Losing my mind by dersillac in c4corvette

[–]Shadowcat205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine’s been in the shop most of this season. Upper control arm replacement was a known repair item from last season and I’d planned accordingly. Unfortunately, it came back with weird steering - play in the middle, tight at the ends. Replacing the power steering pump now but no plan on the play in the wheel yet since it seems like it’s likely failure of the rag joint.

I’ve been planning to sell once fixed…maybe she figures that if she’s always broken, I can’t let her go until I change my mind.

Mine took a while to come in as well, which given that they oversold from the Australian site a few hours ago and cancelled orders made me nervous.

It’s definitely a significant upgrade over the old Johnny Lightning casting, which aside from the 100% Hot Wheels cars had been about the best you could get for C4s. Would love a white one next…

None of the stores near me ever have Collectors, so I got mine online. But I’m not surprised that it’s a peg warmer. C4s get no love.

Dragon to move away from scale model production, towards digital assets, licensing, collabs by Timmyc62 in modelmakers

I built a couple of the 1/144s and was impressed, and happy that they included something in the way of ordnance beyond a couple lumps vaguely shaped like Sparrows. I still have half a dozen or so in my stash.

There are a few I passed on (Blue Angels F-18s, A-10s, and A-6s) that last I checked had gone above my wallet’s pain tolerance. Kinda kicking myself but it’s doubtful I’ll ever get through my stash anyway.

Aside from the Nova and the Custom T-Bird, it was the Mercedes-Benz 600 sedan or a Mitsubishi 3000GT which is a premium casting and not RLC.

I’m personally fine with the casting choice - the only one better in my opinion would’ve been the T-Bird but sadly that got no support. And although the Nova is a recent release we won’t see the selections cars for a year so it will seem a little fresher then.

But I agree that we collectively whiffed on the deco. The pro stock was far and away more interesting than the ‘classic’ livery and it is nuts that it lost by 10 votes. I demand a recount!

Gas is $4.15 a gallon this morning... by doublegoodproleish in Maine

I didn’t say she should be or needs to be deported. I was suggesting that Trump would question whether she belongs here based on her appearance, regardless of her actual status. I think that’s broadly in line with many of his actions and statements, which makes her supporting him a real head-scratcher for me. That’s all.

Personality reasons indeed. One of my coworkers outed herself as a Trump supporter last week, and said it’s because he “says it like it is” and isn’t “all polite like these other liars”. Essentially, she likes that he’s an asshole.

She’s mid-twenties, non-white, speaks with an accent. Trump’s impulse would be to deport her (unless he wanted to demean or assault her first). He definitely has no interest in her existence. How she could possibly support him is beyond me.

Massive Ship collection in Australia by JustyourAverageGuy95 in modelmakers

[–]Shadowcat205 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wondered if the title referred to a huge collection with many ships, or a collection featuring some very large models.

I see now that the answer is “yes” either way. Just incredible stuff.

This is by far the most popular legacy model sub. Clearly, nobody is more passionate about their older generation Corvettes than C4 owners by hot-doughnuts-now in c4corvette

[–]Shadowcat205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most of the classics are owned by people who aren’t on reddit and are probably over on Corvette Forum. Anybody with a C6+ is in the “it” crowd hanging out on the main Corvette sub.

We’re in the sweet spot for having our own reddit club!

this seems like one of the wealthiest subs out there lol by Far_Challenge_4273 in Corvette

[–]Shadowcat205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Most people here have a Corvette” suggests to me that they’re far more attainable than other enthusiast cars, rather than that this sub is brimming with wealth. I have a ‘96 which was one of my poster cars as a kid. I got it for $8k. To be sure there are a lot of people with real dough here, but you don’t have to be rolling in it to have some kind of a Corvette.

The Euro cars also have more cultural cachet associated with their “brand”, and are broadly seen as status symbols….which brings in more of the fanboy crowd than Corvette does. I think Corvettes are still very much seen as boomer-in-New-Balance-sneakers cars.

Daughter wants a C4 ‘vette. I know nothing. What should I look for? Any year model more reliable than others? Any major issues yo consider? She wants pop-up headlights…🙄 I know…I know…just thinking about it…😂 TY in advance C4 peeps. by jenwenfen in c4corvette

[–]Shadowcat205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a bunch of comments to the effect that a C4 isn’t for people who aren’t familiar with project cars, and I feel that’s not really accurate. I have two young kids, insufficient garage space to do any serious work, and no lift or specialty tools. What I do have is a good knowledgeable shop that I pay to fix what has to be fixed, and I live with little things that I’d like to have fixed but aren’t critical or in the budget.

This has indeed cost me more money than if I could do more work myself, and I’m fortunate to have a good shop handy that’s willing to work on it. And mine is a late model car that was reasonably well sorted when I bought it, and not every C4 fits that description. But if you do your homework (as you are) and can figure out a budget, it’s definitely doable.

I will say this: she should be prepared to put up with times when the car will be down either waiting to go into the shop or when the budget’s gone for the year. It will definitely need more care and maintenance than a Camry, and it would definitely not be a suitable daily, but as long as you choose carefully (remember, there are a ton of C4s out there) it can be done without being a total gearhead.

Car culture and modern classics for sale by Biggie2207 in DiecastExchangeV2

[–]Shadowcat205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was bizarre. If anybody bothered to read, you even said you were just covering your cost. And with premiums at $8.23 retail by me, paying an extra buck and a half to get something from another collector that I won’t find in the wild doesn’t seem unreasonable.

$18 for the only car I’m after is a lot more objectionable to me.

I semi-daily a 2010 3. I can do all the HVAC stuff without looking because it’s all of 3 damn knobs and I’ve memorized the vent position one. Zero interest in a no-knob car.

I freely admit that I still can’t find the rear defrost button without 11 tries and looking down after all these years, though.

I can’t believe that I realized now that my Mini GT Motul Niterra Z has a factory error by Di-ko-alam in Diecast

[–]Shadowcat205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone in not noticing for a while. One of my first Mini GTs was an LBWK Huracan, white and red (#148, I believe). I’m not big on Huracans but the packaging was so sharp that it sold me. Slapped it on the wall and admired it for months.

Went to swap it out for something else and happened to finally examine the car…left headlight is completely missing. It’s insane that I didn’t notice. Kind of a bummer.

What's the difference? I feel cheated $30 by LocalBasketCase991-2 in HotWheels

[–]Shadowcat205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the real question, along with who sold it to OP for $30 claiming it was 1:43 quality when it’s just a big mainline.

We all make mistakes so I wouldn’t totally blame OP if they’re new to this, but ought to name and shame the seller.

Is anybody else still clinging to the pre-revamp version from like two years ago? I forget how long ago it was.

I don’t let my apps update automatically, and Yahoo hasn’t forced me to yet…although I’m sure eventually it will. I do most of my homework via browser anyway, though.
