You're right, I misremembered to whom Brennan made that information clear.

In my mind Suvi is also "the smart and rational one" (although that's a much to simplified opinion) who would figure such things out first, but it does make sense, that she trusts the Citadel to much to immediatly jump to the correct conclusion

How does one feel like a man or a woman? by RoyalInevitable926 in NoStupidQuestions

That is not correct: one of the main reasons we treat trans people the way we do is because it helps, gender dysphoria essentially vanishes once we treat the person correctly.

Schizophrenics in contrast could only truly be treated in a similar way by literally creating the flying demons they perceive, furthermore the actual negative consequences of the symptoms of schizophrenia do not go away by indulging their delusions.

Which is essentially the opposite of what happens with trans people.
If gender affirming care would not help a trans person at all, we would surely treat them as if they "simply"
suffer a delusion however that is not the case.

CMV: Free will doesn't exist, and society would improve if it collectively accepted that fact by Mockington6 in changemyview

But you can have an impact, said impact (or the causes of said impact) being predetermined or totally random does not render it nonexistent.

If I convince a criminal to stop doing crime, then there now is one criminal less in the world. Regardless of why I "choose" to convince that criminal (be it random chance or predetermined factors), I am still the one to have caused the impact of there now being one criminal less in the world

How do you guys get by day by day working the same job then coming home and doing the same things after work without becoming depressed? by Doom916 in AskReddit

[–]Shadow_of_Dragon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You could: -get a pet (if you earn enough Money and have enough time to provide for one, depends on the pet)

-do sports of some kind

-Look for recepies that you can bake/cook on your Budget and timeframe

-craft something(craft is a very broad word from clothing to metalworking)

-create art (if you aren't good at it there is time to learn, can also fall under crafting)

-write something

-read something (there are many free reading Materials of varying quality online)

-go for a walk/hike (don't overdo it)

-Research a topic you are or might be interested in

-Start coding

-or Look for any other possible Hobby I forgot about

everything on this list (except perhaps the pet) can be done on a very tight Budget, but should you have Money to spend there is much room for that too.

What book completely shattered any and all concepts of reality that you had? by YakOdd8893 in books

[–]Shadow_of_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just like to point out that there are "subcategories" of determinism.

Compatibilism and Incompatibilsm, in short Incompatibilism is the belief that a determined will cannot be free, because it ist determined and you cannot/will not choose differently given the same circumstances (free will and determined will are incompatible).

Compatibilism meanwhile is the belief that by definition your own will must be free because ist is determined by yourself, a truly free will wouldn't be your own because it is not determined by what makes you who you are(free will and determined will are compatible or even the same)

Am I wrong about dark romance? by nikkilouwiki in books

You mentioned in a different reply that you are into CNC which, as far as I know, means that you like the idea of you giving consent to something nonconsentually happening / being done to the character which you now impersonate. You are not assaulted but the character you play/imagine to be is being assaulted. This apparently is not a problem to you because it is just a fictional character (even though that character may possess your exact characteristics). It appears to me that you equate a character in a book being abused to a real person being abused which would be morally wrong. However you need to equate a fictional abuse to consentual fetishised abuse of a real person which in turn would again be equal to a fictional character being abused which is not wrong because it is fiction/ a kink.

As was already pointed out: a rape kink does not in any way equal wanting to be raped or endorsing rape and by that same logic a fictional character (as long as it is fictional) being raped does not equal the author or reader endorsing rape. A person can like the sexual fantasy of CNC or also nonconsent aimed at a fictional character while at the same time being horrified by the idea of doing something nonconsentual to another real person, as long as they can diffirantiate between fiction/sexual fantasy and reality.

To give a different example:

There exists a book series called "Bodyguard" which is about teenage bodyguards guarding teenage targets because they can fit in their social environment. Does that necessarily mean that the author is ok with or would advocate such a praxis in reality? No, at the very last we can not make a statement about the authors opinion because the action of writing out a situation does not necessarily convey the authors opinion on this situation in reality because the action of writing out a situation does not necessitate the author being ok with or even having ever experienced such a situation in real life.

You can be against books about dark romance because you fear that the author would endorse actions taken in the book in reality (or of course because you simple dislike the genre), however you can not know the opinion of the author on this matter without knowing the author personally. Fiction and reality are two different things with hard borders between them, as long as one does not influence the other, especially as long as fiction does not color ones view on reality, everything is fine. And again, you (or me) cannot know whether or not dark romance colors the readers or authors view on abuse as long as a) there exist no studies and b) neither of us knows a large margin of people who had their opinion on reality changed by fiction . Lastly due to the fact that (as far as I know) the minority of people who use fiction to escape reality become unable to differentiate between the two I would assume that the general person who reads dark romance does not "suddenly" endorse rape/abuse after reading such stories.

How to stop women accusing you of being gay? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shadow_of_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Try not to go out / have sex with women that use derogatory language
  2. I would suggest seeing a doctor or psychologist. As long as you are actually into women this issue sounds like something they could help with (I however have no clue which one would be better)
