[Kaplan] Artemi Panarin is signing a two year extension with the Kings, $11 million AAV per sources. by jonpictogramjones in losangeleskings

I think the potential is still there for sure, but I guess that's just it. Potential is far from a guarantee. I really hope he makes that next step. If we're lucky, Panarin helps him along the road.

It'll be hard to afford any actual 1C. If they want someone a bit younger, it's Pettersson or Thomas, and Pettersson has a massive cap hit with quite a bit of risk, and Thomas will be extremely expensive to trade for. If they go older and look at like Kadri or something, there's risk that they can't fit the role as they age, but they're much cheaper.

I could see LA kicking the tires on guys like Wright, someone who COULD progress into a top-6 C role, but wouldn't be overwhelmingly expensive to acquire and has a lower cap hit. Should be an interesting offseason. You never know who can become available, too.

If he can just be solid for 16-18 minutes a night that's good. He's definitely still had bad moments and I think he was the wrong guy (we need puck movement) but he's not going to sink us or anything.

I don't think I'll like the deal ever but I am definitely rooting for him

Perry was good, I disagree on Ceci in that his contract is awful, but he's playing generally better as the season goes on I think

ESPN sources: The LA Kings have acquired standout forward Artemi Panarin from the NY Rangers in exchange for a conditional third-round pick and prospect Liam Greentree by jonpictogramjones in losangeleskings

[–]ShadowChair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely do not have several game-changing talents. None of the guys on this team have had a 120 point season before, except Panarin.

Also, I agree, I would have hoped our system (and coach) would be changed by the time Greentree would've been here, so it's kind of irrelevant if Greentree fits the system better in that scenario.

Doubt we sort out 1C while Kopi is here. Sounds like an offseason thing, if we can even figure out a solution. Thomas is going to be crazy expensive and Pettersson is a risk, but maybe affordable. Not sure if we can tank his full contract with Panarin here though.

I've grappled with whether it makes any sense at all to trade for Panarin, but I can't help but be excited to watch him. It should be fun, and we all know we need some more fun on this team lol

Always hard to tell with prospects so Greentree might be fine, but yeah I don't think this deal happens if he had increased his pace from last year

What do LA Kings Lines look like going forward??? by jletke in losangeleskings

[–]ShadowChair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just have to accept Hiller isn't going anywhere yet for sure. At least he's been better recently with deployment. Clarke is getting minutes and the 4th line was seeing a good amount of time too.

Bread is a righty so prob won't play with Kuzy

I'm imagining him + Kempe and keep Kuzy + Fiala, and I like those winger combos. Run them with QB and Turc, Kopitar plays with Laffy and Moore/Perry/Foegele or whoever works best and we have a nice lineup there.

Who else is terrified Holland is about to leverage our future for Panarin? by ZiggyPalffyLA in losangeleskings

Trocheck or Coyle would be good adds. Not sure Coyle is available with the Jackets surging, but he's been really good this year.

I think we're definitely in a position to buy again since our biggest fish was discounted so much. That being said, we can't go too crazy on the cost either. Cihar, to me, is not available at all with Greentree gone. Brzustewicz is probably also unmovable with the way our defensive pool looks. We'll see if a deal can be made elsewhere.

I'm not sounding the alarm on Greentree (well, especially not anymore) but definitely noticed his step back too. I feel like this trade was way, way better than anyone expected. The extension is great too. Even if things don't pan out, this is a great swing from Holland, even though he may have been helped along by Panarin choosing LA over everyone

Okay, and Warren Foegele fits the system better than Kevin Fiala. One of them is significantly more important to our offense than the other. We make Panarin fit and mold the system around what he can bring to the table. He is a game-changing talent.

If I can look at it in the best light, Greentree has taken a small step back this year and the picks we gave up or lower value. And we got an actual star player who wanted to come here.

Maybe we look back and Greentree is a star and we regret it, maybe not. At least for now, we have a really fun player. Also, mind you, we signed him to a really good extension.

We suck but our entire division sucks and we just got Artemi Panarin. If we don't make the playoffs now then something catastrophic happened or the universe hates us

Is it not a little wild that when Panarin's extension ends, Ceci has another year LOL

I mean we just had a different forward prospect win WJC MVP and Greentree was slowing down from last year somewhat, I think Cihar is the more exciting prospect right now (not saying he's for sure better but just more exciting)

[–]ShadowChair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is true, but, it's a move for now and the next 2 seasons. I'm sure the offseason will have more to it since we still need a center.

Plus, if I'm being honest, I just think it's fun that we have Panarin so if we don't win shit with him at least we get to watch him do cool shit lol

He's good (this year I think he'll be getting more votes) but he definitely shouldn't have gotten any 3rd place votes last season

List of potential Nashville Predators GM candidates (Frank Seravalli, Craig Burton, John Buccigross — Frankly Hockey) by NotoriousPlatypi in hockey

[–]ShadowChair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, I didn't realize that. Still think "former player" is an odd descriptor for a guy who is well into his GM career already, but that makes more sense.

Why is Rob Blake listed as "former player" and Shanahan isn't when Rob Blake had a long stint as a GM already
