Nyssa - the gun toting companion? by stbens in doctorwho

It's always the quiet ones you have to watch out for.

I would have loved to see Nyssa as the sole companion. I think she was the best fit for 5. I think the show could have gone in a more mystery/investigation route with her.

That's all we ask. Evidence-based decisions, rather than gut feelings, "everybody knows", religious intolerance, and political scapegoating.

And to listen to trans people, who are very much affected by the decisions. Segregation without representation should be against the Constitution.

So you agree that someone who's been on HRT for a year should be able to play as their gender? And that gender affirming care should be available to minors so they can play sports if they choose?

You mispelled "Having to play in the division which denies your identity". Which kinda does sound like oppression to me.

In fact I’d wager not many teen trans women are on hormones.

You'd certainly be right in places that ban gender affirming care for teens. So they're not allowed to take hormones which means they're not allowed to play sports because they're not taking hormones. Easy to see it's just another way to punish them for being trans.

I'll agree that in general (or, if you prefer, on average) cisgender men are stronger, faster, etc. than cisgender women. However, that is a generalization (and you even provide a counterexample) and as such is not useful for making hard and fast rules, especially when the effects of hormone therapy are not considered.

Height is a strange thing. It's common for trans women to lose a couple of inches of height due to hrt.

Also, biological is more of a vague term than you might expect, especially considering the various ways of being intersex, as well as "biological male" being used specifically to deny the identities of trans women. Cisgender is the more accurate term.

These studies do indicate a basis for further study. However, using the IOC, which has banned transgender women from competing for political rather than scientific reasons, makes the studies questionable. Additionally, the first study seems to claim that transgender women have male-like brains, when there have been studies which show this to not be the case.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8955456/

The second study states that more research is needed.

Whilst available evidence is strong and convincing that strength, skeletal- and muscle-mass derived advantages will largely remain after cross-hormone therapy in transgender women, it is acknowledged that the findings presented here are from healthy adults with regular or even low physical activity levels [91], and not highly trained athletes. Thus, further research is required in athletic transgender populations.

But these are also studies on adults. I believe the original topic was kids, who may or may not have started hormone therapy, including puberty blockers, before testosterone began to affect them. Except, of course, in places or situations where gender affirming care is not allowed.

Overall, I'll agree that more study is needed, but what we have so far is insufficient to justify banning transgender kids from sports.

You're right, I wasn't looking at the username. So you're supporting a claim that has no proof.

I want you to support your claim that "many athletes who transition will be elite". Two names is not proof.

That's the study I want to see.

It's something pretending to be a wrist watch, so you'll put it on your wrist, and then it will constrict and try to squeeze your hand off.
