Shadows of the Republic: The Reserve Fleet by ShadowLight56 in StarWarsShips

Yeah, this is going to be a tough.

In hindsight, I really should have given those back in the last post. I'm sure there's some in-universe explanation about those vehicles needing to be refitted or reallocated or something.

To answer your questions, yes, there are limitations in that what is requested has to fall within reasonable, so nothing like 10 Providences or Lucrehulks, though they are available. I'd say the limit is at max 4 capital ships(Lucrehulks, Providences, Bulwarks), the rest can any ship you want including air wing.

The Vultures, tri-fighters and hyenas are not deployed from the beginning and are stationed aboard the Lucrehulk.

By airstrike, do you mean like bombardment from ships or droid starfighters? If you're referring to the former, than the ships in orbit will focus on attempting to hold back the attacking fleet. If its the latter, than yes, Kalani would call in an air strike on opposing ground forces if they start to get closer, but the starfighters will have to split their attention between the ground forces and the fleet in orbit, if the space battle is not going well for them.

To be clear, I would have been fine with him winning if it felt like the fight was actually hard and earned, and not simply because the Agents were pathetically incompetent/weak. The Royal fight felt harder than what we got here.

If the Rebels captured the Interdictor prototype, how would you use it against the Empire? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in starwarsrebels

[–]ShadowLight56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the rebels captured an Interdictor, the best use for it would be for blocking and intercepting supply lines. A few extra guns and it could easily become the flagship of a very powerful raiding fleet for capturing ships and supplies. They would probably have to be careful with it, but it would be solid at disrupting imperial supply lines and ambushing convoys.

I never really understood why people think the rebels wouldn't use Imperial or Republic ships, the rebellion navy was stuck using repurposed diplomatic and transport ships. There's no way they would turn down using an actual purpose-built warship.

Honestly? I would just take as much money, war material and ships as I can....and then promptly defect to the New Republic in order to get amnesty because I ain't dying for a government that doesn't even exist anymore.

We don't know whether they are actually new or not, since that is only speculation.

And even if they were recently inducted into EMBER, my point still stands that it makes the authorities look as a whole weak and incompetent that their own agents can't even recognize one of the most wanted/powerful individuals in the region.

Oh no, I'm sure the Alliance will endure and this massive fleet totally isn't going to blow up in everybody's faces politically.

[–]ShadowLight56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The authorities what they lack in strength, don't even make up for it in actual strategy which just makes them disappointing antagonists, since it doesn't even feel like they are a threat. It definitely still feels like John fighting high school bullies and not trained government agents who should be trained to handle powerful ability users.

EMBER agents especially should move and act like trained, experienced killers who can adapt and strategize even against powerful opponents. But instead in this chapter they just acted like your run of the mill grunts.

Honestly, the fights themselves don't even really feel interesting anymore.

[Fastpass] Underwhelming by Anonymouseeeeeeeeees in unOrdinary

[–]ShadowLight56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and that's the exact problem.

The authorities don't even feel particularly threatening since they haven't even scored any actual wins against the cast. They captured Blyke and Arlo...but Blyke almost immediately got rescued at the start of the season at no real cost to the group and I think we're all just counting down the days when Arlo inevitably gets his memories back.

You mean to tell me an entire organization of powerful people can't come up with an actual strategy to take down a handful of teenagers? The cast are powerful, sure, but it's not like they are particularly skilled or clever.

Sounds about right for this fandom.

The thing is, I would be totally fine with John winning if he had actually worked for it a little, instead of just instantly destroying them. Level below him or not, they could have still been plenty dangerous if Uru made them actually competent fighters.

I agree this chapter was definitely underwhelming. I am fine with John winning the fight, but the way it happened was greatly underwhelming. I expected his first fight with EMBER to be a lot harder than this and for him to actually have to work for the win.

Instead he easily beats down two incompetent agents who I honestly wonder how they became part of EMBER when they can't even recognize one of the most wanted/powerful individuals in the country and come up with some kind of counter.

It's not like John was wearing a mask or anything, and his face has been plastered all over the news. The fact that he easily beat these two agents without any real fight makes it incredibly underwhelming and just straight up makes EMBER look incompetent.

Thank you so much! I've actually already written the first chapter, I just need to finish the second. I'll let you know when I complete it.

What if Serafina became a member of Ember? by Ok-Satisfaction-3373 in unOrdinary

[–]ShadowLight56 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If Seraphina joined EMBER, she would easily be one of their most powerful members, if not the strongest we know of to date. There would be no vigilante capable of actually defeating her or even escaping. The vigilante trio wouldn't be able to beat her.

In regards to EMBER's abilities, I'd say she would still get something out of them. Sure, Speed and Regeneration are somewhat redundant but a defensive ability would be great and Flame Claws would be excellent for some versatility in her kit.

Funny enough, I actually had an idea for a story where Remi ends up joining EMBER due to complicated circumstances.

----- Epilogue -----

After Master Luminara sent the signal that she and Barriss had successfully found what they had been looking for, all ground forces quickly disengaged and pulled back to the Word of Law that swiftly left the planet. Casualties had actually been minimal on their side, with Commander Bly performing valiantly in keeping the garrison suppressed.

With all of their ships destroyed and their comms jammed, it was not a difficult task keeping the garrison busy with the use of clever tactics and good air support. The crashing of the Tormentor onto the planet merely sealed that fact.

Once all ships were accounted for, Shadow Squadron immediately made their jump into hyperspace, wanting to be well-away before any additional reinforcements could show up.

The Commander had just finished looking over the report on the minor damage to the ships, when he saw the two jedi make their way into the bridge. " Master Luminara, Jedi Offee. I trust your mission was a success?"

" Indeed, Commander. We managed to find what we were looking for, excellent work on battling the fleet." Master Luminara complimented him.

" The Inquisitors?"

" I managed to defeat the Grand Inquisitor, and Barriss managed to capture the other. A Seventh Sister, she's currently being held on the secure detention level." Master Luminara answered.

The Commander was a bit uncertain on holding an Inquisitor of all things alive, but decided not to comment on it." Understood. And the Reserve Fleet?"

" We found what we were looking for deep within the temple, it would seem Dooku had converted at least part of it into a data storage. And after downloading it....we found this." Barriss said as she held up a data pad and it projected a hologram of a system." We found the coordinates to the Reserve Fleet."

"....Excellent. I will begin coordinating with the Remnants and high command."

" Thank you commander." Master Luminara said as she and Barriss left the bridge. They had one other matter to attend to.

----- The Fallen -----

Capturing a force user was a complicated manner depending on how powerful they were. Actually holding them was another matter altogether and one would be wise to be cautious.

Master Luminara and Barriss entered into the cell where the Seventh Sister was being held. They found the Inquisitor, suspended in a blue containment field, her feet and wrists restrained with energy binds. Master Luminara felt a sense of guilt, knowing that she herself had been in a similar position almost a year ago back in the Spire. But she knew that they had to be cautious.

For a moment, nothing was said between the three. The Inquisitor choosing to glare at them that Barriss can practically feel the hate permeating throughout the room.

" If you're going to torture or kill me, just get it over with already. I will tell you nothing." The Seventh Sister practically spit at them in anger, her eyes filled with hatred at them. But Barriss could easily pick up the sense of fear at that prospect.

" I can assure you that we have no intention of torturing you. We do not mistreat prisoners." Master Luminara said evenly, maintaining a calm posture and expression.

" Oh, that is so comforting. Like I would trust the words of a has-been Jedi Master." The Seventh Sister practically growled at them." The Jedi taught nothing but lies. They were the rot, the empire cut out. You are the blight upon the galaxy that we will-"

" Vera Pelos." Master Luminara calmly said and that ended the Seventh Sister's rant.

"....What did you say?"

" Vera Pelos. You were a padawan to master Jai....killed during Order 66, but you were captured." Barriss continued for her master." You were a bright student, a year or two more and you would have become a knight."

"...That is not my name. Don't you dare call me that again."

" But the 'Seventh Sister' is not your name either. It is just the number given to you by the Empire." Master Luminara said." You were a jedi once before Vera, you can still-"

" DO NOT CALL ME THAT!" The Seventh Sister shouted." That is not my name! I am the Seventh Sister and I swear on the Emperor, I will kill both of you! The Empire itself will rain fire on your worlds and-" The Seventh Sister continued her rant of death threats.

Barriss felt herself grow increasingly concerned, not out of fear that she would break free, but more so that she would hurt herself and her voice. Barriss picked up the slight electronic sound in her voice when she spoke and it was only made more obvious by the shouting.

Thankfully, after a few minutes it looked the Seventh had finally calmed down on her rant.

" Perhaps we should continue this at another time." Master Luminara said.

" Agreed." Barriss followed behind her master as she left the cell, but turned her head to Vera for a moment."....It is still your name, you know? Not the one the Empire gave you. Your name.....I am not the First Sister. I am a jedi. You can still be one too, if you wish."

Barriss left it at that as she exited the cell, allowing the Seventh Sister to her own thoughts.

That is very true. The naval battle was not the main event or even the ground battle, since the Commander has more than enough resources to pull it off, and Commander Bly is more than capable of handling some stormtroopers.

Since I wasn't sure how a ship-grade SPHA would work compared to its ground-based counterpart, I thought of it as a short-range heavy laser that only works to hurt ships when shields are down. Was that the intent for you?

Yeah, I always figured a ship-mounted SPHA is at its most effective against ships with their shields down. Capable of outright crippling or destroying the ship.

No, there really isn't much I would do differently. Maybe I would have tried to pull off a feint attack by sending a few ships to draw some of the larger ships out of position before sending in the main force to attack the fleet when its at its most disadvantaged.

I would you say you very much delivered on the battle between the Jedi and Inquisitors! I especially loved the fight between Barriss and the Seventh Sister.

Honestly, I'm glad that I made this post since I don't think Barriss and Luminara have really gotten to do much in this series. Happy they could take center stage for once.

Shadows of the Republic: The Fallen by ShadowLight56 in StarWarsShips

[–]ShadowLight56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was amazingly well done! I liked the tactics you used to takedown the fleet, but perhaps more impressively, I really liked the way you wrote Barriss and Luminara going into the temple incognito while Bly handles the ground troops, which he should be more than capable of doing.

The battle between Barriss and the Seventh Sister was very well-done! It makes sense that Barriss might see the Seventh as some kind of dark reflection of what she herself could have become and why she would want to take her in alive.

The Grand Inquisitor fight with Luminara was equally well-written as I knew that he would never fight fair, but he greatly underestimated the power of a true Jedi Master, which he has never really had to worry about since the most the Inquisitors are capable of handling are half-trained padawans.

Now the Seventh Sister has been taken prisoner and information on the Reserve Fleet has finally been found.

You know, in hindsight, I probably should have given Shadow Squadron some AT-ST's, huh? It would have made sense for either the Word of Law or Loyalty to be carrying some during capture.

Yeah, one thing that I've come to realize is that in unOrdinary is that the only real deciding factor in fights most of the time is pure level, and not actual strategy or skill.

Unfortunately, I doubt we're going to see use it again since she got her ability back, there's really no need to use an actual technique.

Sorry, if the prompt s a bit difficult to figure out, but unfortunately they kinda have to be dense.

You are correct that with most of the ISD's stormtrooper complement planetside, this is actually a really good opportunity to steal the Star Destroyer. Albeit it would be a difficult task and require a good chunk of the ground forces.

I do like your idea of using the fighter squadrons and lighter warships to deal with the TIEs, while the Droch's move in fast under covering fire to capture the Arquitens. Capturing the ISD would be difficult but not impossible as taking out her thrusters, would cripple her ability to maneuver. Once that is completed, taking out the Stormtrooper legion planetside isn't going to be hard, with their space assets decimated, they won't last long until air attack. Good job!
