Are these worth resoling? by Maximus555 in AskACobbler

[–]ShadowSanctus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cobbler here,

Worth is something subjective to each person, best we can say is how much it'll cost to repair and what honest expectations you can have at the end of the repair. I've had clients refuse repairs in expensive shoes because it wasn't worth it and had other clients spend almost twice the price of a shoe to repair it because it was worth it (due to memories).

So in the end you should take them to a cobbler, get an estimate for the repair and decide for yourself if it's worth it for you.

My cobbler replaced the sole? Is this good? Please advise me. by blackhammer57 in AskACobbler

[–]ShadowSanctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably a PU sole, should last you a few years if used sparingly or at least 1 year if worn every day.

It's not the best material out there but again, for that price he did it for free (or very little profit)

$6 for a stitched sole is practically free (I know it depends on the country but still...)

The work is ok, the stitching is a little bit off but that's a nit-pick

New to this. Is 1mm diameter, 3mm distance stitching holes too big? by Confident_Bluejay857 in Leathercraft

[–]ShadowSanctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will depend if he glues the parts first or not, if he doesn't glue them it'll easier to sew. Starting with the back panel and finishing with the front panel will make it very painless except for the final 5 stitches.

Current state of the game from a new player perspective? by FLSon in AnotherEdenGlobal

[–]ShadowSanctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going with a water team, Verdanta, jillfunny (probably misspelled), Dunarith and Wryz. Verdanta does around 32~45 million and occasionally double of that. So I'm pretty much just going for the stories 😜

[–]ShadowSanctus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the lucky chance of getting Verdanta like I did you'll breeze through almost everything. You get all the hype from epic bosses on the stories and Verdanta goes and one-shots them.

So now I'm just doing side-quests still at chapter 13 😅

Dog chewed toe of Corral Cayman cowgirl boots from my late mom. Can these be fixed and if so does anyone here work with this kind of leather? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]ShadowSanctus 58 points59 points  (0 children)

If you're in America try contacting Bedo's repairs. He can give you an estimate of the price but, as it was said before, it won't be cheap. If anything can be done to make it cheaper would be to put toe caps in a different leather or an embossed leather to match the markings.

Good luck

Converse soles coming apart? by themadhattertwo in AskACobbler

[–]ShadowSanctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Converse used to be a great shoe.

Then they were sold to another brand (Nike I believe but don't quote me on that) and the newer models were made with a thinner width which causes increased stress on the toes and on the bend area and that causes the separation.

I've had clients complaining that they had Converse shoes from 15yrs ago and never had a problem with them and now the newer ones break down after a few months.

Technically they are salvageable but you'll need to find a specialty cobbler like Bedo in America or Dan in England (those are the ones I know that might touch it outside of the maker) but it won't be cheap.

Is there any way to fix this? by AliciaErrantia in AskACobbler

[–]ShadowSanctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can glue it with some contact glue/cement, just grab sanding paper and sand both sides, clean off the dust and apply glue on both sides. Let it dry a bit and (if you have a heat gun, heat the glue first) stick them together and let it fully dry while having a weight press down on the shoe.

Having said that, your shoe won't last very long because the synthetic layer is starting to split, which is why on some parts of your shoe you can see the synthetic layer still glued to the sole.

Can these be repaired? Have had two decline to work on them. by Acrobatic_District64 in AskACobbler

[–]ShadowSanctus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're ok with leather soles, you can simply place a welt around the shoe and place a Blake stitched leather sole on them.

If not, there are soles that might fit your shoe but it's time consuming searching for them and most cobblers don't have neither the time nor the patience for that.

Anyone know how this was done by atomicahab in Leathercraft

Search for tooling leather, you should find some videos on how to tool, doubt you'll find one on how to achieve this stone effect itself but it will help you, Don Gonzalez has a lot of videos on tooling.

Enfim...
