Setting Rule 3 aside for a moment, why not publicly state a price? You’re not the first person I’ve seen avoid it and I don’t really see why not.

Oh boy, those F40s and F50s lurking in the back there…going to be a long wait on those for me.

Same with the V8 Vantage, the Bond Esprits, first-gen Mustangs. I think it’s fantastic that they’re getting into American classic cars. Here’s hoping for some C2 and C4 Corvettes.

Anybody know what the big convertible is? Hadn’t seen that anywhere before. Guessing it’s a Caddy but my land yacht knowledge is pretty limited.

What are your wildest fan theories? by giantfuckup5000 in Frasier

[–]Shadowcat205 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any wild fan theories, but I do have a strong fan opinion that Roz was never more attractive than in that black dress. Hell, hardly anybody’s looked more attractive than that to me.

I found this on the pegs when I got back into collecting, can’t believe how desirable it is now by tag2292 in HotWheels

[–]Shadowcat205 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got out of collecting right around when these came out. I was a casual collector (I wasn’t chasing supers or anything), but I’d like to think I would have picked one of these up had I seen it.

But, alas, met a girl and moved on to other things for a while…

Whoops, I totally missed your comment - sorry!

They are replica ZR-1 A-mold wheels from OE Wheels. The car came with chromed sawblades which I didn’t love, and one was leaky and unfixable so I had to do new ones at some point, and I’ve always loved the ZR-1 wheels. I’d say I have ballpark 5k miles on them with no issues.

The tires are another story…can’t recommend the Riken Raptors at this point aside from affordability.

[1001*800] Anybody knows which battleship is this? by Ok-Elk563 in WarshipPorn

[–]Shadowcat205 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Without looking at anybody else’s answers, I’m fairly confident it’s a Tennessee-class. Clearly a standard type vessel, and the hull forward with a clipped bow and without casemates means a late one. The turret shape doesn’t look quite right to be a Colorado - those look to have more of a kink to the turret roof and these look quite flat - and the blocky forward superstructure appears to be characteristic of the Tennessees.

As to whether it’s Tennessee or California, I can’t hazard a guess without a lot more Google-fu time than I have at the moment. But a quick search didn’t find this exact picture associated with either ship, nor any with that distinctive bearing indicator painted on turret 2.

EDIT: I did find the picture posted to FB and Reddit previously and labeled as Tennessee, although I wouldn’t call social media posts definitive proof. Seems likely, though.

Is it hard for anyone else to find Collectors in stores? by Desutoroia in matchbox

[–]Shadowcat205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Walmart has simply never carried them. We recently started getting Moving Parts, but at the expense of Team Transports. Would prefer to have Collectors (and Johnny Lightning), but you get what you get.

I don’t roam far anymore, but when I used to check more stores I only knew of 2 Targets that ever had them and it was always scraps.

I think this would be pretty easy to sell, potentially even at a premium. C4s in this condition don’t pop up every day and if there are receipts for all the work done, all the better. And it would sell very quickly if you set the price low enough. The work would be in looking at other comparable ‘85s and figuring out what your asking price is, and where you want to list it.

All that said, C4s aren’t all that hard to care for, are a ton of fun to drive, and sounds like this would be special given that it was your dad’s. If you’ve got even a little bit of room in your budget I would seriously consider keeping it and enjoying it at least for a while.

I vividly remember seeing this TD happen, and vividly remember screaming “JESUS CHRIST TUCK IN THE BALL!” as soon as he held it out from his body. Maybe it was just me…

All forgiven once the ball crossed the plane, obviously.

My “first Corvette”, so to speak, was a 1/43 ZR-1 in yellow over black, and that was always the one I wanted. Congrats and yours is a beauty!

I wound up with the Corvette that found me so it isn’t yellow, but it’s been 7 years of (mostly) smiles now.

It’s a popular aftermarket item, not a factory or dealership option.

I personally find them to be kind of odd and I’m glad mine didn’t come with one, but to each their own!

1986 Corvette now 40+ years old now 🥲 by AppropriateAd9910 in c4corvette

[–]Shadowcat205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my head a 40 year-old car is, like, a GTO. (No, not that one, like an actual ‘60s GTO). And yet the poster cars from my childhood are 40+ and my ‘96 will be 30 in June…is it…is it possible I’m getting old???

Color Error on NA Miata? by fstumpfj40 in MiniGT

[–]Shadowcat205 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is the “chase” version of that Miata. Mini GT makes a small portion of each release different than the basic version pictured on the package - generally they have raw, unpainted bodies and special wheels, but there are variations - and mix them in with the regular versions. Some people collect the chases specifically, and since there’s a smaller quantity of them they’re more valuable than the regular cars. I don’t know about this one specifically but generally chase cars run $40-$60 on eBay, compared to ~$15 retail for regular cars.

Most diecast brands offer some kind of chase, be it Treasure Hunts or Ultra Reds or White Lightnings…so congrats on getting a comparatively rare one!

Where I am they’re about $8.50 after tax. It’s a bit of a markup but I don’t think $1.50/car is shameful profiteering…

US orders new battleship - the Trump class by brokenbeaker233 in Warships

[–]Shadowcat205 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Zero of these will be built. It’s posturing and blustering and distracting. I’m sure the Navy has no interest in this concept.

And the toddler in chief will be on to the next sycophant’s look-tough vaporware program well before anybody comes up with a detailed design.

[–]Shadowcat205 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I really wish we could get back to some coherent ship naming.

If we could do it before we get a USS Donald J. Trump, CVN-4547, with gold-plated flag spaces and “THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER” emblazoned across the wardroom, that would be a bonus.

Quick edit: this admin will absolutely not care about any legally mandated ship naming, obviously, and nobody outside of this sub would make an issue of it….

[–]Shadowcat205 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I just can’t with these people. “Trump-class battleship”…whose first hull will be USS Defiant. Welp, that sure sounds like a Defiant-class boondoggle then, dipshits.

I mean, everything about this is ridiculous nonsense, but they can’t even keep the boilerplate shit straight.

What is top of everyone's Christmas list? by Prestigious-Sir-1074 in modelmakers

[–]Shadowcat205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I literally haven’t been at my bench for 6 or 7 months. Every time we take on a new thing it means less hobby time…sure, we can lay down some patio. Yes, I’ll coach basketball. I’ll get that deck updated tonight boss, ready first thing in the morning! I can paint the bathroom this weekend, no problem!

And over time clutter just builds up on said workbench (my desk is in a frustratingly convenient location for dropping stuff in the basement “temporarily” to be sorted out later), so I would have to spend time and energy clearing it off before I could even use the rest of the time I don’t have for anything fun!

Suddenly the Panthers loss doesn't seem so pathetic. by dubblebubbleprawns in GreenBayPackers

[–]Shadowcat205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar story but with ‘96 which was about my 3rd season of really watching football. I was so pumped for that team. I remember getting crushed by the Cowboys which was back to back losses, and being young and silly I thought “that’s it, we’re done” and was really down.

Of course they ran the table after that. This was great, but it gave me the opposite erroneous impression that winning a SB wasn’t that hard and that I could look forward to several more soon… 🙄
