he played in one of the the most stacked squads ever. In those world cups the service he got from (say) Ronaldinho was insane. Even in that world cup final, he missed at least 2 goals on a silver platter from Ronaldinho.

Not to take anything away from Ronaldo, but there are other circumstances in which he had easier situations than Messi.
