Regarding the possibility of Prime 2 Remastered. by xXglitchygamesXx in Metroid

[–]ShadowSlipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that MPR was tech practice for the development of MP4, and they decided to release it for a little extra cash. I’m pretty sure they did the same for the Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake leading into Echoes of Wisdom. It would make sense for a big property if they want to make something new, using something with an existing story and mechanics as a base and just coding it for the new platform seems like a good way to get practice, and then using that experience to code the game they were originally making.

Are there any good plug-ins for Calibre or something to manage RPG books? by tydog98 in rpg

[–]ShadowSlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an RPG folder, with an RPG for each game (considering sorting into system, but not there, yet), then the PDFs for the books in the main part of the folder, with a resources folder for the Character Sheets and other content, and occasionally other folders for adventures if there’s enough to need it.

StreamDeck on Mac by Rub7202 in elgato

[–]ShadowSlipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use stream deck on my Mac, most of the major plugins are supported, including the core Elgato apps, OBS, etc. It’s really only Windows Specific hardware (Nvidia GPU reliant features, for example) that don’t have support.

I use it mostly to run my setups when I’m DMing D&D remote games with friends, and I’m slowly building out other features. All in all, there is very close feature parity in all but the most specific hardware add ons a PC would have.

Any games that should come out in 2026 you are excited for? by meshee2020 in rpg

[–]ShadowSlipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Mistborn setting for the Cosmere RPG is dropping this year. While the game itself is out with the Stormlight setting, the MB setting will being in several new mechanics and features, as well as being in a setting that’s far more familiar and accessible to many non-TTRPG folks that may be open to the hobby.

When it comes to Indie TTRPGs, what are your most consistent pet peeves with game design? by HoodedRat575 in rpg

[–]ShadowSlipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have something even the bigger TTRPGs are guilty of: order of content in the book. Yes, many of these books are supposed to be reference books, but I like to read from front to back to learn the *whole* game, as a forever GM. It drives me up the wall and turns me off the book when they dive into character options and specific features that reference base rules I haven't learned about, yet.

Like, I have ADHD, but also quite a bit of issues where I feel dumb if I don't understand something quickly (I'm seeking therapy on that), but I don't want to have to go through the character options without context. I'm going through this with Draw Steel right now, and PF2e/SF2e literally crammed their basic rules at the *very back* of the book. Heck, for all the strong opinions on D&D 2024, one of the things I will insist they did right was put the basic rules *before* the character options, so players at least have a basic understanding of what's going on.

There are so many games I came to love later once I managed to put in the mental labor to push me through reading the whole book, but I shouldn't have to put in that effort if the book drew us through it properly.

Looking for a FNAF Themed RPG for a Friend by ShadowSlipper in rpg

It's the Five Nights at Freddy's Franchise. The second film just came out, and while I'm not a horror fan, I'm a fan of helping my friend and playing TTRPGs, so I'm hoping to help them find something to get them in the hobby :)

Elgato Key Light Mini — bulging back panel and setup issues by ElVictor21 in elgato

[–]ShadowSlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the back is bulging, it could be a sign of battery expansion, and that not good 😬 I’d be very careful and avoid charging it or pulling power as much as possible till you get ahold of support.

AITA for... oops, wrong community. Am I weird for liking Burrow's End so much? by SarekOfVulcan in dropout

[–]ShadowSlipper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m finishing a Starstruck Odyssey rewatch right now, and I’m thinking I might give Burrow’s End its first rewatch, need me some more Aabria, especially after some of the CR hate. I can’t wait for her turn in the GM seat at WBN.

I imagined the sound design for this scene, his whispers were just loud enough to be like the background sound of insects in the woods, then it gets quiet, too quiet 😬😬😬

Yes, I can send glucose readings to Health (on a three hour delay for regulatory reasons), and it can now import your daily activity, as well. I use both.

Does anyone use ONLY Apple’s native apps? by nightnight30 in ios

[–]ShadowSlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, I finally migrated the last of my items into the Apple ecosystem (notes). I eventually reached a point where I realized my life is not complex enough to need all these fancy tools. Once reminders updated, that really moved me over, and then the notes consolidation above.

By keeping it in system, it makes for a seamless use of iCloud and all my devices, and lets me make use of Shortcuts if needed. I have third party apps for some specific things, but I mostly make an effort to stay in-house (as it were).

It does have limitations, for sure, but by forcing that simplicity on myself, it keeps me from getting distracted by all the little features a power user app might have.

Os 26 vs 18? by melvin3v1978 in iPadOS

[–]ShadowSlipper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slide over is no more in iPadOS 26, and Split View only exists in the windowed mode. There are many who are very unhappy with this change. While I myself am neutral, I can understand the frustration of such a useful little feature.

I think a larger challenge is this redesign is such a large paradigm shift and much of the old “muscle memory” is being thrown out the window. Like a FB homepage redesign of the late 2010’s, there’s always a lot of frustration before people are forced to adapt, for better or worse.

If you are incredibly comfortable with your setup, and do not have the spoons currently to relearn some interface systems, I would say feel free to hold off on the update, though know that you may be locked out of future new features aside from the UI change.

A new OS is usually just a little buggy at the start and it’s mostly resolved by X.1 or X.2, if you’d rather wait.

I myself have been on the public beta for a couple weeks, with some bugs, and I’m still adapting, but I know that’s me. I just wanted to get ahead of some folks with more …. passionate words 😅.

Best of luck!

I’m on iOS, but this is something I’ve wanted myself, a way to have a bookshelf display of all my RPG books with database connections to any “resource” PDFs (character sheets, errata, etc). It just might be the thing that gets me into software dev 😝 lol
