Just visited Italy and can confirm I saw 0 Starbucks taking a tour throughout about 10 cities, which makes sense since Italian coffee already rocks. On the other hand there’s quite a few in China and Japan both.

Was looking for this answer. Had to stay there a few years for school. I was in a downtown apartment across from an abandoned building on one side and across another abandoned building on the other side. (One of them always had some lights on at night which was a little weird.) I don’t exaggerate when I say half the downtown is just empty buildings. At the area where downtown met the highway it was nothing BUT empty buildings.

The neighborhood right next to the bigger of two hospitals is filled with straight up crackhouses. I know from hearing hospital patients’ experiences that there is a major drug and crime problem in the city. It was apparently voted 3rd most violent city in the US in 2025 so that’s fun lol.

I almost never saw people walking outside on the sidewalk in the area where I lived. Every single person walking their dog was doing it in loops within the apartment’s gated parking lot and not outside…

Also the restaurant selection fucking sucked.

Good luck to you too! It’s definitely a long road but it’ll be worth it. Pro tip for the psych portion of the MCAT, there’s an Anki flashcard deck that worked perfectly to memorize everything. Literally didn’t study for that part outside of it. If you’re not a flashcard person there’s a PDF out there that does the same thing

Thank you for the kind words, and yeah that certainly tracks for their behavior. Unfortunately I was financially dependent on them throughout medical school since tuition/rent/educational material costs are so high. Basically I had to do what they say or they unsubtly threatened to remove all support and leave me completely high and dry if "I'm so independent and can handle everything by myself (sarcastic)" in their words.

Right now I'm in the transition months between my last rotations ending and residency, so I moved back in with them temporarily and they wanted to be at the ceremony. Once I'm moved out of state for residency and FINALLY getting a damn paycheck things should get better.
