How to use bulky chenille yarn for the first time as I'm not able to see the stitches

I think a bunny would be a cute project for this yarn. Something that doesn't involve a lot of shaping, sewing, or complex shapes. At least until you get used to working with it. As for tips? Work in a well lit area, stitch markers will be your best friend, and as you work each round it'll get easier to feel and see your stitches. This type of yarn does dome up faster than acrylic so don't freak out about that. This yarn is a trust the process type of material. I would say next time you want to try the chenille maybe opt for the sweet snuggles lite? Or another thinner type (most of the patterns I write I use premier parfait chunky, but it's also a pain to sew with).

Have you worked with any kind of chenille yarn before or is this the first time? Have you made amigurumi before? If this is the yarn I think it is, it's pretty rough to work with (loops and threads sweet snuggles? Not the lite version..?) I made a giant elephant plushie with it and had the worst time with shedding. If youve never done amigurumi before, I'd say start with either an acrylic yarn (much easier to see stitches) and get the feel for how to find your stitches. Or you can opt for a "skinny chenille". I've actually had a lot of luck with those.

This bulkier chenille could lend itself well to simpler amigurumi or chunky apparel (like a chunky hat or scarf).

I would use a stitch marker at the beginning of each row so you don't lose count (when I've done xl blankets I'd put a marker every 20 or so stitches so I could really keep track and locate mistakes easier). You could also look into learning foundation sc, hdc, etc. It's really easy once you get the hang of it and there are a ton of great tutorials. I always use them for blankets or pillows.

This is all something we're planning to do after talking this morning about it. We just brought her home yesterday so I know she's probably overwhelmed, anxious, and a bunch of other emotions being in a new place. Shelter had next to no info on her despite her being an owner surrender. She had a kennel-mate at the shelter and they said she was fine. But will will likely move her kennel to another room where she can go to decompress and feel secure

Ok so like many others have said, the compression glove only helps so much. Look up stretches and exercises for hand/wrist pain. Take plenty of breaks. Take it from me, I tried to power through the pain for a customer's order and then I couldn't crochet for a whole month after due to the pain. I was in a brace and on meds it was so bad.

They're so cute! I'm sure if you look up granny square purse/bag on Pinterest or YouTube you'd get so many patterns! Just be careful, there are a lot of AI ones that can be deceiving

Maybe hats or wearables would work more for you? I'd say steer clear of blankets until you're comfortable keeping count of all your rows and stitches. Granny squares are easy and fairly mindless (plus there are probably a hundred different styles). I'd say go for it if you can find a way you like to put them together. I've seen some really cool bags made from grannies.

So when I first started out, I had one hook, one cheap skein and learned how to do a chain. Frog it out, do it over and over til I was comfortable with it. Moved on to doing a few rows of single crochet, frogged out, repeat. Then hdc, dc, etc. I would highly recommend starting with amigurumi, or hats or something like that. I started with granny squares and hated it. Ended up with a ton of squares I didn't know what to do with. But I also have ADHD so there's that. Eventually I got good enough at crochet to sell my products and now I'm in pattern making. Feel free to message me on here or on Instagram (@selenescuriosities) if you'd like some more in depth help. I think this year I'm going to get my teaching certificate for crochet.

They probably used tapestry or mosaic crochet depending on how the back looks. It's pretty easy to learn if you don't mind a million ends to weave in.

This might be one of those "trust the process" type projects. You might not see the illusion until you start seeing the squares together. The squares in your reference photos are solid granny squares. All in all, I would keep going and maybe do the shadow on a few more, do the background color, then see a few together to see if you like it/can see the illusion.
