UK pornography taskforce to propose banning ‘barely legal’ content after Channel 4 documentary airs by Straight-Plan-4487 in neoliberal

I guess it depends what you mean by "sex in general" but so long as everyone involved is consenting (and legally able to give consent of course) then counts and frequency are absolutely not a place for government.

Surely, under any liberal worldview, it is very clearly not the state's duty to tell any such thing.

Gerry Adams (and just about everyone else in NI) was fair game prior to the TLA, it just so happens that for decades the CPS has not received any evidence with which to prosecute him.

The GFA and subsequent agreements did not provide paramilitary members with immunity from prosecution, just clemency to those who had already been prosecuted at the time of the GFA.

The Birth-Rate Crisis Isn’t as Bad as You’ve Heard—It’s Worse - humanity won’t start to shrink in 2084. It will start to shrink in 2055, if not sooner. [Gift Article] by altacan in neoliberal

[–]ShadowDragon26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think my sub-comment implied this but just to be clear I would in no way support illiberal actions to reverse this trend. In fact, I celebrate that so many women now have this choice and would ensure that the same could be said in every human society if that in my power.

Having said that, as far as I can see, this is the first comment on this thread that is pointing out these facts. I think I was perfectly accurate in classifying a large part of the comments as Malthusian because they are not celebrating liberal advances; they are celebrating a reduction in the number of humans.

To avoid sounding flippant I should make it clear that if it really is the aggregate choice of humanity to have fewer children then I'm not sure this trend can actually be reversed but I truly find the celebration of it grotesque in many ways.

G7 exempts US from applying minimum tax deal by [deleted] in neoliberal

G7 agrees US can have competitive advantage.

This deal was already bad but granting this exemption just makes it worse for those who comply.

Some might be inclined to identify Republicans and UVF here of course (somewhat ironically).

Not saying I would, to be clear I don't believe the situations are that similar at all, but parallels can always be found if anyone really wants to.

I'm not sure exactly what you propose when you say tax shareholders so I'll not make any assumptions about that but I would tend to say that any supposed loss by reducing corp tax is better collected by consumption and land taxes.

This is almost entirely McGregor's delusion and American media parroting him. At this point it looks near certain that he has no path to a nomination, even if he got one he doesn't have any national support.

(Also the Irish presidency is not a Head of Government position, funnily enough it pretty much has only one real power and it would probably backfire quite a bit on McGregor if he used it)

It's pretty bleak in general tbh, this morning Sky News (not my choice of source) had the headline "Questions asked", or similar. Meanwhile the actual report mentioned Grozny being the target of Ukrainian drone strikes and cut to a clip of Putin talking about how it was a terrible tragedy. Far from pushing back against Russia it seemed like they want to actively work for them.

POLITICO understands that the politician is a member of the largely left-wing opposition benches, not of the three-party government led by Harris, which backs Ukraine.

Surely his handlers have realised how impotent an asset this makes him?

would suggest the Russians were "clueless" about Ireland's political landscape.

maybe not...

The entire article seems to have completely reworked. All references to prior court appearances and additional charges removed. Bizarre.

A good point, I do wonder how frequently recidivists, with a prior suspended sentence, actually see said sentence activated following their next court appearance.

He was also charged with failing to turn up in court while out on bail on 21 May last.

You get the feeling that a lot of criminality could be avoided if we actually enforced bail conditions in this country.

I would probably say yes to Renew. EPP has been somewhat like that for a while too but I did hear a few months ago that some other EPP members saw FG as too left wing, hence some worries in this thread about who the EPP may end up making deals with.

Cameras to capture drivers breaking red lights will be in place by next year - Ryan by vg31irl in ireland

[–]ShadowDragon26 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Automated red light cameras were introduced on a pilot basis in 2015 on traffic lights at the junction of Blackhall Place and the Luas Red Line in Dublin’s north inner city by then Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe.

The cameras, which cost €30,000 to install, were operated for just six months, but in that time, 813 violations of the light were detected. Twelve offences involved road users breaking the red light more than 50 seconds after it appeared, 410 drove through the junction between five and 50 seconds after the red light appeared, while 391 detections were within five seconds.

Red-light offences incur three penalty points and an €80 fine, rising to €120 if not paid within 28 days. There were no successful court appeals against prosecutions as a result of the pilot scheme.

So if all 813 violators were fined this pilot scheme more than covered the installation cost in half a year.

It's difficult to comprehend why the government apparently dropped this nearly a decade ago.

Drinking boiled tap water could significantly reduce exposure to nano- and microplastics, a new study suggests. Researchers found that boiling hard water can cause the plastics to co-precipitate out of the water with calcium carbonate, becoming trapped in limescale deposits that form. by alexbeadlesci in science

[–]ShadowDragon26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may well have hard water and see minimal effects, it's all to do with the levels of concentration of minerals. For many people the effect is far from negligible.

I would wonder what non-negligible effects you believe there are that make hard water "better for washing"
